Nguyen Nguyet Minh LESSON PLAN ENGLISH 10 UNIT FOR A BETTER COMMUNITY GETTING STARTED (p.38-39) Date: 11/10/2018 I/ Class description: Around 20 students of a 10th-grade class, Vietnam-Australia School (intermediate level) II/ Time: 45 minutes III/ Objectives: After the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Get to know the whole unit’s topic: volunteer and volunteer work - Understand and remember new words: volunteer, disadvantaged, by chance, advertisement, apply, hopeless, useful, meaningful, helpful - Present their opinions about volunteer work - Make dialogues using expressions: That sounds great!, … by chance, Not really, Well,… IV/ Teaching aids: printed pictures (4), situation cues (4), ppt slides VI/ Procedures: Stages Time Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities - Greet students, say the reason of being here, Introductio n 3mins -To familiarize students with a new teacher - Write unit + stages of the lesson on the board: Unit For a better community - Getting started Warm up activity 12mins - Rule: The class is divided into groups Each group is given a picture Aims - Listen to T’s - To elicit Ss’ background Nguyen Nguyet Minh to describe In minutes, discuss in group and prepare to give a small presentation about the picture in minute Ss can base on these following questions: instructions - Take part in the activity + Look at the people in the picture Who are they? + What are they doing? How you know? knowledge and create a favorable atmosphere in class + Why you think they are doing this? - Check Ss’ understanding: How many minutes you have to prepare? Are you going to work in group or work by yourself? Vocabulary 4mins 6mins Read mins - Facilitate the activity - Lead to the topic: Volunteer and volunteer work - Ask Ss to listen to the audio and underline the words whose meanings they are not sure about in the dialogue - Play the recording Vocabulary learning - Present words and illustrate their meanings with pictures - Ask Ss if there is any other word that they don’t know in the dialogue If yes, explain - Have Ss read the dialogue - Ask Ss to answer comprehension questions individually in minutes - Listen and underline - To help Ss pay attention while listening - Listen to the -To make sure L Ss understand these important -Take notes vocabulary -Read the dialogue - Answer Qs -To help Ss practice reading out loud Nguyen Nguyet Minh + When did Quan call Hieu? individually + What was Hieu doing when Quan called? + What subjects did Hieu teach children? + How did Hieu get the job? + Was Hieu successful as a volunteer teacher there?
