LEVELS 3 – 5 PART I: SOCIAL INTERACTION (~ 3 mins)

Examiner speaking: Hello, this is the English proficiency test - the speaking test,

levels 3 to 5 The speaking test consists of three parts

The first part is social interaction In this part, I will ask you questions about you and

everyday situations, such as work, hobbies and family

The second part is solution discussion In the second part, you will be given a situation

with three options You have to choose one and explain your choice

The third part is topic development In this part, you will first have a talk on a given

topic, then you will have to answer follow-up questions

Now, the test begins

Let’s talk about schools

Examiner speaking: What were your favourite subjects/lessons at school and why?

I enjoyed studying maths because I really like working with numbers and calculation Apart from maths, English was also my favourite subject since we had a lot of fun during the lessons

Examiner speaking: What is an ideal teacher like for you?

To my mind, an ideal teacher has to good qualification, good characteristic such as love teaching, love students, care about students… and especially be ready to further study to enhance their knowledge

Examiner speaking: What are some of the best memories of your school years?

Well, I have a lot of best memories in high school I took the first award for the singing contest and have a boyfriend after that

I’d like to be a doctor like my mother because I want to help a lot of people, especially sick people

Actually I always want to be self –employed because I want to be independent and don’t be controlled by others

No Actually, I have never had a summer job But maybe I try this summer because I heard that a part time job is very useful for the future job

Part II In this part of the speaking test, you will be given a situation with THREE options You have to choose ONE to argue on You will have to say which option you

will follow and explain why You will also have to say why you haven't chosen the

other two options You have ONE minute to prepare your talk and TWO minutes to talk Here is the situation

Situation: Your local council has been allocated money to add one new

entertainment facility to the community in your area Decide which one you would choose

There are THREE options for you to choose:

- A sports centre

- A park with a lake

- A children’s playground

In my opinion, it should be a park with a beautiful lake because, you know, in my town there are a lot of private sport centres and children’s playgrounds Firstly, having

a park will make a town beautiful Secondly, people can go there to relax or do morning exercises or just to see the lake Finally, people of all ages can come to the park to entertain themselves by different ways, not just children or the youngsters In short, I believe/think a park with a lake would be the best option

In this part of the speaking test, you will have to present on a topic that you will see in the outline below After your presentation, you will be asked THREE follow-up questions related to the topic You have ONE minute to prepare and THREE minutes

to complete this part Here is the outline of the topic

Topic: Disadvantages of tourist developments

- Why do you think people like to travel to different places in their free time?

- Should your government invest more money in attracting tourists?

- How do you see tourism changing in your country in the future?

Presentation: Tourist development has a lot of disadvantages First, there are a number of ugly hotels complexes because of their degradations Second, another problem due to tourist development is destruction of natural habitat Finally, it also destroys traditional ways of life For example, a peaceful environment nowadays is replaced by noisy resorts, so the way of life has to change too In conclusion, Tourist development has cause a lot of troubles such as ugly hotels complexes, destruction of natural habitat and destruction of traditional ways of life

People like to travel to different places in their free time because each place has famous tourist destinations and people want to discover them

Yes, of course Because tourist is one of the most important part of economy which contributes to increase GDP

I think tourism in the future will be invested more and change in a positive way

I think using local television and leaflets take me a lot of money and time to advertise Instead, I will use websites to advertise the play because of several reasons First, today Internet is available almost everywhere It is very easy for people to access to the Internet using their smart phones, iPads or laptops Second, I have an own page so

I will put the advertisement about the play on my page and share it everyone thorough

a click It is very convenient and quite cheap To sum up, in my opinion, using websites to advertise is the best choice

Presentation: There are a lot of solutions to improve educational systems Firstly, revised curriculum and text books should be used in schools because we need to use a suitable curriculum for children and revised text books instead of wrong and uninteresting ones like in the present Secondly, they also need to improve facilities in schools such as standard desks and tables or modern equipment of teachings… Thirdly, another way to improve educational systems is that teacher has to improve their knowledge and professional In brief, solutions to improving educational systems include revised curriculum and text, improved facilities and better teachers

I think good education is important both for a boy and a girl Because both of them need to fully develop their knowledge and the way to treat other people

I think the most effective way to protect environment is educating the people on the environment If people fully understand about the serious consequences of their

actions to the environment such as throwing rubbish on the streets, smoking, and so son, they will control their actions better Singapore is a good example of green environment and the key is people’s good awareness towards environment Putting recycle bins in public places is not a good idea because, as we all know, although there are a lot of recycle bins everywhere people still put rubbish into the road Moreover, planting trees does not help very much since it cannot solve the environmental problems fully In conclusion, people should be educated on the environment

There are many reasons for not having children First of all, having children means that you have too much responsibility Then, the cost of living will be significantly high because of their clothes, their food… Next, you don’t have free time because of taking care for your children To sum up, too much responsibility, high cost and no freedom are factors for not having baby

First children should learn how to greet the adult people whenever they meet someone And it is convenient to teach at home because they will be remarkable affected by their parents
