line of continuously evolving industrial gas detectors and sensors, the Millennium II, pushes the boundaries of what you can expect from your detectors With state of the art Smart sensors youll receive a detector which is both versatile and reliable for fast, accurate and continuous monitoring of gases in extreme environments THE PRODUCT TRANSMITTER The Millennium II Transmitter can be either single or dual channel It has an explosion-proof housing, rated for use in hazardous applications and was designed to be operated by a single person The user is allowed simple intrusive/nonintrusive calibration, installation, operation and maintenance Depending on the need of the user, the model detector of choice can be Analog, Analog / HART, Relay or digital; the Analog /HART configuration being single channel The transmitter is designed to operate with the Millennium II series sensors (SX3 sensors) and will not operate with other sensors models THE MANUAL This manual has been designed to guide the user through each procedure, ensuring that the detector and sensor is setup, operated and maintained properly Guidelines and warnings are included to help the user in obtaining desired results and to ensure safe and proper functioning of the equipment Refer to the specific sensor manual when calibrating transmitter and sensor(s) If you encounter any problems, see the troubleshooting section of this manual Special conditions of use: M2a-b-c, Millennium II Transmitter with enclosure : In order to maintain the performance of the system to which this instrument is connected to shall also comply with the requirements of EN 61779-1 and EN 61779-4 TX-M2a-b, Millennium II Transmitter Electronic Only (w/o enclosure) : If the Millennium transmitter is Assembly Replace faceplate and tighten locking knobs Replace Housing Cover then power up the unit Figure 3: Rotate PCB Assembly MAN-0076 Rev Millennium II February 19, 2009 Net Safety Monitoring Inc SECTION 2: Wiring 2.1 Field Installation Warning Wiring codes and regulations may vary ATEX requires that supply connection wiring must be rated at least 5C above the maximum ambient temperature of 85C Wiring must comply with all applicable regulations relating to the installation of electrical equipment in a hazardous area and is the responsibility of the installer If in doubt, consult a qualified before wiring the system Warning Do not open the transmitter in a classified area (Do not open when an explosive atmosphere may be present) Guidelines The safety ground connection in the transmitter is a green screw found in the housing If the 20mA signal is not used, connect a jumper between the 20mA terminal and the Common terminal to allow analog current levels to be monitored at the Test Jacks on the faceplate The use of shielded cable is highly recommended for signal, input, output and power wires Shielded wires eliminate interference caused by extraneous electrical or electromagnetic noise To meet IEC 61000-1 and IEC 61000-4 EMI, MILW16878D Type B/N, Multi-Conductor Braid Shield Cable is recommended In applications where the wiring is installed in conduit, the conduit must not be used to support wiring to any other electrical equipment The maximum distance between the sensor and transmitter is limited by the resistance of the connecting wiring, which is a function of the gauge of the wire being used (see Appendix B) When developing a RS-485 chain of devices, the last device in the chain requires end of line termination resistor (120 Ohms) RS-485 connection 2-wire, multipoint serial line 2.1.1 Seals Warning The use of seals is recommended to further protect the system against any unwanted water ingression, and equipment should be installed according to applicable local electrical codes Seals are especially recommended for installations that use high-pressure or steam cleaning devices in proximity to the transmitter and/or sensor The cementing material used on the Millennium II sensors is suitable for an operating temperature range of (-55C to +85 C) Note: Housing stop plugs are not tightened by the manufacturer when shipped The user should apply a sealing compound on the threads and the plug securely tightened to the housing Guidelines It is recommended that explosion-proof drains and conduit breathers be used In some applications, alternate changes in temperature and barometric pressure can cause breathing which allows moist air to enter and circulate inside the conduit Joints in the conduit system are seldom tight enough to prevent this breathing Threaded connections on the enclosure between the housing and conduit pipe need to be sealed with thread tape, such as Teflon tape, or something similar MAN-0076 to damage the flameproof joints in the process 2G/D Ambient Temperature Range: -50C to +70C (T5 = +40C) 6) Beacon Location and Mounting The location of the beacons should be made with due regard to the area over which the warning signal must be visible They should only be fixed to services that can carry the weight of the unit SAFETY W ARNING: The BExBG15E and BExBG10E 15 and 10 joule beacons must be mounted with their flashdome in a position between upright and 90 as shown 90 Note the four M6 screws are Class A4-80 stainless steel and only screws of this category can be used on the beacons It is therefore important that these screws and their spring washers are kept in a safe place during installation On completion of the output mode setting or the fitting of the end of line resistor, the flameproof joints should be inspected to ensure that they are clean and that they have not been damaged Also check that the earth bonding wire between the two casting sections is secure and that the O ring seal is in place When replacing the terminal chamber section casting, ensure that it is square with the flameproof chamber casting before inserting Carefully push the section in place allowing time for the air to be expelled Only after the section is fully in place should the four M6 Stainless Steel A4-80 cover bolts and their spring washers be inserted and tightened down If the section jams while it is being inserted, carefully remove it and try again Never use the M6 cover bolts to force the cover into position The beacons should be securely bolted to a suitable surface using the 7mm diameter boltholes in the stainless steel U shaped mounting bracket (see figure 1) The angle can then be adjusted as required but the mounting restrictions must be observed (see above) This can be achieved by loosening the two large bracket screws in the side of the unit, which allow adjustment in steps of 18 On completion of the installation the two large bracket adjustment screws on the side of the unit must be fully tightened to ensure that the unit cannot move in service Flameproof Chamber off M6 Cover Screws Increased Safety Chamber off M4 Cover Screws SAFETY WARNING: The level The current levels shown above are for nominal input voltage The 12V, 24V and 48V DC units have a converter circuit and therefore the input current level will decrease slightly as the input voltage in increased and will increase slightly as the input voltage is reduced The above table also shows the maximum voltages at which the beacons can be operated 10) Cable Selection When selecting the cable size consideration must be given to the input current that each unit draws (see table above), the number of beacons on the line and the length of the cable runs The cable size selected must have the necessary capacity to provide the input current to all of the beacons connected to the line SAFETY WARNING: If the BExBG15E and BExBG10E beacons are used at high ambient temperatures, i.e over +40C, then the cable entry temperature may exceed +70C and therefore suitable heat resisting cables must be used, with a rated service temperature of at least 110C When using the external earth terminal a cable crimp lug must be used The cable lug should be located between the two M5 stainless steel flat washers The M5 stainless steel spring washer must be fixed between the outer flat washer and the M5 stainless steel nut to ensure that the cable lug is secured against loosening and twisting The internal earth bonding wire ensures that a good quality earth is maintained between the flameproof chamber casting and the flameproof cover casting 12) Cable Glands The BExBG15E and BExBG10E beacons have dual cable gland entries which have an M20 x1.5 entry Only cable glands approved for Ex e applications or better (i.e Ex d applications, provided they have an IP rating of IP 54 or better) can be used They must be suitable for the type of cable to be used and also meet the requirements of the Ex equipment installation standards EN60079-14:2008 / IEC60079-14:2007 When only one cable entry is used the other one must be closed with an Ex e blanking plug, which must be header pins on the electronics board, i.e the two header pins are shorted together (see figure 4), on one of the two beacons being used The two beacons will then flash alternately every ẵ a second line monitoring can be used if required All DC units have a blocking diode fitted in their supply input lines An end of line monitoring diode or an end of line monitoring resistor can be connected across the +ve and ve terminals in the flameproof chamber Note monitoring components must not be connected to the terminal block in the Increased Safety terminal chamber See section of this instruction manual for access to the flameproof enclosure If an end of line resistor is used it must have a minimum resistance value of 3k3 ohms and a minimum wattage of 0.5 watts or a minimum
