Jeremiah 9:23-24 23 Thus says the Lord: "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; 24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth For in these I delight," says the Lord The Christian • is called to live above the world’s way of living • is called to choose better than the world’s choices • is called to oppose the world’s wrong • is called to illuminate in the world’s darkness TO A GREAT EXTENT OUR EVERYDAY CHOICES DEFINE US! IS JESUS PLEASED WITH OUR CHOICE • • • • • IN CLOTHING IN SPEECH IN PLACES TO GO IN FRIENDSHIP IN CAREERS “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” JAMES 4:4 IS JESUS PLEASED WITH OUR CHOICE • • • • • Do not be deceived: "Evil IN CLOTHING company corrupts good IN SPEECH habits.“ IN PLACES TO GO CORINTHIANS 15:33 IN FRIENDSHIP IN CAREERS IS JESUS PLEASED WITH OUR CHOICE • • • • • IN CLOTHING IN SPEECH IN PLACES TO GO IN FRIENDSHIP IN CAREERS GANGS DEFIANT PEOPLE IMMORAL PEOPLE IS JESUS PLEASED WITH OUR CHOICE • • • • • IN CLOTHING IN SPEECH IN PLACES TO GO IN FRIENDSHIP IN CAREERS “Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.” EPHESIANS 4:28 IS JESUS PLEASED WITH OUR CHOICE • • • • • BARTENDER IN CLOTHING DEFENSE LAWYER IN SPEECH FOR THE GUILTY, IN PLACES TO GO UNSCRIPTURAL IN FRIENDSHIP DIVORCED, ETC BEER TRUCK DRIVER IN CAREERS TOBACCO GROWER WINERY BEAR GOOD FRUIT IN YOUR CHOICES! • Rather than dress immodest, dress with shamefacedness (Extremely modest, shy, bashful) • Rather than use foul speech, speak to edify • Rather than be entertained with sin – Select a wholesome movie or play – Go to a game, rodeo, camping trip, fishing trip, etc • Seek Christian friendships • Seek employment that will not temp you to compromise your faith FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT VS WORKS OF THE FLESH • Galatians 5:19-21 • One can see how different the works of the flesh are from the fruit of the Spirit HOSEA 4:1-2 Hear the word of the Lord, You children of Israel, For the Lord brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: "There is no truth or mercy or knowledge of God in the land By swearing and lying, killing and stealing and committing adultery, They break all restraint, With bloodshed upon bloodshed HOW CAN WE BEAR FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT? • Be willing to know the Spirit’s word • Holy Spirit to the Apostles • Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God HOW CAN WE BEAR FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT? • Be willing to know the Spirit’s word – Natural Man does not received the Holy Spirit the same as the Apostles – We must study God’s word HOW CAN WE BEAR FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT? • Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth HOW CAN WE BEAR FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT? • Obey the commandment of being baptized • Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ HOW CAN WE BEAR FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT? • Walk in the Spirit Galatians 5:16-18 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot the things that ye would 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law The Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control Against such there is no law The Fruit of the Spirit What about you today?
