1 TEMPLE OF LITERATURE – IMPERIAL ACADEMY COMPLEX Temple of literature- imperial academy complex includes: Literature Lake, Van Mieu- Quoc Tu Giam area, with total square is 54 331 square meters Temple of literature – imperial academy complex is not only characteristic of Oriental architecture but also bear- imprint of Vietnamese Culture LITERATURE LAKE In front of Temple of Literature is Van Lake with 12 247 square meters in area, in the middle of the lake is Kim Chau Mound , where occured many Literature and Poetry’s declaimation of Confucian scholar ancient imperial city Afterwards, under the French Ocupation, pillars was divided with Van Lake by crossing Quoc Tu Giam street VAN MIEU GREAT PORTICO 3A In the front of Van Mieu Great Portico is pillars and Ha Ma stelaes pillars were built with bricks, pillars in the middle were built higher, obove is flanking young lions, meanings distinct between honest and cruel people pillars outside was covered with phoenixs whose spread wings and fold tails one another It’s a kind of popular decoration was seen in pavilions Ha Ma stelaes meaning: inspite of being high up in the hierarchy who even riding a horse, they must off the horse to pay respect 3B There- door temple gate of Van Mieu- Quoc Tu Giam are high floors , rooves opened – door which symbolized for Buddha’s outlook about worlds: the past- the simple- and the future Above 3- door were coverd with a picture : “ dragons flanking the moon”, sympolized of the praying for rain belief which characteristicd of submefged grown rice culture
