Descriptive Adjectives

1 Vị trí của tính từ:

a/ Đứng trước danh từ

Ex: My best friend is a responsible and honest girl

b/ Đứng sau các động từ như: be, become, look, get, seem, appear

Ex: Na is both sociable and kind

2 Thứ tự của tính từ:

opinion (quan điểm) + size (kích thước + quality (tính chất) + age (tuổi) + shape (hình

dáng) + color (màu sắc) + participle form (phân từ dùng như tính từ: V-ing/ V-ed) + origin

(nguồn gốc) + material (vật liệu) + type (loại) + purpose (mục đích)

Ex: I have an old wooden table

II The Present Progressive Tense

Diễn tả một hành động đang xảy ra trong lúc nói (now, at the moment, at this time, at

present….)

Ex: - I am looking for the latest newspaper now

- They are watching a sport game show at the moment

3 Note: Một số động từ không dùng ở thì Present Progressive, mà chỉ dùng ở thì

Present Simple: to be, to want, to need, to have (có), to know, to understand, to seem …

Ex: - We are tenth-grade students now

- I understand the lesson at the moment

III The Present Perfect Tense

1 Form S + has/have +V3/ed…

2 Use

a Diễn tả một hành động xảy ra trong quá khứ và kéo dài đến hiện tại (never, ever,

not…yet, since, for, so far, until now, up to now,…….)

Ex: We have learnt English for 5 years

b Diễn tả một hành động vừa mới xảy ra (just, recently, lately)

Ex: She has just gone out

c Diễn tả một hành động xảy ra trong quá khứ không xác định rõ thời gian (already,

before)

Ex: Have you seen this movie before?

3 Notes:

a/ This is the …… time + S + has/have + V3/ed…

Ex: This is the first time I have studied in this school

b/ S + has/have +V3/ed…… since + S + V2/ed…

Ex: We have known each other since we worked in that factory

IV The Past Simple Tense

V The Past Progessive Tense

a Diễn tả một hành động xảy ra vào một thời điểm xác định trong quá khứ

Ex: She was studying her lesson at 7 oclock last night

b Diễn tả một hành động đang xảy ra ở quá khứ (was/ were + V-ing) thì có một hành

động khác xen vào (V2/ed)

Ex: - He was sleeping when I came

- While my mother was cooking dinner, the phone rang

c Diễn tả hai hành động đang xảy ra song song cùng lúc trong quá khứ

Ex: While I was doing my homework, my younger brother was playing video games

VI The Past Perfect Tense

1 Form S + had + V3/ed…

2 Use

a Diễn tả một hành động xảy ra trước một thời điểm trong quá khứ

Ex: By the end of last month, she had made 4 shirts

b Diễn tả một hành động xảy ra và hoàn thành trước một hành động khác trong quá

khứ (before, after, by the time) Hành động xảy ra trước dùng thì Past Perfect, hành động

xảy ra sau dùng thì Past Simple

Ex: - After Nam had done his homework, he went to bed

- They had lived in Dong Thap before they moved to HCM city

B Linking Words

Các từ liên kết như: and, or, but, either or , neither nor

1 Dùng để liên kết hai danh từ

Ex: Either you or Nam goes to the store

B INFINITIVE WITH TO - ĐỘNG TỪ NGUYÊN MẪU CÓ “TO” (TO INFINITIVE)

Chúng ta có thể dùng động từ nguyên thể có “to” sau các động từ :

Offer: tặng, đề nghị Decide: quyết định Hope: hi vọng

Deserve: xứng đáng Attempt: toan tính Promise: hứa hẹn

Intend: dự định Agree: đồng ý Plan: dự định / lên kế hoạch

Aim: nhằm mục đích Afford: cố gắng Manage: xoay sở

Threaten: đe dọa Forget: quên Refuse: Từ chối

Arranae: sắp đặt Learn: học Need:: cần

Fail: thất bại Mean: có nghĩa là Seem: dường như

Appear: xuất hiện Tend: có khuynh hướng Pretend: giả vờ

Claim: khẳng định

E.g: - It was late, so we decided to take a taxi home

(Lúc đó đã trễ, nên chúng tôi quyết định đi tắc-xi về nhà)

David was in a difficult situation, so I agreed to lend him some money

(David đang gặp khó khăn, nên tôi đồng ý cho anh ấy vay tiền)

Ở thể phủ định - negative thêm not vào trước to infinitive:

E.g: - We decided not to go out because of the weather

(Chùng tôi đã quyết định không đi chơi vì thời tiết xấu.)

- I promised not to be late (Tôi đã hứa sẽ không về muộn.)

- CÁCH SỬ DỤNG

1 Sau tính từ

E.g: - It's nice to have a day-off (Thật vui khi được nghỉ một ngày.)

- The small shop is really easy to run (Cửa hàng nhỏ này thật dễ quản lý.)

2 Sau danh từ

E.g: -I must take a book to read (= a book that I can read)

(Tôi phải lấy một cuốn sách để đọc.) (= Cuốn sách mà tôi có thể đọc)

- We've got a few jobs to do ( = jobs that we must do)

3 Với “be able to”, “be about to”, “be allowed lo”, “be going to", “have to”, “ought to”

và “used to"

E.g: We aren't allowed to fish here

7 Sau từ nghi vấn

E.g: - We don't know where to set tickets (Chúng tôi không biết mua vé nơi nào)

(Sách này chi cho bạn cách nấu món ăn Việt Num.)

8 Nói lên lý do làm việc gì

E.g: - Martin went out to play football with his colleagues

(Martin ra ngoài chơi bóng đá với các đồng nghiệp.)

- I need money to pay the mobile phone's bill

(Tôi cần tiền để trả hoá đơn điện thoại di động.)

C INFINITIVE WITHOUT TO - ĐỘNG TỪ NGUYÊN MẪU KHÔNG “TO”

Chúng ta sử dụng động từ nguyên mầu không có “to”:

1 Sau can, could, mav, might, must, needn’t, shall, should, will, and would

E.g: - We could go to an Enulish speaking club

(Chúng ta có thể đi đến câu lạc bộ nói tiếng Anh.)

(Susan sẽ xa nhà trong vài ngày.)

2 Sau “had better” và “would rather”

E.g: - It's raining You‘d better wear a raincoat

(Tôi thich nghe Jennifer Lopez hơn Britney Spears.)

3 Sau “make + túc từ” và “let + túc từ"

E.g: - That play was funny It really made me laught a lot

(Vở kịch đó thật hài hước Nó thực sự khiến tôi cười rất nhiều.)

- Terry will be here at noon His boss is going to let him leave work early

(Terry sẽ có mặt ở đây vào buổi trưa Ông chủ của cậu ấy sẽ cho cậu ấy về sớm hơn.)

4 Sau “hear/ see + túc từ”

E.g: - They saw the lights flash (Họ thấy ánh đèn lóe lên)

- We all heard the bomb go off' (Tất cả chúng tôiđều nghe thấy quả bom phát nổ.)

D ĐỘNG TỪ HELP

Động từ nguyên mẫu sau động từ “help” có thể có “to" hoặc không có “to”

E.g: Can I help (to) make tea? (Tôi có thể giúp pha trà được không?)
