Why? I was around at my boyfriend’s house a couple of weeks ago, and his mother asked me if I’d like to stay for lunch I said I was expected home, but it was a complete lie – I’d actually told my parents I’d be out all day, and not to expect me home before the evening The thing is I’d eaten there before and the food was terrible, but you can’t tell the truth in situations like that, can you? I’m not really keen on lying, but I was in town the other day and I bumped into one of my neighbors – she’s a well-known local busybody She said she’d heard that my sister and her husband had split up, and she wanted to know if it was true I kept an absolutely straight face and said I’d no idea It was a blatant lie, of course – I mean I’d known for ages – but I wasn’t going to give family secrets away in the street The trouble is, she’d have wanted to know all the details and everyone would have known by the weekend I have to admit, my life would have been pretty dull if I hadn’t told a few lies from time to time Not wicked ones, you know, just white lies that don’t hurt anyone I remember once when I was at a party and I got stuck with this really boring boy – all he could talk about was football Anyway, after about half an hour, I was really fed up so I told him that my cousin used to play for England – his eyes nearly pooped out of his head He wanted to know my cousin’s name, and could I introduce him to him and everything When I said it was Paul Gascoigne, I thought he was going to pass out with excitement It was when my sister was away on holiday last summer – and she was expecting her exam results – towards the end of August She’s asked me to open all her letters and telephone her with the results as soon as they arrived The thing is, she’d only been away about a week when the letter came – I was so excited, I just ripped the letter and open without thinking I couldn’t believe it when I saw that she’d failed I didn’t know what to – I couldn’t bring myself to tell her She rang a couple of days later and i said the letter hadn’t come I mean, if I told her the result, it would have ruined her holiday Homework assignment Activity 11: Choose one of the following questions and answer them What qualities you think are most important in a doctor/patient relationship?
