Gender Equality and the Global Jobs Challenge 6th Annual Women’s Empowerment Principles Event 2014 WEPS LEADERSHIP AWARDS March 2014 The second Annual WEPs Leadership Awards recognizes CEO commitment to gender equality and concrete and innovative actions taken to advance the Principles and particularly, Principle One: Leadership Promotes Gender Equality Review Process The review process was aimed at finding outstanding and innovative initiatives meant to advance the implementation of the WEPs and gender equality within a company Specifically, the review focused on actions spearheaded by the CEO that resulted in concrete, sustainable programmes with measurable impact Awards Recipients Mr Cem Boyner, Chief Executive Officer, Boyner Group Award Category: Benchmarking for Change Advocating ‘Democracy for All’, Cem Boyner leads initiatives that aim to bring democratic elements of representation and participation into action not only in civil life, but also in the workplace As a recipient of the WEPs Leadership Award, he hopes others embrace the Principles and take action to spread a culture of democracy in working and political spheres In addition to his substantial business responsibilities, he remains deeply involved in strengthening non-governmental organizations, recognizing that business and civil society need to work together He is the former president of the Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (TUSIAD) and was the first chairman of the Advisory Board of the non-profit mentoring program "More Women in Boardroom" He continues to serve as the member of Board of Directors of The National Retail Federation (NRF), the world's largest retail trade association Mr Anant Gupta, President and Chief Executive Officer, HCL Technologies Award Category: Principles Described as focused, passionate and futurist, Mr Gupta’s distinctive leadership style was profiled and commended in a business bestseller ‘Blueprint to a billion: essentials to achieve exponential growth’ by David G Thomson As part of the focus on the future, enhancing opportunities for women and advancing gender quality developed into key objectives, important for business, innovation, maintaining and retaining talented employees and within the larger society as well Gupta began his career with HCL in 1993 and has held a series of leadership positions in the company since then In his most recent role as President of HCL’s Infrastructure Services Division, he led the company’s brilliant foray into global markets through its pioneering Remote Infrastructure Management (RIM) Services and played a transformational role in the evolution of the IT Operations Management space., Gupta serves as a Trustee of the HCLT Foundation and is also the Executive Sponsor for the company’s Sustainability programs He has been a Task Force member of the New Energy Architecture project run by the World Economic Forum and contributed significantly to global research literature on next generation IT services Mr Joseph F Keefe, President & CEO, Pax World Funds Award Category: Business Case for Action Joseph F Keefe is President & CEO of Pax World Funds where he was the sole male honoree Joe is Chair of the Board of Women Thrive Worldwide (www.womenthrive.org), a Washington-based non-profit advocating for shaping U.S development assistance and trade policy to benefit women and girls living in poverty around the globe He is also a member of the Leadership Group of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (www.weprinciples.org) As one of the first CEOs in the world to endorse the WEPs, Joe continues to champion the WEPs through in his daily work through promotion and support Mr Muhtar Kent, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, The Coca Cola Company Award Category: Community Engagement Mr Kent joined The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta in 1978 and has held a variety of marketing and operations leadership roles throughout his career in markets across Europe, Asia and the Middle East In 2005, Mr Kent was appointed President of Coca-Cola International, responsible for overseeing all operations outside of North America In 2006, he assumed the role of President and Chief Operating Officer and in 2008 was elevated to President and CEO He was named Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2009 Mr Kent holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Hull in England and a Master of Science degree in Administrative Sciences from Cass Business School, City University London Active in the global business community, Mr Kent is Chairman of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s CEO Council on Health and Innovation, a fellow of the Kurien is the Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board, Wipro Limited TK is also a member of the Wipro Corporate Executive Council The prime mover of the comprehensive “Women of Wipro” initiative, Mr Kurien is dedicated to enabling greater participation of women at all levels through nurturing a culture of equal opportunity, supporting the career ambitions of women executives and
