LESSON PLAN Unit 10: Nature in Danger Period: LanguageFocus Class: 11B1 Time allotted: 45 minutes Date: Fed, 18 th , 2009 Supervisor: Le Thi Thu Thuy Student in charge: Nguyen Thi Van Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + Distinguish consonant clusters: /sl/, /sm/, /sn/, /sw/ + Know how to use the grammar point : “Relative pronoun with preposition” Skills: Reading, speaking, writing, listening Lexical items: + Structure: Relative pronoun (That) + a clause + preposition Preposition + Relative pronoun ( Which/ Whom) + a clause Teaching aids: Textbook, poster, picture, colored chalk Procedure I. PRONUNCIATION • WARM- UP: (5’) SOUND AMAZE SLAVE SMALL SNACK SWALLOW SMELL SLEEP SLOWLY SWIM SWITCH SNEEZE SWING SNOWY SLIM SNOOKER SMOKE SMART -T divides the class into 4 groups. Their names are /sl/, /sm/, /sn/, /sw/ -T gives instructions: Each group will have one minute to find out the words that two first letters are the same as your group name. After one minute, the group leaders will go to the blackboard to write down words. The group that can finish first and have more correct words will be the winner. -T checks instruction: 1. How much time do you have to find out word? 1 minute 2. Who will go to the blackboard to write down words? Group leader 3. What words each group have to write down? Words that two first letter are the same as your group’s name - Get Ss to play the game - Declare the winner - T introduces 4 consonant clusters - Ask the whole class to repeat in chorus - Invite some students to practice - Ask Ss to do practice dialogue in textbook at home II. GRAMMAR POINT 1. PRESENTATION (10’, hearts) Game: Finding a half of heart (appendix) - T divides the class into 2 teams - Ask them to match two parts of a heart together and then get them to go to the blackboard to stick the full hearts. The group which has the full hearts first correctly will be the winner -T checks instruction: 1. what do you do now? 2. Where do you stick the full hearts? 3. Who is the winner? -Declare the winner -T elicits note from Ss -T writes note on the blackboard - T invites students to give 2 different examples 2. PRACTICE (15’) 2.1 Exercise 1(p.122), 5’: choose the suitable italicized words to complete the following sentences. -Ask Ss to do exercise 1 in the textbook - Let Ss 3 minutes to finish - T invites some students to give their answers - T gives feedback & correction if any mistake - Keys: 1. whom 2. which 3. whom 4. who 5. that 6. to whom 7. for which 2.2 Game: WHO AM I? WHAT AM I? (10’, pictures, appendix) -T divides the class into many small groups from 4- 5 students -T gives instructions: Each group has a picture (thing, animal, or people) and some prompts. Your duty is to make sentences using Relative pronoun with preposition to describe the picture and other groups will guess your picture by answering question who are you? or what are you?. The group which can guess more right pictures will be the winner. -T checks instructions: 1. What is your duty? describe picture by making sentences using Relative pronoun with preposition 2. What is other groups’ duty? guess the picture 3. Who is the winner? guess more correct picture -T makes model first picture Example: (Using picture of the mouse) - T: I am a thing in which you cook food. What am I? -Expected answer: A span - Get Ss to play the game - Declare the winner -Give feedback and praise for the winning group 3. PRODUCTION ( 8’, poster) Game: LUCKY NUMBER -Divide the class into 2 teams -T gives instruction: there are 3 lucky numbers in this game. If you choose a lucky one, you will get 2 points without answering question. If your number is not lucky one, you must answer question and get one point if it is right otherwise other groups will take your turn. The group which has more points will win the game. -Check instruction: 1. How many lucky numbers are there? 3 2. What will happen if you choose a lucky number? get 2 points without answering question 3. Who is the winner? get more points - Get Ss to play game - Questions: 1. Lucky number. 2. Lucky number. 3 Make a sentence using Relative pronoun WHICH with preposition. 4. Make a sentence using relative pronoun WHOM with preposition. 5. Lucky number. 6. Make a sentence using relative pronoun WHO. 7. Make a sentence using relative pronoun THAT. 8. Make a sentence using relative pronoun WHOM. 9. Make a sentence using relative pronoun WHICH. - Declare the winner. 4. HOME WORK (2’) -Learn the usage of Relative pronoun with preposition. - Do exercise 2, 3 in the textbook. APPENDIX 1.
