Week 20 Date of pre : Jan 6 Date of te ; Jan 12 Period 55 UNIT 9: A FIRST-AID COURSE Lesson 1: Getting started & Listen and Read I. Objective: By the end of the lesson, sts will be ale to know what they would do in the situations which require first aid. II. Language content : 1. vocabulary :first –aid , bleed , bee-sting , emergency,wound , ambulance ,calm down fell …. 2. Grammar : revision ( present simple , past simple , future simple ) III. Techniques: chatting, pairwork, groupwork, feedback IV. Teaching Aids: Textbook, pictures on page 80, drawing, cassette V. Procedures: Teacher and students’ activitives Contents Warm up - Ask sts to open the book and lok at the things. Tell them these things are often used for first aid. - Ask sts to close the books and go to the board to write the names of the things they have just seen from memory. - Ask ss to open the book and go through the words in English. - Ask ss to work in groups to write down what they would do in these situations which require first aid. - Get feedback & correct * Answer key: 1. emergency room 2. sterile dressing 3. medicated oil 4. ice 5. water pack 6. alcohol *Possible answer: + A girl has a burn on her arm use cold water/ ice to ease the pain + A boy has a bad cut on his leg Use alcohol/ medicated oil/ sterile dressing + A girl has a nose bleed Use a handkerchief to stop the bleeding/ tell her not to lie down + A boy has a bee sting Use medicated oil Pre Reading I. Pre teach vocabulary T gives the new words Sts listen ,read and take note * Checking technique: slap the board II. Gap fill Prediction: - T asks sts to predict the words in the gaps. - Sts guess the words -T Calls on some sts to go to the board and write their words. New words: 1. an ambulance ( visual ) 2. Set the scene: - Ask ss some questions to elicit the models - Have ss repeat 2 times before writing them on the board. - Underline the key words * Questions: 1. I want you to get me a bandage. Model sentences Concept checking: - Get ss to work out the rules for themselves by asking questions - After formulating the model sentences, elicit some more phrases with the same use from Ss - Get ss to copy. 1. Objectives : By the end of the lesson students will be able to use in order to and so as to indicate purposes by reading for the instructions about some more situations requiring first-aid I. Language contents: - Structures: In order to and so as to indicate purposes. - Vocabulary : on the first-aids. II. Techniques: Matching ,network III. Teaching aids: pictures ,drawing, mimes II. Procedures: Teachers’ activities Students’ activities 1. Warm up: (7ms) Call Ss to finish network. Draw a network with an example on the board and use it as a game. Suggested words: Shock fainting, snake bite, nose bleed Burn, cut, bee sting. 2. Pre-Reading(15 ms) -Teach new words lie flat (v) ( drawing) elevate (v)≠ lower (gesture) victim = person who nesds first-aid overheat (v) = make sth too hot tissue damage (translation) ease =stop Have Ss copy and repeat in chorus . Read the instructions for each case. Give network and call Ss to think and finish in groups. 3.While - Reading (10ms) Ask SS to read the instructions and finish net work. Pre-writing: (15ms) -Introduce the lesson by giving the questions: 1. What do you often do to thank a friend who gave you flowers or present? 2.What you will write in the letter to thank your friend? -Explain some new words.
