2015-2016 FHSAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee SPRING MEETING FRIDAY, MARCH 11, 2016 Welcome! Section Representatives Section Representatives • Tanner Adkison, Godby (Tallahassee) • • Keara Bogart, Walton (DeFuniak Springs) Natalie Chapman, Northside Christian (St Petersburg) • Chris Lehman, Manatee (Bradenton) • Angel Boyance, Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) • Tyler Lopes, Seacrest Country Day (Naples) • Jurian Edelenbos, Fleming Island • Sofia Wajner, Palmetto Ridge (Naples) Section Representatives • Lauren Cameron, Trinity Prep (Winter Park) • Austin Keil, Father Lopez (Daytona Beach) • Kinley Rogers, Trinity Catholic (Ocala) • Alexandra Romanello, Nease (Ponte Vedra) Section Representatives • Andrew Ferguson, Nova (Davie) • Gabriella Gonzalez, Miami Sunset • Sydney Konrath, Marathon • Igancio Ortega, Archimedean (Miami) Icebreaker Silent Hints •Divide into three teams of six •Place printed scenes on the wall and give teams the box of material Explain Rules •Each team sends a representative who will see the printed picture •The representatives then go to the wall and examine the picture for 30 seconds •After, they go to their teams and give them hints to recreate the scene but the representatives CANNOT talk Only the team can •The team who recreates the scene the fastest and most accurate wins In the event that two teams tie with speed, the most accurate wins •*Reps can be given (1) another 15-20 second peek at the picture* SAAC Mission Statement “We work to represent the best interests of all student-athletes by presenting their concerns to the FHSAA, thereby developing initiatives for future improvement Our goal is to promote the advancement of sportsmanship and integrity by fostering an ethical, safe, competitive environment on and off the field.” 2015-2016 SAAC Initiatives Promoting sportsmanship through the Sunshine State Spirit Showdown Help FHSAA member schools be involved in the community and assist student-athletes in gaining community service hours through helping homeless families, special needs programs and veterans Increase recognition and support for all sports Today’s Agenda & Goals Selection of the Sunshine State Spirit Showdown winner Creation of a website that provides studentathletes and FHSAA member schools with resources and ideas to be more involved in their community Work together to create social media posts to assist student-athletes, FHSAA member schools and followers increase recognition for all sports Facilitative Leadership – Working as a Group Everyone needs to be heard Respect all other opinions Agree to Disagree Reach your objectives Work with timelines Bring a problem, bring a solution Sunshine State Spirit Showdown Selecting a Winner! DISCUSSION LED BY QUINTEN ERSHOCK OBJECTIVE: WATCH AND REVIEW VIDEO SUBMISSIONS TO DECIDE ON A WINNER OF THE SUNSHINE STATE SPIRIT SHOWDOWN Sunshine State Spirit Showdown: Overview Videos must be between 90 seconds and minutes Must also include at least 30 seconds of discussion about why school should be winner Cheers must be positive Sportsmanship is the overall goal for this program Submission videos were sent to FHSAA by February and YouTube playlist is created with all of the submissions Videos that meet the requirements will be uploaded to FHSAA social media Fans will be encouraged to watch all videos and vote on favorites using Survey Monkey link on social media sites Sunshine State Spirit Showdown: Choosing a Winner Fans will be encouraged to watch all videos and vote on favorites using Survey Monkey link on social media sites Fan votes will be divided by school population and the resulting percentage will determine how many of the ten possible bonus points the school will receive to keep competition fair amongst large schools and small schools SAAC makes final decision on winner which will be determined based on the following criteria: Positive sportsmanship Student body & community participation School spirit Originality of cheers Organization of the group and student body Overall fun How well did the school follow guidelines Social media votes Sunshine State Spirit Showdown Third Annual School Spirit Competition Entries: “Kenny Pride” by Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) “Lightning Lunatics” by Cypress Bay (Weston) Fort Walton Beach Manatee Mandarin (Jacksonville) Merritt Island “Knightmares” by Oakleaf (Orange Park) “Posse Baby” by River Ridge (New Port Richey) Sunshine State Spirit Showdown: Your Task – Selecting a Winner • Rate videos in each distinct category on a – rating scale • being low, being high • To keep the contest fair between large schools and small schools • Fan votes will be divided by school population based on 2014-2015 school year • The resulting percentage will determine how many of ten possible bonus points a school will receive • Bonus points will be added to the overall score • Fan votes are only used to enhance the score provided by the SAAC evaluation • Winner will receive banner and plaque from FHSAA at a pep rally hosted by winning school Sunshine State Spirit Showdown: Watch & Rate Videos 2016 Sunshine State Spirit Showdow n And the winner is…… Communit y Service DISCUSSION LED BY SHANELLE BENJAMIN OBJECTIVES: CREATE WEBSITE WITH RESOURCES THAT MEMBER SCHOOLS CAN UTILIZE TO BE MORE INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY AND ASSIST STUDENT-ATHLETES GAIN COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS Committing to Community Involvement Discussion: How to encourage community involvement at the local level?
