Stress may fall on the first or second syllable -For verbs, adjectives, adverbs or even prepositions that consist of long vowel or dipthong (except /əu/) in the second syllable, stress falls on the second syllable. E.g.arrive, attract, correct, perfect, alone, inside… -But, if the second syllable consists of short vowel or dipthong /əu/ or ending with a consonant, stress falls on the first syllable.
