One of his first paychecks went to purchase an mm camcorder, and his passion for video production has grown ever since He edited his first video back in high school by chaining together two VCRs to create a thematic introduction to his senior project, and was a Media Arts major at Western Connecticut State University He eventually went on to start his own company in 2004 (look for Bryant Productions on Facebook!) and films a range of promotional and internal training videos for companies nationwide For fun he produces short films including The Other Half, the first place winner of the 2009 Connecticut Film Festival's 24 Hour Cup 'O Joe Filmmaking Competition Chris has experience as a voiceover artist and event videographer When he isn't shooting video or editing, Chris enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife and three dogs at their home in Connecticut Einar Ritsmer is an enthusiastic videographer recording and editing several videos every year He has a M.Sc in electrical engineering and IT Einar participates in various peer-to-peer video forums giving advice on video editing and editing hardware He is also a Sony Certified Vegas User (SCVU) www.it-ebooks.info www.PacktPub.com Support files, eBooks, discount offers and more You might want to visit www.PacktPub.com for support files and downloads related to your book Did you know that Packt offers eBook versions of every book published, with PDF and ePub files available? We went through the process of using the Burn Disc from the timeline tool This tool is ideal for burning either a DVD or Blu-ray disk quickly, which creates a single movie disk to share your production [ 238 ] www.it-ebooks.info Chapter 10 More rendering information The rendering process, regardless of the delivery method, is pretty much the same as described in the previous Time for action section with the difference laying in the output video and audio property values Having said that, we must also take care in knowing what format our final video will be needed in, right at the beginning of the shooting process If for example, we were producing a short film or advertising segment that would be displayed at movie theaters, then we need to be very aware of the Aspect Ratio required to display the project on the big screen Although all HD TVs today have 16:9 ratio, movie theaters have a different ratio of 1.85:1 in the USA and 1.66:1 in Europe This isn't considered when filming commences, then some of the footage upper and lower regions will be lost such as in the following screenshot of our clip: As you can see, this cinematic look, which is the 1.85:1 USA ratio, starts to cut into our picture top and bottom and we would have to go to each clip and adjust its Pan/Crop tool to get the most from the scene But in general, pretty much all delivery methods such as DVD, Blu-ray, YouTube, PlayStation Video, PSP Video, HD TV, and so on, are all 16:9 aspect ratio, it is simply the bit rate of the video which will define the quality Obviously the higher the bitrate, the higher the quality and therefore the bigger the data amount needed to supply the whole film This is why Blu-ray can hold up to 25 GB in a single layer disc and 50 GB in a double layer disc, to accommodate these larger files Plus with all the behind the scenes footage and the "Making Of" content added to the Blu-ray package, these sizes are essential [ 239 ] www.it-ebooks.info Can I put this on YouTube?: Rendering and Delivering the Final Project As you start to encounter other delivery methods, you will generally find a codec to suit that method If you look at the codecs available just in the Sony AVC/MVC section of the Render As window, you will find it starts at a simple 512 kbps for showing a low quality video straight from a USB stick, up to FULL HD 16 mbps for Blu-ray, and everything in between The same information applies to the audio content The lower the quality, the less bitrate is needed, and as the codec increases we can add surround sound audio to our Blu-ray disk in the form of a Dolby AC3 5.1 audio file The beauty of audio is that the file sizes are a lot smaller than video, so sometimes a low quality video can be saved by using a high quality audio codec, such as WAV 48k uncompressed, if the video codec allows for it Spend the time necessary to investigate the many Render As options available to you in Sony Vegas Pro 11 and your knowledge of the video editing world will begin to expand more than you ever thought possible Summary In this chapter we covered a lot of information dealing with the finalizing of a project and creating a master file to deliver our project We discussed: Video and audio compression and why the need for it Codecs that apply to video and audio renders and their differences How to use this knowledge to create master files to use in DVD Architect authoring software Considerations for creating video for the Web Burning a single movie disc from the timeline We also discussed other considerations when selecting your Render As settings in Sony Vegas Pro 11 The knowledge you have now acquired will de-mystify the process of video editing and the creation of DVD and Blu-ray files for you Once again I would highly recommend going over this chapter a few times to ensure you haven't missed any points, and that you have the best understanding of the processes I would like to wish you all the best in your future video productions using Sony Vegas Pro 11 [ 240 ] www.it-ebooks.info Pop Quiz Answers Chapter 2, Let the Magic Begin: Beginning the Project and Acquiring Media Which of the following Project Properties would be incorrect if my Video was to be burned to a PAL DVD Disk Correct answer is D Ans=> Frame rate of 24.000 frames per second Chapter 3, Video Editing Concepts and Application To make an Edit or Split point to a media clip, we use the key combination?
