Contents Cover CHAPTER ONE My Success and Failures CHAPTER TWO Bring Value CHAPTER THREE Monetize CHAPTER FOUR Outro Cover If you have any questions about this ebook, or there were any gold nuggets you got from this, please leave an honest review on Amazon, I LOVE feedback :) I own a Youtube channel “Practical Psychology”: youtube.com/practicalpsychologytips Sign up to my mailing list (giveaways, favorite videos, and most valuable stuff I have to offer) at practicalpie.com Copyedited by: Nicholas Hartunian Copyright 2017 Practical Psychology CHAPTER ONE My Success and Failures Intro The next couple headlines will be my backstory of how I started, and currently own a Youtube channel with over 700,000 subscribers and has earned me an average of $5,000 a month in under a year You need my backstory to understand the knowledge that is required to start, and then the second part of the book will be teaching YOU how YOU can it! I own many passive income streams, but this is by far the method with the best return I want to keep it as practical as possible, so if you want to get to the nitty gritty data and tutorial part, skip over this background, into the “Bring Value” chapters My First paycheck So, I first discovered Hubpages.com when I was in early High School I remember staying up late writing an article a day, for about two or three months Growth was addicting Seeing my numbers rise from to 10 to 100 to 500 was soooooo much fun I did it for the views, but the experience I gained was invaluable I was basically teaching myself how to reverse-engineer the search engines to gather views, and in turn money I taught myself SEO by having fun trying to get more pageviews, you could say Hubpages was a place where you could write articles, and get paid for advertiser views on your articles I wrote topics like “100 funniest tweets”, “Best guard dogs”, and other easy-to-create articles that I knew people searched for For me, it was super easy to read this 5000 word article and regurgitate it into something that was what a searcher was ACTUALLY looking for It took a while, but I hit the $100 paycheck I was pumped Anyways, I was banned on Hubpages eventually due to the age requirement (yeah, stupid move, but it was a stepping stone), and I am telling you this to give you an idea of how much work it is to actually make money online It’s not an overnight thing The information in this book has taken me years to learn I wish I could’ve read this book when I started Reading this ebook will at least give you a jumpstart Laser website After the Hubpages encounter, I decided to start my own website and try again with Google Adsense I think the website was titled lasersarefun.com This website was literally scripted entirely by me using HTML from scratch This was probably 2014, and I wrote most of the scripts and articles, since I was interested in learning about lasers, and had the basic knowledge I earned a measly average $4 per month with Adsense, and decided to bump up my content, so I paid somewhere around $100 for another 10 articles to be added to the website I was in like $200 total for the website and earning an average of $10 a month Note that the upkeep fee was around $10, so I was basically breaking even For passive income, 5% return/month is a pretty good investment Imagine investing $100,000 and earning $5,000/month with little to no upkeep Traffic was coming in pretty nicely, and anything over 1500 visitors per month was amazing to me at the time I sold the website to some guy a couple months later for exactly $200 and he’s redesigned the whole website It was super encouraging to have that $200 Paypal payment Wordpress After the laser website, I kept reading more and more about how to build a successful niche website and I started getridofmosquitobites.com For this website, I bought most of the content for under $200 and spent my free time setting up the the images and formatting everything I kept it dormant and paid the $8 hosting fee for around half a year and then checked in on it It was also earning around $10 per month; profiting me $2 per month The summer hits and traffic spikes, some guy contacts me about buying it and pays me $350 Paypal to transfer the website This was my first encounter of a profitable passive income website, AND selling it for a profit I’ve set up a couple more niche websites and they earn enough to pay for a week’s worth of steak each month In the monetizing section of this book, we will go in-depth into how to setup a Wordpress site for both niche and authority sites Authority Website Now I’m managing a larger authority website (won’t mention for security reasons) that has around 100,000 words with 60 posts An authority website is one that isn’t just one super-selected niche, but covers many topics about the subject Most authority websites are built with 50+ pages of content and have tons of great backlinks Within a couple months, this website started earning $50/month This may not seem like much, but it was definitely a game changer early on I’ll teach you the methods I used later in this book, but let’s talk about my first profitable Youtube channel So notice how I said “first profitable” channel? That’s because just like it took many tries to get a great foundation for a website to earn money, I failed many times setting up Youtube channels Passive income is worth it, but 99.9% you have to put in a ton of work The upside is that in the end you ENJOY the work you put in This channel has earned me $60 per month without ANY maintenance work, and still is I spent probably a month (2 hours a day), setting up the channel and adding videos I would outsource topics like “How to get rid of mosquito bites”, “How to get rid of stomach fat”, and “How to clean out a dirty garden”, buy the scripts, narrate, and put together a sloppy video with a couple of copyright-free Google images The key was in my SEO skills that I garnered Most of the videos I made are still on the top search results of Youtube Great titles, tags, and thumbnails were used and allowed me to set up that profit stream It was the SEO training I gave myself that allowed this channel to succeed Scaling Youtube Then I started Practical Psychology First, I was watching “Fight Mediocrity”, but noticed he was only uploading once every couple weeks I had an idea, one simple idea, that I could exactly what he was doing, only I could it a bit better He gave me motivation when he showed he made $3000 a month That’s how you make money online; find someone who is doing it, and it better So I started putting in the hard work, the first months I didn’t even cross a couple hundred dollars Coming home from my 50-hour-week summer job and spending another 3-4 hours per day was exhausting, but I loved working on this I was literally spending ALL of my free time reading books and reviewing them My initial content was just animated book reviews Then the J curve started, and the views and subscribers started pouring in I’ll explain my algorithm hacks later in this book :) Around months I earned ~$2000 and quit my part time job The next couple months I earned a lot of money, enough to outsource most of my scripts and animation process I eventually decided to quit college as well Business school was preparing me for a job, but I made myself a job January was a big month, where I earned $15,000 in one month, and for a 20 year old; it’s worth taking that risk dropping out of college Now I’m earning at least $5000/month and only spending the time on the business doing what I WANT to do, what I love doing; teaching people and narrating I’ve learned a ton in the past year alone, about affiliate marketing, sponsorships, ad revenue, and just monetizing the value you bring and I’m going to spend the rest of this text teaching you how to it There are going to be two major steps in this: Bring Value, and Monetize I want to keep it simple, because you’re reading for the first, and it’s my job to deliver as much value as possible CHAPTER TWO Bring Value Passive Income I’m going to start this chapter by explaining what I mean by passive income I mean income that you can spend a LOT of time and/or money to set up, but requires VERY LOW upkeep That way you can essentially spend your time, energy, money now to buy you freedom in the future To use those websites for example, it took a ton of original work to set them up, each one getting better, earning more, and being easier to set up Another example is the first profitable Youtube channel I set up I have done literally nothing to it for almost a year and made consistently $60/month It took me probably 60 hours to set that up What if you set two of these up a month in your spare time? Everybody’s got 20-30 extra hours a week they spend lounging Well, most people can find the time, especially if they’re learning about passive income Adding $120/month income each month, and by the end of the year, in theory, you’d be up to $1440/month with NO MAINTENANCE WORK Scaling passive income can be difficult though, you’ll have to use your imagination So before we go setting up an automated system to generate us money, we’re going to need to give value first It’s how the world works If you don’t give enough value, you’re going to be scamming someone, people will find out, and your scheme will eventually fail First we have to add value If you’ve been in Tai Lopez’s 67 steps, you know one of his most important ideas is to be worth something If you’ve read Think and Grow Rich, then you also know adding value is the most important tip in growing wealth Note that it’s easiest to add value if you’re passionate about something Evergreen Content For most of the book, we are going to be referencing Evergreen content, which is content that is likely to be usable for a long time For example, “How to tie a shoe” is evergreen, while “Superbowl 30 best plays in 2003” is not One will create passive income, and the other will give you a burst of money (if you’re super lucky) and then die out I call the first evergreen content, and the second Skyscraper Let’s get onto how we can add sweet, sweet value on the Internet Remember to this by entertaining someone, or by informing them Delivering value is the first step Remember that on the Internet, how you deliver your value is also important If you deliver information about “how to detail a car” it may be more useful to create a video, than it would to be try to explain the process in text format, and images would be in the middle There’s value in creating that video, if nobody has done it before Free information One of the best, most popular, and easiest-to-setup ways to add value is to offer free information through something like a blog or authority website Information is starting to become one of the most valuable commodities in today’s fast changing world, and if you can offer new, easily-digestible information or knowledge to someone, you’ll definitely earn their respect A large portion of the monetized content on the web is in text format This is because for the past 20 year, search engines have specialized in algorithmically analyzing text pages and sorting them for users Creating content in text format also has a super low startup cost Wordpress websites are very easy to set up, and you can start one for under $15 How to set up Wordpress I told you how I manually scripted the HTML for my entire first site Well, this is a practical guide, and that's not practical Let's talk about a tool called Wordpress It's free I know what you're thinking: nothing that good is ever free So yes, I have to say there are many premium services out there for Wordpress, but the core platform, what hundreds of companies use, is totally free Oh, and by the way, Google "free Wordpress themes." There are virtually thousands for you to experiment with Installing themes, using the same technology corporate companies do, is easier than you think You don't even have to install any software It's all on the Internet and writing posts is as simple as using Microsoft Word Ahh, but you want to more than write posts You might want contact forms and social networking links, subscription sign-ups and image galleries Wordpress has plugins that allow all of the above with a push of a button Want to literally start a social network? You can that with plugins By now, you can probably imagine why small sites are using Wordpress, but larger ones haven't been able to resist it either I'm talking about Mozilla, CNN, eBay, Reuters, Google Ventures, and more But what about people using your site on the go? You better believe these big companies are going to make sure people can access their sites on mobile devices like tablets and smartphones - that the sites will be "responsive" and still work on those devices Normally, you would pay thousands of dollars for a developer to make your site responsive That cost is non-existent here A big thing for me when I setup the authority website was picking a responsive theme And, if you haven't realized by now, I completely use Wordpress Whenever I personally need help with the platform, it's easy for me to find free support from bloggers, theme developers, webmasters, YouTube tutorials, forums (the list goes on) If I can’t find help, I’m probably doing something that isn’t recommended So you’re going to need two things for your website The first is a host In technical terms, buying a host is paying a company for server space that is dedicated to sending the files for your website out to any computer that sends an HTTP request for it In less than technical terms, think of the host like the host of a party Your website is the party The host manages the space the party is held in and keeps the door open for anyone who wants to join Otherwise, it’s like you have this great idea for a party, but it’s not actually taking place anywhere The second thing you need is a domain This is the web address people type into the URL bars of their browsers to go to your website For example: testtesttest.com If your website is the party, this is the address where it’s happening at You have to reserve this address and give it out, so people know how to get there The WordPress platform is free, but the host and domain will cost around $3 – $10 a month (keeping a party going 24 hours a day for 30 days… someone’s got to get paid) Also, having your own domain name looks way more professional than having your website on somebody else’s domain (like yourbusiness.weebly.com), and it’s inexpensive too Plus, paying for a good host means your website will load quickly and won’t randomly go down for hours Of course, this is important because someone might think your site is dead if they come at a bad time, but it’s also critical because load times are analyzed in search engine results Basically, you’ll come up lower on the page or not even on the first page when someone Googles you if you’re loading slowly Where can you get a hosting and a domain name? GoDaddy, Hostgator, and Bluehost are great places to start Bluehost hosting is very inexpensive at an average of around $8/month They also give you a FREE domain name (an epic perk, since they’re normally $15) The downside is you have to pay for a year minimum Or try other hosts that have reasonable prices Just watch out for a company trying to hit you with payments for 6-12 months minimum You can cancel anytime with 1&1.com I registered my first two sites with them for only $6/month Which type of domain name should you pick? If you are developing your website for a business then your domain name should definitely match your business name (yourbusinessname.com) If you want to develop your website for yourself or for blogging purposes then you should use your name or the name of your blogging category For example, if I were a fisherman named Jeff Jupiter, I might want jeff.jupiter.com or epicfishingstories.com Most domain names end with “.org,” “.com,” or “.net,” but nowadays, it’s become a bit of a wild west What I mean is, now we have “.pizza” and “.ninja.” Personally, I would avoid the wacky ones, unless they perfectly describe what you have to offer If you’re a ninja, then “.ninja” is fine More likely, if you’re an agency, then maybe go with “.agency.” Otherwise, it’s generally best to stick with what people are familiar with: “.com,” “.net,” or “.org.” Here are some more tips for choosing your domain name: Is it brandable? For example, if you are making a website about music, then best-musicwebsite.net is not a good choice That’s not a brand name That’s just a boring generic claim you’re the best Musicacademy.com is something you can name a company or product after It’s brandable I tried practicalpsychology.com, but it was taken Is it memorable? If your domain name is lengthy, then probably not Keep it short I tried practicalpsychologytips.com, but it was too long and not memorable Is it catchy? It’s a powerful strategic move if your domain rolls of the tongue or gives a simple description of your business Let’s put this into perspective. There are more than 150 million active domain names You might have some trouble coming up with a cool name – but don’t give up I tried practicalpie.com, and it stuck! I’m focusing on my Youtube video quality at the moment, but will be updating this website within a couple months Ok, so now you have an epic name all polished up and reserved just for you on the internet Let’s get back to Wordpress, so you can actually put something at that address There are two ways to install Wordpress One Click Installation: So you’ve paid for a host, and they’re probably giving you some sort of CPanel to log into and manage your website with Almost every single one will have a Wordpress “1-clickinstallation” button that will make getting started with Wordpress as easy as “one-click” sounds Just look for the “WordPress” or “Website” icon, select your domain name, and click “Install Now.” Details about logging into your new site will be sent to your email Manual Install (if needed) If your hosting company doesn’t provide 1-click install, or if you’re some sort of wizard who wants to install Wordpress by-hand then check out this tutorial: https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress However, note that if you don’t have a 1-click install option, you may be dealing with a sketchy or unreliable hosting company Now go ahead, and select a theme for your website The default one is pretty basic, so you should choose something more unique There are thousands out there I suggest searching “Free Responsive Wordpress Themes,” but here’s an even easier technique: Log into your WordPress backend (dashboard) If you don’t know how to login yet, type into your URL bar: http://yoursite.com/wp-admin (replace “yoursite” with your domain) Everything is easily visible on this awesome dashboard Don’t worry if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed right now - navigating the dashboard will soon become second nature 2.Find free themes Now that you’re logged in, you have access to more than 1500 free themes! Just look for the “Appearance” tab in the sidebar, and click on “Themes.” If you’re looking for more professional or well-designed themes then you can find it in this gallery, or you can go to ThemeForest.net It provides a HUGE library of themes at varying pricing But still, most free themes are actually very professional and well-made, so don’t write them off If you want to search for a specific theme, you can search for keywords or use filters to find ones that suit your business Themes are how your users will initially see your website, so it’s worth putting some time into picking one Install your new theme Now you have an epic theme and want to install it It’s as simple as clicking “Install” followed by “Activate.” How you add new content or pages? We’re at the point where your theme is installed, and you’re ready to start creating content Let’s run through some basics: Adding and editing pages Want a page specifically for a certain type of content? Look at the sidebar in the WordPress Dashboard, and hover the mouse onto “Pages” -> “Add New.” Click that, and you’ll find a new page on the screen where you can add text, images, and other features Don’t forget to save occasionally What is a plugin? “Plugins” are extensions that are developed to increase WordPress’s capabilities, adding more options and functions to your website that don’t already come built-in You can use plugins to everything from adding submission forms and photo galleries to optimizing your site performance or making an online store How you install a new plugin? Just go to “Plugins -> Add New,” and start browsing Keep in your mind that there are over 30,000 different FREE plugins. You have plenty of options for building out your site Installation is very easy – once you find a plugin you want, just click “Install.” Some plugins I recommend: Contact Form Yoast SEO Google Analytics W3 Total Cache BackupBuddy Free videos Videos are an amazing way to convey information, whether to entertain someone vlog-style, or to teach them in tutorial style Now, they take more effort to set up, but the return is worth it You get a consumer’s attention My most favorite way to offer this is through Youtube For the next part, I’ll be giving you my BEST tips on starting a Youtube channel, although it is important to note that there are many other video platforms, and videos on Facebook and Instagram are currently gaining popularity Youtube channels are super easy to set up, but the most important tip is to remember to keep a creative, intriguing name and logo If you have to, pay someone else to make you a logo, because this is super important aspect of your content I not recommending starting by uploading your face as a profile picture I recommend something that viewers will associate with a brand I would, however, recommend upload an image of your face if your vision to create a personal brand and grow your own name’s brand value We will discuss some tips and tricks on how to massively grow your Youtube channel later, but in the beginning, you’ll want to brush up on your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) skills Also, in the beginning, you want to post as much content as possible Since you don’t have very many subscribers, posting every day won’t annoy anyone, but it will be planting tons of seeds that will harvest you subscribers in the future Youtube Let’s cut to the chase I want you to consume this material as quickly as possible so you can start creating a secondary income through Youtube I’m not going to be covering the tutorial of how to set up an Adsense account or Youtube Channel, but I will be teaching you the strategies and skills I’ve used to get over 500,000 subscribers and 17 million views in under a year I’m going to show you my Youtube Algorithm hacks Used in the right manner, and if you follow this guide correctly, you could end up with a video in “Recommended” for over 24 hours, gathering you plenty of publicity for your channel! I’ve done it multiple times, and I’m going to teach you what I’ve learned I started the channel because I loved FightMediocrity’s video, but noticed he wasn’t uploading enough to feed his hungry subscribers I knew I could it better I knew I could offer more value This is the best way to start a new channel Find a hole in the market Something that’s not saturated, and is easy to produce videos This is the best way to start a profitable Youtube channel, or any business for that matter The title is probably the most important metadata when it comes to a video Titles get ranked in search engines, not thumbnails, which means your first viewers will find your video this way, how intriguing you come up with a title I make my titles in parts The first part is something that invokes curiosity, basically relevant clickbait So the term clickbait has a negative connotation, but in this book, it’s going to mean an idea, image, or concept that make someone go “Hmmm, that’s interesting, let’s click and watch to find out more” It’s legal and Youtube accepts it as long as it’s not misleading The second part is a highly used search term Combine them to get something like this: “10 Psychological tricks to get her to like you - how to get a girlfriend” Notice how the first part invokes your curiosity? And the second part is something a lot of people search for This ensures short and long term growth I’ve noticed titles with numbers better than those without Also, videos with high click-through rates are more likely to become “Recommended” “Recommended” is what will get you TONS of views and, in turn, money! The thumbnail is right next to the title, it is the first thing people usually see Make sure it’s completely relevant to the video Clickbait works, so be creative Clickbait is anything that intrigues the audience The key is to, again, invoke curiosity, yet establish credibility Check out this thumbnail, the video garnered over 2,000,000 views in a week (because it had a high click through rate, high video retention, and introduced my viewers to a new channel, so it got recommended ,which I’ll talk about later) It shows the girl, which makes viewers super curious, and it shows “The Ford Method” in bright green which makes people think “wow, there must be some actual nuggets of knowledge in here I could use” Thumbnails with faces better than those without, this is a psychological aspect, and generally faces that show strong emotion work best Don’t try to use more than words in a thumbnail otherwise it’ll be hard to see when compressed Tags are important for getting ranked in search engines Keep them relevant, and use what people search for Try to stick to long tail keywords (over 2-3 words) Youtubers fail over and over again because they just fill it with traditional tags Fill it with keywords people search for! Here’s a great example: How to get a girl to like you,get a girl to like you,how to attract a girl, how to get a girl, how to make a girl like you,how to make her like you,how to get her to like you,how to get a girlfriend, make a girl like you, psychological tricks, psychological attraction trick, does she like me,how to make her want you, practical psychology, how to seduce her, dating advice for men, persuade her to like you, dating, make your crush like you, boyfriend, girlfriend To find great keywords, Google your main keyword, then scroll down to the bottom and look at the suggestions To find high ranking keywords, look up Google Adwords Keyword Tool and sort by volume Don’t forget to fill up all 500 characters of the tags for best results! Descriptions This is still a bit of a mystery to me, so I’m just going to give tips on what I use Fill the first sentence with your main keyword, and your second sentence with supporting keywords that people search for Get creative with it, but don’t keyword stuff Here’s an example: How to get motivated using some psychological tricks and being self-aware to use your passions to drive you Tai Lopez has mentioned that there are four main M’s of motivation: Money, Mating, Mastery, and Momentum Another thing I would like to add is that you need to develop self awareness to know which one of these motivates you, and then not judge yourself If what motivates you to lift weights is the increased attention from girls, then so be it If we can't rely on motivation to carry us through, then we need something else And that something else is discipline Conviction is also a huge psychological motivator, and you need to understand that this type of motivation is push-driven It is the opposite of fear and can help you achieve great things in your life Type 4-5 more sentences describing your video I recommended placing a part of your script in the video to lengthen it Include 2-3 links, this seems to help, if you include the same links on all of your videos, it helps your own channel’s videos get in the related tab I find that uploading every 3-4 days is best, as the Youtube algorithm loves this, and so people I found no significance boost uploading less than once a week I found no boost uploading two videos in a row, actually the second video uploaded did worse on multiple trials Also uploaded daily for a week and noticed no boost other than the active subscribers watching new videos Weekdays between 8AM-Noon Central time seems to be best for me, but you’ll have to experiment with your niche Try to keep videos over minutes long minutes is currently the sweet spot Keep stuff moving on the screen to keep attention longer This is why gaming videos and makeup tutorials well, constant attention changes It’s also why my animated videos, and other animation channels are on the rise Youtube values watch time way more than it used to, so stuff that keeps your viewer watching, or, as I will mention in a future tip, show them other channels I highly recommend commenting on other channels related to yours when under 2000 subscribers as this will give you a decent boost for your work After 2000, you see diminished returns and putting your time into videos becomes worth it Collaborations on your channel, when you introduce a new Youtuber to your audience is great I’ve had great success with this, and probably why I’ve grown so much, most of my videos in October, November, and December 2016 are collabs If your viewers binge watch their videos, you’ll get points in the algorithm for introducing them and your video will be ranked higher Youtube wants people to spend more time on their site, if you show them a channel they binge watch, you get the reward with more views Collaborating to be featured on another channel is a great way to boost initial subscribers as well I collabed with Evan Carmichael (350,000 subscribers at the time) early on and got quite a boost Note that this is where hustling comes in, you might have to make a video for free, or tons of videos for free to get noticed I made the video for his channel for free, and he requested 4-5 changes in the video before he finally published it Reply to comments on your videos! It adds more comments, increasing engagement ratio, and give you lifelong viewers who feel appreciated For the long term, it also gives you feedback to improve your video style You will have trolls, don’t reply to them, I have tons on my relationship videos Upload videos that are informative or entertaining This must be your purpose, combined with your passion, otherwise you’ll give up early If they solve a problem, you’ll make money Only ask for 1-2 engagements at the end of the video Like + subscribe best Ask for a controversial comment at the beginning so they can type while they listen HUSTLE! Don’t be afraid to ask for collaborations or make free videos in the beginning Free Images One of the best ways to offer value through images is through Facebook and Instagram, and in the next couple pages, I’ll explain how to set up these accounts and the best methods to promote them Facebook Time to make a Facebook page for your business Bare with me if this seems like a technical guide, but I promise I threw in some unlikely tips I learned doing this professionally #1 Log into your Facebook, or create one You’re going to need a Facebook account to create a page for your business It’s free #2 Click on the create page icon This icon is on the left-hand side of the screen On the drop-down menu, click the “Local Business or Place” button You can also choose “Public Figure” or “Community” if you don’t have a business address #3 Choose the right category for your page Fill out the forms, and make sure your business info is simple and easy to remember Click “Get Started” when you’re done #4 Fill the “About Me” section Finally! Now things are starting to get interesting Fill in some categories depending on your industry Facebook will automatically give you suggestions Then you’ll be asked to talk about your business or yourself if you clicked “public figure” Here’s a trick for you public figures: talk about your brand instead Now it’s time to enter the website and URL for the Facebook page This is where you link back to your normal site and come up with a memorable URL for the page you just created on Facebook #5 Upload the profile photo In this section, you can choose to upload your headshot BUT, you may also want to upload a logo or a team photo I would recommend using a good logo, as this is what most people use to decide to like a page second to the page name #6 Set your Facebook page to “Favorites.” Just click the “Add to Favorites” icon This will keep a link to the page at the top of your Facebook account’s sidebar, making it much easier to get to #7 Choose your page audience Enter your “Central Services” area (where your company mainly operates) like Austin, TX, etc You should leave the page audience open to all genders and those 18 to 65 years old This will come in handy if you decide to boost posts in the future #8 Add a cover photo You can add a cover photo by clicking the “Add a Cover” icon Make it professional, and don’t something silly like violate copyright laws Cover photos should look great and professional Please this #9 Add a call-to-action for your page Click on the “+Add a Button” icon Then create a “Contact Us” button, and add a phone number option This lets people call you directly from the mobile Facebook app You can also add a link to your website if you want to send people there #10 Edit your details This is done by clicking the “About” button on the left-hand side of your page Then click “Edit Page Info” on the right-hand side of the Facebook Page This will let you add more information that you couldn’t add during the initial setup All your details should be 100 percent accurate Definitely spice it up with some SEO, but don’t keyword stuff Oh and don’t forget to add your hours of business if you’re not 24/7 If someone shows up at your pastry shop at am demanding cupcakes, that’s on you and you could have a bad review #11 Fine-tune your settings This is the most important step On the upper corner of the page, click on “Settings.” Sort through all the options, and confirm that your page can accept reviews Later, you can start racking up positive comments and showing off how popular you are! Also, your Facebook page should accept private messages Not only can you engage people directly, but it gives you opportunities to defuse any issues before unhappy customers start posting publicly #12 Like your page This is the most basic part of setting up a Facebook page “Like” your page via your personal profile This is the first step to jump-starting it with the support of your friends and other local Facebookers Now some more tactics! Share posts on your Facebook business page: Good posts on Facebook will engage your audience Consider uploading posts, photos, and videos that ask questions Usually, photos are better than pure text and add tons of value, although videos are gaining traffic with new mobile updates Here are some tips for successful posts: Do not over-post Ideally, 2-3 posts per week are fine, but some niches will well with 2-3 posts per day Also, you should not post anything that might bother your customers like personal feelings about politics or religion (unless you know all your viewers agree) Remember, the content that you create will be the largest factor for your page’s growth rate, so make sure it’s relevant and adds value to your audience Bonus points if the stuff you post is sharable Ask fans on other social media platforms to follow your Facebook page: Don’t be shy! Ask your followers on other sites to like your Facebook Reach out to your LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter audiences Cross-promoting is always recommended… as long as it’s with relevant places Let them know that you have good content on your Facebook page Give out your Facebook URL on Twitter Link your Facebook to your Instagram description for more traffic And link your LinkedIn profile to your Facebook profile to share Facebook posts with your LinkedIn audience Request that your friends on Facebook like your page : This is the single most effective tip to grow a Facebook page in the beginning Once you have posted content on your page, you should invite friends to check it out by clicking the “More” button On the drop-down menu that pops up, click on “Invite Friends.” You can invite all your friends on Facebook, but don’t be surprised if only some of them like it No one is forced to like anything - they just get a notification that they might want to view it Use pop-ups to requests likes: You should consider using pop-ups on your website instead of emails to request likes Using popups on your website is the perfect way to increase the audience of your Facebook page When readers are about to leave your site, a pop-up will appear, and tell them to like your Facebook page for exclusive content If the readers like your work, they will also like your Facebook page P.S This doesn’t work if you don’t have high-quality content Keep your page updated: This will help your audience know that you’re still alive If your page is not current, someone might think that you’ve gone out of business Log into your account at least once a week to check for notifications and (fingers crossed) connect with new clients Boost: This method is what I’ve been using recently to get targeted users Basically, after you have posted over 10 images, boost each one for $5, and see which one gets the most shares/comments/likes/clicks Then, boost that one for more money $100 can go a long way on Facebook targeted ads There are tons of small growth hacks to boost your Facebook audience, and I might write another eBook on just that topic But for now, I want to experiment more on my own and gather data first This eBook is about passive income, and I’m devoting these sections to gathering a following for your business My best tip so far is to boost the posts that better than others If something gets 100 likes, and most of your posts only get 50, then boost it For $5, $50, or whatever you feel comfortable with spending, it will work great I recommend your start low though Instagram Instagram is one of the most popular social media tools available to marketers By 2016, there were over 350 million active monthly users with over 30% of them coming from the United States Estimates say that the foreign user-base will grow to about 110 million by 2019 This means marketers can use Instagram to access the global market This means money Studies also tell us that Instagram has a high following engagement rate compared to Facebook and Twitter In fact, most marketers spend up to 40% of their time on Instagram instead of on other social platforms Setting up an Instagram Account: Instagram is a mobile app available for Windows Phone, iOS, and Android devices The app allows users to share photos and videos from the mobile app But you probably already knew all that Anyway, follow these steps to get set up with an account #1 Download the application from App Store for iOS, Google Play Store for Android, or Windows Phone Store for Windows Phones #2 Once the app is installed, open it, and sign up #3 You can either sign up with your email address or Facebook account #4 If you sign up with email, create a catchy username and password, and fill out the profile information Or, if you choose to sign up with Facebook, there will be a prompt to login to your Facebook account (unless you’re already logged in) You can also go to Instagram.com to create your account by entering your email and creating a username-password combo And… you guessed it! You can use Facebook to sign up there too As of right now though, you can only post images by using your smartphone Even if you use a third party like hootsuite.com (recommended) to automate your posts, they will be sent through your phone The Best ways to grow your Instagram account: Post Consistently: Studies show that an average Instagram user posts once a day But popular accounts with professional budgets post between to photos a day A higher posting frequency leads to more popularity Instagram uses an algorithm that enables consistent content to appear at the top of the timeline (at the time of this writing) If you share your posts on a regular basis, the content is consistent (each photo is related to each other - don’t go randomly posting selfies from Disney World and then food from a local restaurant), and the content gets good engagement (likes/comments), then your posts will appear near the top of your followers’ feeds, and maybe even in the explore tab Use quality hashtags: Hashtags are very important on Instagram The best hashtags should expose your image to a large number of targeted audiences Note that Instagram users not seem to get hashtag fatigue like most other networks They don’t get overwhelmed when you add dozens of them to a photo This means that hashtags can be the best way of growing your Instagram Instagram allows a maximum of 30 hashtags per post Capitalize on it! It can be hard to find the right hashtag for your post Start with a couple of relevant and obvious hashtags on your photo Post it Then click to search for similar hashtags, and scroll through to see what hashtags other photos used This will give you plenty of ideas for relevant hashtags Edit your photo, and add your new discoveries! Share user-generated content: Embracing and sharing user generated content plays a critical role in growing your Instagram The hashtags open you up for a huge amount of content from users who come up with different stories If they respond to your post, share their content with other users, and include the hashtag You can also find images that other users have tagged you in, and repost them Request that your followers on other platforms follow you on Instagram: If you have followers on Twitter, Facebook, or a blog, then you can ask them to follow you on Instagram Cross-post! Cross-promote! Cross-pollinate! Maybe only the last one if you’re a bee Encourage your followers to a few things: Studies clearly show that people are more likely to take action when they are asked to it, and this has been proven over and over and over again in marketing, especially when you provide value first Now, I know that sounds obvious, but some people still don’t things like share a photo, and ask their followers to like, comment on, or share it More followers will tag their friends if you ask them to it Find out which call to action works best by testing a bunch out Figure out what your audience likes, and double down on it: Do a little research to find out what your followers love Go through your posts and see which ones got the most likes and comments Try to find out which categories of your audience like it and why What next? Give the people what they want! Network: Networking doesn’t only wonders in real life There are hundreds of social media accounts that would love to share your post if you share one of theirs This will make you appear on other pages and attract more followers Search for accounts that already this, and get in touch with them There are millions of people online You can make at least a few friends One of the best ways to grow your account is by contacting other accounts around the same amount of followers and asking for a temporary or permanent “share for share” This means you share one of their photos, tag them in it, and leave their username in the description They will the same, and hopefully you’ll both gain some new followers! Pay for Instagram Shoutouts: This is like the previous method, but you look for accounts that are way above you in follow rankings There are some accounts that charge a few dollars for shoutouts This can be a great way to buy publicity Look for popular accounts in your industry, and talk to them to see whether they can a shoutout for you and how much they charge This gives you a doorway to large networks From my experience, this and a contest are the best way to boost your numbers if you’re under 50,000 followers It may be pricey at first, but eventually the snowball effect will start Finding Active Followers: Find accounts like yours Then go to their recent photos, and find people who liked that photo There should be at least 100+ likes on the photo, then go through and follow a bunch of these accounts I recommend a couple hundred each day, as most people say the limit is 1000 per day Also, don’t follow more than 100 per hour, instead invest in a software robot that will this automatically Eventually you’ll get a ton of active followers, which is important, because you could have 1,000,000 followers with no likes If you have 1,000 followers, and get 1,000 likes, then your ratio is amazing and you’ll have much better opportunities when monetizing your account Start a contest: Think out of the box, and look for something that can engage a wide range of followers while creating competition Consider giving out a cool prize to winners, but make sure it’s relevant For example, you can ask people to respond to specific images and tags in your caption, or ask them to use a hashtag on an image Don’t give away watches when your niche is garden chairs Do give away books if your niche is book reviews! Answering One of the easiest ways to gain respect on the web is to respond directly to your audience when they ask questions Whether this be through Youtube comments, Twitter mentions, or another platform, you should make engaging with your audience top priority Specifically scaling this engagement, and answering tons of people each day, while listening to their feedback to improve your content, is probably one of the best pieces of advice you will find in this course Adding this kind of value will eventually make it super easy to monetize if you’re ever in a tight spot! Being easily found is super important I’m going to be giving you a very basic SEO course, so you can apply these tips to all of your previous methods, growing your blog, Youtube channel, and social media pages exponentially Basic SEO In today's world, the Internet is a MASSIVE community including MILLIONS of users It is the largest communication tool on the face of the planet The Internet has a bewildering number of web pages - hundreds of thousands With all these destinations, you randomly type different URLs into your browser hoping you’ll magically land in the right place? No No one does that (well, I’m sure someone does, but he’s crazy Don’t talk to him) You’re smart You use a search engine Search engines rank the keywords, content, and other features of websites Then they display the pages closest to your search in a nice tidy list for you Google is the most used website on the internet for a reason, guys SEO, Search Engine Optimization, is a set of techniques used for making your website come up near the top of the results when someone searches for something in your field It is one of the most powerful things you can for your business, and it should be low or no cost I designed this eBook chapter for beginners who want to know about the art and science of search engine optimization I want to teach you everything I know about how it works: from the keywords you enter to generate traffic to your site, to explaining practical ways to get ranked highly by search engines Search engines use programs called “web crawlers” and “spiders” to collect data about websites Companies like Google, Yahoo, and MSN scan your site for keywords or keyword groups that describe the content of the website They’ll also investigate the URL of your web site, the code structure which forms web page, and links on the website Search engine companies store all this information in their own databases and look inside their systems for a good match when someone makes a search These crawler or spider programs move by using the hyperlink structure of the web When a spider finds and crawls a page, then the page’s data is stored in the search engine company’s database This process is called indexing The search engine uses it to find all the data, web pages, and documents that its spiders have crawled This gives them an accurate representation of all the pages on the internet When you enter a query in the search engine (when you a simple search), you might type keywords like "affordable kitten wares.” A search engine like Google processes your query and displays all results related to it I just tried to search for “affordable kitten wares,” and, sure enough, the first result is cat houses and condos on Amazon Oddly, it tried to autocorrect to “affordable kitten wars.” I wasn’t aware there was a difference between cheap kitten wars and expensive kitten wars I also didn’t know kitten wars were a thing Keep in mind, the search engine ranks the results of your query Google runs a sorting equation to find which results are most related to your query This sorting equation is called an algorithm Every search engine has different algorithms depending on priorities they give to different things Basically, some look for some features on a page more than others It’s hard to be specific because the companies like to keep it secret (proprietary) Their exact formulas - the secret sauce - are a competitive edge over the other search engine companies Stuff like keyword percentages, how many other pages link to the site (backlinks), and social media shares all play a factor in rankings Now let’s talk about what you can do: SEO You’re going to create the pages that search engines like the best You’re going to match important queries and offer the most value to the user Despite the fact search engines are super advanced, they still can’t understand web pages with the same way humans SEO acts like the brain which helps search engines understand what each page of the web is about and whether to show it to users It is important for you to understand both the abilities and limitations of search engines because then you can properly build, arrange, and display your web content in way search engine can digest Without SEO, a website search engines aren’t going to like you, and mind not even find you Let’s talk about the limitations Search engines, after all, are robots Online forms: Search engines can’t complete online forms They can’t login to your site, so they can’t see the things people see only after they log into your site, if it is protected This means stuff that you give to paying members on a membership website can’t be seen by search engines Duplicate pages: Often duplicate versions of the same pages are created on websites which are using Content Management System (CMS) This becomes a problem for search engines trying to find original content Wordpress is technically a CMS and has plugins for this issue Look into your platform specifically if you think this might be an issue Non-text content: Non-text content like images, Adobe Flash files, videos, photos, and audio are difficult to parse (look at) for search engines They can’t see it like a human Google is really good with images though Uncommon terms: if you use an uncommon term for a query, for instance, "food cooling unit" instead of the refrigerator, it will make it difficult for search engines to recognize Language and internationalization subtleties: So let’s say you’re American You spell color as "color" Our buddies overseas, the British, well they write "colour." Both spellings are used but you should be careful to match the country most of your users are in Otherwise, it might be harder to match their queries Would you go out of your way to type “colour,” so you could better match a British company’s site? Mixed contextual signals: Make sure the titles of your documents, blog posts, or reports fit with the contextual body What the heck is a contextual body? It’s the surrounding content It’s what you’re site is about as a whole If you run a website about car repair, and you randomly have a post about your experience gardening cucumbers, it’s going to confuse the crap out of a search engine Websites compete for attention Don’t think for a second that there isn’t a ruthless fight going on out there for the top spots on a search engine results page Professionals know clicks are money To increasing your traffic and visibility, you need to follow SEO recommendations “Build it, and they will come” isn’t an accurate quote Market yourself, my friend Search engine optimization process SEO isn’t only about creating search engine-friendly websites but also making websites better for users As I’ve said, search engines are limited Web pages not look the same to search engines as they to users In this chapter, you will learn more about the technical aspects of building web pages and modifying them SEO can be performed in two separate groups: internal website optimization and external website optimization Onsite and Offsite Internal website optimization includes designing the website, using suitable keywords, meta tags, page names, pictures, content text, style of text, links, site map and page language You’re going to learn what those things are Don’t worry External website optimization has to with things outside your website How many Facebook shares you have? How many other websites link to you? Is one of them super-reputable like CNN.com? You want to be on social media, on news sites, on forums, and everywhere you think will help you get links that will not just lead people to your site but also search engines Keyword analysis You need a list of keywords you want your website to hit This will vary based on what you want people to come to one of your pages for If it’s a page selling blue t-shirts, you probably want the keyword “blue t-shirts” to appear a few times Notice how that’s more than one keyword Some people might call this a “keyword group” or longtail keyword Don’t be afraid to use them if people usually search for a group of words together If you use the term “blue T-shirts for children in USA”, there will likely be less competition, but also less traffic volume Besides the obvious keywords that you would naturally add if you were writing a page (unless you’re the kind of person who refuses to say the words “blue t-shirt” while selling blue t-shirts), there are some extra steps you can take Tools like Google Trends and Google Adwords Keyword Planner will allow you to see specifically what people want out of a website like yours So if you’re a t-shirt company, you could type “t-shirt” into Google Trends, and it will give you loads of useful information To break this down a little, it will give you a map of countries where people are searching “t-shirt.” The countries with a high number of searches are prime for your business to target The “Related queries” box shows you what people search along with t-shirts I got the names of some other t-shirt companies like “teespring.” What that means is, I have popular competitors, who I should research Maybe I can learn a trick or two from them to help my own t-shirt company I also got the related query, “breaking bad t-shirt.” This means Breaking Bad t-shirts are really popular right now, and my business might benefit if I sold them and started using the keyword “breaking bad” on my site Google Adword Keyword Planner is a bit more complex It will generate tons of related popular searches to “t-shirt” like “Shirts Funny,” “Cool Shirts,” and “Shirts On Sale.” It will go further and show you how much it costs to buy ads on the internet using those keywords and linking to your site But we’re not talking about digital advertising right now, so you should just focus on using it to find popular keyword searches in your topic You better believe that after this research, my t-shirt shop pages are going to have the keywords “Funny,” “Cool,” and “Sale” on them Think about when you run a search You’re probably only going to type 2-3 words Now think about your users When they type those 2-3 words for your subject, they’re probably going to type keywords Make sure you hit those keywords on your page BUT you can’t just smother hundreds of them everywhere Search engines will see through that and treat it like a bad joke This is called “keyword stuffing” and will actually get you a penalty If you try to be “clever,” and something like have a white background and put the keywords in white font behind everything, search engines are going to punish your website and lower its ranking Aim to have a keyword density of 5-8% AKA, use a keyword for every 100 words of normal writing Some say up to 4% if your content is over 3000 words Where should you put them? I know - your white background idea was so good But don’t worry There are plenty of other tricks you can use: section titles, image labels, and the paragraphs near the top of the page Web crawlers care more about what’s at the top just like humans Some fancier technical places you can put keywords in your code are the title tag, meta description tag, image tags, and few more I’m going to talk all about that in the next section Design and Code Tweaks During SEO, design is a major factor Having dozens of flash animations and images might look nice but at the same time, SEO doesn’t like long load times A website should have a simple structure to its content that’s easy for search engines and users to browse One rare thing to look out for is if your site is using frames Heads up, I wouldn’t read further into this paragraph if you’re not a developer Anyway, if you have frameset tags, it means you’re using a feature from the old days of the web for loading multiple mini-pages at once Nowadays, they are a bit out-of-place and can even be used for hacker attacks I’m not sure why you might need them, maybe it’s a special situation, but if you do, make sure you have noframes implemented as specified here: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_noframes.asp Just to clarify, 99% of you won’t have to deal with this, but it can help with SEO for those who Let’s talk about pictures - search engines can’t really see your beautiful photos What this means for you is that you should use normal text links (you know, the kind highlighted in blue) instead of image links (you click a picture, and it takes you somewhere) If you’re using images as part of your content like a normal person, not as a link, then take the extra step to fill in the "alt" property Example: < img src="http://www.kurs.com/images/hizli-okuma-kursu.jpg " alt ="Application to the speed read course" > Don’t edit anything you’re not comfortable with, but if you figured out how to get to the source HTML of your page or have a helper tool, then I think you can fill in “alt=’related text’” in between these caret things called tags: < /> What about your domain name itself? If your website URL is keywordkeywordkeyword.com, and each of those “keywords” is a real keyword for your site’s specialty, you’re going to get tons of traffic (as long as you have decent content) Make sure your website is always online though Downtime on your domain registrar or host’s side will reduce the benefits search engines will give you What you call your website is important too This can be different or the same as the domain name Keep it short and descriptive Avoid using characters like "-" because search engines think they’re trashy and will lower your rank We’re going to dive a little into code again and talk about title tags These show up in the tab of a browser when a user opens your page They can be up to 50-80 characters, and search engines love them (so stash some keywords there!) If you’re cool opening up your page’s HTML source, check in between the tags for Put your title in there If you don’t have title tags, add them If you don’t even have head tags… then something went terribly wrong when your site was being developed Description tags are like title tags and should be in your HTML head They should be a sentence describing what’s on the page, probably around 150-155 characters < meta name="description" content="What is search engine optimization?" > The "abstract" label, which summarizes the page content with a single sentence, can be used instead of a meta description For example, < meta name = "abstract" content="How can search engine optimization be performed?" > Search engines will think you’re awesome for using a meta description or meta abstract tag There’s also a meta keywords tag Search engines don’t care about this that much anymore because people abused it in the past by stuffing their sites with keywords But since some still look for it or value it at least a little, the tag looks like this (don’t have more than 20 words): < meta name="keywords" content="seo, search engine optimization, search engine, robots, backlink, page rank, social media" > We’ve been dealing a lot with web crawlers/robots There are actually HTML robot tags specifically for them If you want to research it, you can add code to things like direct the robots away from certain pages or focus them on other pieces of content Here’s the weird part: robots don’t have to listen to you It’s just like a nice suggestion for them I wouldn’t recommend getting too deep into this if you’re not a developer, but here’s some code asking robots to come back to your page every days: < meta name="revisit-after" content="7 days" > Now let’s think about the overall quality of your site Does it look good? Are people actually reading the content? Does it link to other helpful sites? Is it easy to get around? Is it fast? Users care Robots care And so should you Average pages visited and average time on site are a factor for your rankings The h1 tag is used to optimize the web pages for specific keywords It’s also the main header on your page - the big writing that appears at the top or in the center My h1 has my website name “PracticalPie.” Other heading tags (h2-h6) get smaller as you use higher numbers and also hold SEO weight Here’s another question: What is backlinking? Let’s say you have a website about saving the whales You happen to know several other sites that have a treasure trove of information about why whales are awesome and how to save them Well, search engines would appreciate it if you linked to those sites It’s like helping a brother out, and you get credit for it Some of you might be rubbing your hands evilly and thinking, I’m going to backlink to all the sites and get all the traffic! Yeah, search engine robots are going to stop that cold If I link to other whale sites, they love me If I link to a site that wants to “save the bees,” it’s somewhat related, so meh If I link to Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, the web crawlers will probably think I’m the fakest whale-saving activist on the internet Backlinks should actually help the user and be authentic One simple way to get backlinks is to ask other bloggers or website owners if you can write a post for them Just contact them on their “contact us” page and tell them you’ll write 1000 words of content for a simple link Another method to get edu backlinks is to host a scholarship and email a ton of universities Google loves it when educational sites link to a website The owner of 10beasts.com did just this with a $1000 scholarship and has profited over 100k with Amazon sales in the past year Well worth it You should also have a site map that lets robots know where all the pages on your website are Use a tutorial or automatic tool to create a site map XML file, and then make sure you host it in the right place Tweaks might have to be made for foreign language SEO I’m not going to go into depth because Wordpress plugins can manage this for you, and there are plenty of site map generators out there I’ve already said this one a few times, but it’s really serious: don’t have a slow site Don’t try to put too much on one page, compress high definition images for slower devices, and be wary of complex Adobe Flash programs People will click away from your site while it loads, robots will rank your page lower, and lagging websites are just really unpleasant And lastly, this wouldn’t be complete without mentioning social media Millions of people are on social media in the US and in Europe That’s not to discount other places; Turkey has the 8th largest social networking population (above world average) So present your content everywhere you can! Build links, get users, create awareness around your business! Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Reddit… if all the social media sites gets a little overwhelming, try to figure out which platform most people who would like your site are on, and focus on it Utilize the 80/20 rule! There are 156 million websites on the Internet Wonder why? Developing websites is the least costly and the most influential way to reach millions of people The Internet is a tool used for marketing, management, testing business strategy, market research, and competitor analysis Search engines are used to reach websites while search engine optimization (SEO) is used to place your website on the top rows of search results Because of the significant nature of search engine optimization, it is very important for a company to be good at it Use the SEO techniques you find here and on the web Create original content Write in a way people can understand And one more warning, if you’re going to get fancy with images and animations, make sure they don’t slow the site, and robots still see the keywords This was a small SEO tutorial There’s a ton to learn, and I suggest starting your own Wordpress blog to find out what works and what doesn’t There are many theories, tutorials, and tools out there, but most search engine algorithms are proprietary and secret! Check out MOZ.com for more credible information on on-site and off-site SEO CHAPTER THREE Monetize How to monetize Now after following the previous chapters, you should have a pretty decent following Some niche followers who are intrigued by the content you are posting and maybe even starting to see you as an authority figure Great! It’s time to start monetizing the influence you’ve gathered The next couple chapters are going to be discussing ways to properly monetize your content to maximize the returns on your initial investments After all, we’re doing this to make passive content while doing what we love, right? It’s important to note that there are literally an infinite ways to monetize your content, and you should not limit your methods to the ideas in this course Affiliate Marketing To sum it up in once sentence, affiliate marketing is when you sell someone else’s product, and you make a percentage of their profits In my experience, affiliate marketing has a huge return on investment if you it correctly I’ll be sharing how I have monetized my Youtube channel and the results I have received, including dollar amounts So on Youtube, I use two or three affiliate programs Blinkist, has to with my niche, book reviews They have summarized over 1500 books and also have the summaries in audio format So it’s really easy to sell this product to people who come to my channel chasing information in books I earn about $20 per sale on a low sale, and $40 on a high sale I also earn $0.50 for every free trial, which is pretty awesome From Blinkist, in a couple months (they pay every months), I’ve earned around $2000 The program I use to make the videos on my channel is called Videoscribe I earn $7 for a monthly subscription, and $24 for a yearly subscription For the past 2-3 months (they pay out monthly) I’ve averaged $100 per month The difference between these two affiliate programs, noticeable in their profit margins, is the consumer who buys them Someone buying Blinkist wants to consume They want to learn Someone buying Videoscribe wants to produce They want to teach They are looking to start a business It’s much easier to sell a product to someone who wants to consume I’ve also recently signed up for the Amazon Associate program With this, I just put a link to an Amazon product, and whenever a view clicks on that link (usually a book), I earn a percentage on almost ANYTHING they buy from Amazon in the next 24 hours When you start, it is 4%, then when you sell and ship over items, the affiliate percentage raises to 6% Highly profitable if you get hundreds of clicks a day because tons of people order things on Amazon This is the old-school passive income, but has really stayed the second method to monetize a website (Adsense is usually first place) Fan Funding It’s pretty awesome if you get to this point because it means there are people who realize you have given them so much value, they feel obligated to give back There are many platforms out there when it comes to fan funding, but two come to mind for a proper “passive” income stream Patreon is probably the most famous, but YouTube also has an option to set up fan funding There are plenty of other business models out there, but we’re going to talk about getting revenue directly from fans in this chapter Put in simple words, when we talk about Patreon we are referring to a system which helps people get paid for things which they have already created or are in the process of creating It could be almost anything that adds value for the people using it or viewing it It could be videos, songs, webcomics, and almost anything people love Your fans basically pay a few bucks on a regular basis to help you out It could be in the form of monthly payments or a payment for each post Whenever we come across something we like, we things like comment on it, like it on social media, and share it with friends Going a step further, you could help fund the creator of this awesome thing, “patronize” him or her, and enter deeper into their community Giving a few dollars to the creator, however small it might be, could go a long way in helping them and reinforcing a cause you’re passionate about It’s a win-win situation You get gratification from something creative and amazing, and you help the creator make a living out of it If you have 1000 fans and they all give you $1/month, that’s a decent sized income to work with for doing something you love The unique thing about Patreon is the simple and easy approach to funding It might have the basic idea of being a crowdfunding platform for creators, but don’t let that fool you Hidden in the name of Patreon is a combination of two words, “patron” and “eon.” Patron means a person who is ready to offer support financially, and eon means an indefinite, usually long, period of time Today, around million dollars of funds are sent by patrons across the world through this platform At the end of the day, there is no doubt that Patreon is worth the effort because of its reach and efficiency The future of Patreon is promising Recently, wealthy investors spent 15 million dollars on the business, meaning the Patreon company has plenty of funds to expand When you become a patron member of Patreon, you agree to give away a small amount to your favored creators It could be anything from $1 to $20 or sometimes higher amounts It will go to the creator/artist’s account each time they release something new like a illustration, picture, song, poem, or a video As a patron you have the option to set a limit on the maximum monthly budget you are ready to pay to an author to avoid overshooting your budget You set up this payment plan for the creator one time, and then wait for the content to start rolling in You will get unlimited access to a stream of your favorite artist’s work You’ll be able to directly interact with them like normal audience members can’t Patrons also get some special benefits from creators like tutorials on music production, free concert tickets, and opportunities to spend time with them in person While nothing is charged to the patrons other than what they sign up to give, creators pay a 5% commission to Patreon Creators also might pay a credit card transaction fee around 4% At the end of the day, they’ll get around 90% of the donations coming in from patrons Annoying, but not a bad deal If you need funding, this is a great option If you’re a video producer, author, blogger, YouTuber, web comic artist, or podcaster, there’s plenty of others like you doing great on Patreon Anyone who has an audience and consistently creates content should consider joining Seriously, even ethnic fashion jewelry creators benefit So register on the site The resources there are extremely useful and will help you understand how Patreon works Try uploading a video about yourself and filling out a profile Afterwards, spread the message that you’re on Patreon, and don’t wait to ask for support! Put a process in place to systematically get patrons Think about how you can mold your messages around your work and how you can reach out to more people Maybe it’s a poster in your shop window or a quick message at the end of a YouTube video Eventually, you’ll have some easy, low-upkeep passive income Ad Revenue So this is my expertise because as of the time of writing, this is 90% of my current income, specifically from my largest Youtube channel So advertising revenue is when you make amazing content, and show an advertisement somewhere to the viewer You can sign up for Adsense, and there are tons of other platforms that allow you to earn this way on a website or blog This generates revenue for you It probably generates revenue for the advertiser and company that is sponsoring the ad The downfall is that ads can be seen as a negative part of a business model, and some people install adblockers that completely remove this method For Youtube, most content creators earn an average of $2-$3 per 1,000 views This doesn’t seem like much, until you realize that poverty wage is equal to around 1,000,000 views per month Do this a couple times a month and you’ve got quite the amazing income stream! For websites, people can ear pennies up to $40 per single click! I’m allowed to show total dollar figures from my ad revenue from my Youtube channels, so here they are: September 2016: 293 October 2016: 658 November 2016: 2400 December 2016: 5800 January 2017: 13000 Just remember; and this is very important - YOU HAVE TO PAY TAXES on self-employed income I recommend saving 25% for when tax season rolls around That’s the major downfall of these income streams; you will have to pay tax Make sure to keep pristine record of all your expenses to cut this number down For all the scripts of my videos, animation artist, articles for my websites, I keep a Paypal receipt to use as a write off at the end of the year In 2016, I broke even and hardly paid any taxes In future months, I won’t have to any work (passive income) and I’ll still earn, which makes the startup costs worth it! Sponsorships Sponsorships are when you and a company make an agreement to directly or indirectly promote a product Sometimes you can email companies and ask for a sponsorship, other times you’ll be contacted It’s kind of like affiliate marketing, but you get the product instead of cash Also, you are attached to this product You are basically saying “This product is so good, even I use it!” A couple weeks ago, I contacted Sennheiser about using some of their headphones in my future videos I’ll just show you the emails to offer the best value: Me: Hey! I'm not sure how to officially contact you guys (I was referred by xxxx xxxx), but I was wondering about incorporating your product into my personal brand I run a Youtube channel called "Practical Psychology" with 570,000 subscribers (400k in last months), and I'm going to start doing a new type of video series, much more personal, and I was wondering if you could send me a free pair of high quality headphones I would love for people to recognize your brand when they think of my channel and personal brand, and for your headphones to get more reach, so let me know what you think! :) Sennheiser: I’m xxxx, [job] with Sennheiser It’s incredible how much success you are having with growing your channel! It’s very impressive We typically send gear to creators to test, review and showcase our equipment We’re open to giving you some stuff however, I’d be interested to understand how you plan to recognize Sennheiser in your videos since they are voice over style of content I really enjoy what you’re doing and subbed to your channel personally Keep up the great work and I look forward to hearing back from you Me:I plan on recording some videos showcasing my studio in the future, including my custom built desktop, microphone and headphones, with books in the background A weekly Q&A show is something I've been considering, but definitely going to be making a video like this in the future: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huJrpO4Fev4 (Link to Fightmediocrity’s Top Books video) Where I would wear the headphones and they would become part of my personality on the channel Right now my channel is branded in a direction that many people think I am a large company, a group of people, but I plan on being more transparent with them, more authentic I receive tons of ... example: How to get a girl to like you,get a girl to like you ,how to attract a girl ,how to get a girl ,how to make a girl like you ,how to make her like you ,how to get her to like you ,how to get... probably a month (2 hours a day), setting up the channel and adding videos I would outsource topics like How to get rid of mosquito bites”, How to get rid of stomach fat”, and How to clean out... they’re learning about passive income Adding $120/month income each month, and by the end of the year, in theory, you’d be up to $1440/month with NO MAINTENANCE WORK Scaling passive income can be difficult
