How to Solve Generation Gap Conflicts
Causes of Generation Gap
The generation gap refers to the difference in attitudes or behaviour
between a younger generation and the older one In my opinion,
different attitudes towards life, different views about certain
problems, and a lack of communication can cause a generation
gap in most societies
The first factor is that parents and children generally see things
from different perspectives Choosing a career is a good example
for this Many parents try to impose certain careers they favour on
their children, based on their own perceptions However, young people don’t always understand their
parents’ points of views Instead, they prefer to be free to make their own decisions on their future career
Another factor lies in differences in musical tastes, fashion, and
political views between young people and their parents For example, havinga pierced nose might be viewed as fashionable
by some teens, but for many parents, it is considered to be an
act of rebellion against social norms Some parents may also
find their children’s behaviour unacceptable and disrespectful
to traditional values
The major factor causing the generation gap is the lack of communication between parents and their children Parents tend to be dominant and not to trust their children to deal with crises Also, they keep talking too much about certain problems That is
the reason why young people seldom reveal their feelings to their
parents When facing problems, young people prefer to seek help from their classmates or friends
The above mentioned factors could lead to a generation gap In order to bridge the gap
between the old generation and the younger one, mutual
understanding is the vital key The wisest solution would be
for parents and their children to treat each other as friends

They think that it is against social norms
What do young people often do when they face problems?
They share the problems with their parents & They ask their classmates or friends for help
They ask their parents for help
What would be the best way to narrow the generation gap?
Parents and children should try to be friends and understand each other Parents should be tolerant and let children do what they want
Children should follow their parents’ advice

A Better Life for People with Disabilities
By Khai Tam |
Teenagers’ Magazine
Last week the Youth Union leaders interviewed some volunteers who have worked with disabled children They asked them if attitudes and life for these people have changed
Here are some of their responses |
‘| think there is more support for children with disabilities now,’ said Kevin, a grade 11 student ‘There are more special facilities and devices designed to enable people with mobility impairments to travel around There are also new forms of Assistive Technology that can help people with visual and hearing impairments So, | think disabled people can access more places and participate in more activities.’
Hung, the monitor of Class 10A, added, ‘Well, in terms of education, there are more
special schools for children with disabilities, even in developing countries In addition,
there are many schools where disabled and non-disabled students are educated
together This has led to many benefits to both groups and has reduced discrimination
towards people with disabilities.’
When asked about her volunteer experience, Anna from Class 12B said, ‘My volunteer experience has enabled me to understand children with disabilities and the support
they need It has also made me more confident and helped me to realise the difference | can make to other people's lives I’ve also met a lot of talented people with disabilities
who have fulfilling jobs, live independently and contribute to the community.’
“The most important thing is that society's attitudes towards people with disabilities have changed, Anna emphasised ‘People can now join or watch events for athletes
with disabilities such as the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (the FESPIC Games), the Paralympics, or ASEAN Para Games Watching these events is
inspirational as their achievements are amazing.’ She really likes the FESPIC Games’ motto: ‘Overcoming challenges, inspiring others’
According to Kevin, there are now more ways to support people with mobility impairments
Assistive Technology can only help people with visual impairments In Hung's opinion, educating disabled and non-disabled students in the same school leads to discrimination against people with disabilities
Anna has met people who have overcome their disabilities and are
successful in their jobs and lives
Anna thinks that international events for disabled athletes can
