Identifies whether the IMx Service is running or stopped - 22 SKF @ptitude Analyst Installation Manual IMx Configuration Introduction The SKF Multilog IMx Configurator allows various operations between SKF @ptitude Analyst and the IMx system This tool is the only way to set the network configuration and identification for the IMx You can also view what the IMx is currently measuring, clear measurement data, show current measurement configuration, and synchronize the time between the IMx and the host computer To set up your IMx system for data collection: • Install the IMx hardware Reference your IMx User Manual for details • Identify the computer to run the SKF @ptitude IMx Service You will need this information for the following step • Run SKF IMx Configurator Identify the IP addresses for the IMx and the computer running IMx Service You may need to contact your IT administrator to obtain IP address information Follow the instructions detailed in this chapter • Run the SKF @ptitude Analyst Configuration Tool to add an IMx Service to the system This step is necessary for setting up IMx devices in @ptitude Analyst You may add multiple services on the same computer Reference the Database Configuration section in this manual for details • In @ptitude Analyst, set up your IMx devices, channels, and POINTs Create measurement ROUTEs and download measurement data to the IMx Configuration File Overview A network and configuration file must be downloaded to the IMx to include the IMx as part of a network and to set an identity on the IMx so @ptitude IMx Service knows with which IMx it is communicating This file is a text file with the extension M16 or IMx The file must be created with the configurator and downloaded with the integrated serial interface to the IMx Creating a Configuration File To create a configuration file: • SKF @ptitude Analyst Installation Manual From the Multilog IMx Configurator main menu, click Create a network and ID configuration file for IMx or MasCon16 and save to disk icon 3-1 IMx Configuration Configuration File The Create IMx Config dialog displays Fields are described below: 3-2 • Device type - Type of unit for which you are about to create a network and ID configuration file • Configure by - Defines how the IP address and unit ID of the unit are configured It can be done by DIP Switches on the main board or by software • Device number - Unique identifier required to make @ptitude IMx Service communicate with the IMx Valid settings are 1–255 It is important that this number be unique No two IMxs may share the same unit number It is possible to set the device number to "0 (Hardware)" When setting the device number to 0, the IMx retrieves its device number from the hex switches located on the circuit board The hex switches must be set manually by opening the front case (cover) and turning them with a small screw driver For details, reference your IMx user manual • Obtain an IP address automatically - Allows the system to retrieve the IP address • Use the following IP address - Allows the user to enter information manually SKF Multilog IMx Configurator User Manual IMx Configuration Serial Interface IP number and Subnet mask - Standard settings for all devices communicating with the TCP/IP protocol Configure IP number and subnet mask according to the TCP/IP standard Gateway - Configure according to the TCP/IP standard If no gateway should be used, set it to the default value of 0.0.0.0 • @ IMx Service IP / @ IMx Service port - IP number and port number of the computer where @ptitude IMx Service is installed The IMx needs to know where the server application is in order to send and retrieve data • Ethernet factory defaults - Sets all the values back to the default values • Save - Prompts you about the location where you want to save the file before it begins to save all the changes made You can save the file anywhere on your local hard drive Downloading Downloading is a simple, one-time process accomplished using the serial interface Reference Chapter – Serial Interface for details Serial Interface The serial interface in the configurator contains functions and instructions useful when configuring and performing a service on the IMx It is recommended to run the serial interface from a portable computer with a standard serial cable Getting Started To attach the cable to the IMx: • Connect one end of the serial cable to the RS232 port Connect the other end to a COM port on your computer ¾ Before performing a service or installation in the field, make sure your computer has a COM port On some newer portable computers the COM port has been replaced with a USB port If this is the case, you will need a USB-to-serial converter To start the serial interface: • Start the configurator • From the main menu, click the Start serial interface icon The Serial interface dialog displays SKF @ptitude Analyst Introduction User Manual 3-3 IMx Configuration Serial Interface Using the Serial Interface 3-4 • Select COM port – Indicate a serial port interface for communication • Clear – Click to clear the output window • Lock – Locks / unlocks the contents on the output display window For example, this can be useful if you wish to copy / paste information from the output window • Remove data – Click to delete all measurement data the IMx has collected and stored in the memory For example, you may wish to remove data just after installing an IMx During the installation, a lot of data may have been collected to the IMx while connecting sensors As a general rule, always run this after finishing an installation to make sure incorrect data or data taken under wrong conditions is removed • Update network config - Updates the IMx firmware or sends any other configuration file to the IMx These files most commonly have the extension of M16 or IMx It prompts the user for a file to download • Syntax help - Gives the user access to syntax help in the current prompt Use this interface before downloading any files to ensure you have established communication with the IMx If you not receive access to syntax help, change the COM port and try again If this also fails, reset the IMx with RESET command on the physical IMx, and follow the procedure once more When you receive the syntax help, the IMx is ready to be updated SKF Analyst Thin Client Transfer Thin Client Transfer is a small application that deploys very easily and facilitates data transfer to and from Microlog and MARLIN Data Acquisition Devices (DADs), without using the @ptitude Analyst interface Thin Client Transfer has two modes of communication: Direct communicate with an @ptitude Analyst database – This method provides database communication that allows data to be uploaded to and downloaded from a Microlog or MARLIN DAD from a remote client computer, bypassing the @ptitude Analyst application interface This is done by directly connecting with the @ptitude Analyst database via an optimized connection through the SKF @ptitude Analyst Transaction Server This method requires a connection to the Transaction Server at all locations where Thin Client Transfer is installed File Transfer – This method allows users to transfer data via a file, without requiring a direct connection between the Microlog or MARLIN DAD and the computer hosting @ptitude Analyst This is primarily used when data collection occurs at a remote location without an @ptitude Analyst installation This method requires a connection to the Transaction Server to upload / download to the @ptitude Analyst installation, but does not require a Transaction Server connection to communicate with the DADs A Note About Thin Client Transfer Licenses Thin Client Transfer File CMSW7320 (file transfer mode) and Thin Client Transfer Direct CMSW7321 (direct database communication mode) products are licensed separately Each license specifies the number of remote computers that may upload data to @ptitude Analyst Once you upload data from your DAD, one of the licenses for that upload method is permanently tied to the computer that was used to either perform the upload or generate the upload file Licenses are validated during upload using the Transaction Server to which the Thin Client Transfer installation connects You not need to enter license keys at each location where Thin Client Transfer is installed; rather, licenses are entered using the License Key Manager on the computer hosting the Transaction Server If you have one license key file on your network that is shared by multiple installations of @ptitude Analyst, you may enter the Thin Client Transfer licenses in the License Key Manager at any @ptitude Analyst installation If each installation uses its own license file, you must enter the keys on the computer hosting the Transaction Server referenced by Thin Client Transfer, as specified during the Thin Client Transfer installation procedure ¾ By default, license key files are stored on the local computer If you would like to place a copy of the license key file on the network where it can be shared by multiple installations, use the File / Use SKF @ptitude Analyst Installation Manual 4-1 Installing @ptitude Analyst Thin Client Transfer Serial Interface File… menu option in the License Key Manager at each @ptitude Analyst installation ¾
