THE CONDITIONAL SENTENCES (CÂU ĐIỀU KIỆN) * Note: - Câu điều kiện có 02 mệnh đề Là mệnh đề ĐK MĐC ( mệnh đề ĐK If - ) - Khi mệnh đề ĐK đứng phía trước MĐC phải có dấy ( , ) phân tách câu Khi mệnh đề If đứng sau dấu ( , ) Type 1: Là câu điều kiện có thật  Nghĩa tình giả định xảy tương lai If - clause If + Clause (ở đơn) + S + V / V s(es) - S + don’t / doesn’t + V * Ngoài ta dùng khác như: HTTD, HTHT, ĐT khuyết thiếu ( can, must, need, may ) Main - clause S + Clause ( tương lai đơn ) + S + will + V - S + won’t + V ? (Wh) + will + S + V ? * Ngoài ta dùng động từ khuyết thiếu như: can / may / must / need Eg: If I find her address, I will send her an invitation If Mary doesn’t feel better tomorrow, she will see a doctor If I have free time, I will phone you * Chú ý: Đảo ngữ ĐK1  ta dùng Should làm từ đảo ngữ: [ Should + S + V , MĐ ] Eg If she has free time, I will help me this work  Should she have free time, I will help me this work Type 2: Là câu điều kiện thật  Nghĩa tình giả định xảy trái If - clause If + Clause ( khứ đơn ) + S + Ved / Vcột - S + didn’t + V * Nếu dùng với động từ Be  ta sử dụng Were Main - clause + S + would / could / should / might + V - S + not + V ? ( Wh ) + would / could + S + V ? Eg: If I were you, I would tell the truth If she knew your address, she would send you a letter I don’t study well, so I get bad marks on class ( câu tình )  If I studied well, I wouldn’t get bad marks on class * Chú ý: Đảo ngữ ĐK  ta dùng Were làm từ đảo ngữ, có trường hợp: a Với động từ Be: Were + S + O, MĐ viết lại eg If I were you, I would tell the truth  Were I you, If I were rich, I would help you  Were I rich, b Với V thường: Were + S + to V , MĐ viết lại eg If she knew your address, she would send you a letter  Were she to know your address, Type 3: Là câu điều kiện thật khứ  Nghĩa tình giả định không xảy khứ - trái khứ If - clause Main - clause If + S + had + PII/ Ved S + would / could / should + have + PII /Ved (Nếu có not thêm not sau had: hadn’t + P.P) (wouldn’t / couldn’t + have + PII / Ved) Eg: If I had known the answer, I would have told her.(Nếu biết câu trả lời nói với cô ấy) I would have gotten the scholarship if I had studied harder.(Tôi có học bổng học hành chăm hơn) Type 4: Loại kết hợp /  Nghĩa tình giả định vừa trái QK, vừa trái HT If – clause ( ) Main – clause ( ) If + S + had + PII/ Ved S + would / could / should + V Eg: If I hadn’t stayed up late last night, I wouldn’t be so tired now (*Chú ý: Thường có ADV cùng) I did not study last night, so I get bad mark on class today  If I had studied last night, I would not get bad mark on class today Những cách khác để diễn đạt câu điều kiện: a Unless = If….not(Trừ phi, nếu…không) If you don’t work hard, you can’t earn enough money for your living.(Nếu bạn không chăm bạn không đủ tiến để sinh sống) = Unless you work hard, you can’t earn enough money for your living b Suppose / Supposing (giả sử như), in case (trong trường hợp), even if (ngay khi, cho dù), as long as, so long as, provided (that), on condition (that) (miễn là, với điều kiện là) Suppose the news is true, what will you do?(Giả sử tin tức bạn làm gì?) I’ll change my decision provided that you accept my offer.(Tôi thay đổi định bạn chấp nhận đề nghị tôi) In case I forget, please remind me of my promise.(Trong trường hợp quên làm ơn nhắc nhỡ lời hứa tôi) c Without: Without water, life wouldn’t exist.(Nếu nước, sống không tồn tại) = If there were no water, life wouldn’t exist Note: Có thể diễn tả câu điều kiện mà không cần dùng if hay unless cách đảo chủ ngữ sau should, were, had (Không làm với động từ khác) Were I rich, I would help you = If I were rich, I would help you Had I known her, I would have made friend with her = If I had known her, I would have made friend with her If you should run into Peter, tell him to call me = Should you run into Peter, tell him to call me Có thể kết hợp điều kiện điều kiện câu(Câu điều kiện pha trộn) Ex: If I hadn’t stayed up late last night, I wouldn’t be so tired now (Kinh nghiệm: Thường có trạng từ theo) You wouldn’t be so hungry if you had had breakfast this morning.(Kinh nghiệm: Hoặc không cho trạng từ ta dịch tình huống) Đôi đơn dùng cho hai mệnh đề câu điều kiện để diễn tả thật hiển nhiên; gọi zero conditional Ex: If we don’t water these flowers, they die.(Nếu không tưới nước cho chúng chết) Mệnh đề câu điều kiện loại câu đề nghị lời mời(Động từ mệnh lệnh) Ex: If you are wrong, I am right (Nếu bạn sai đúng) If you see Peter at the meeting, please tell him to return my book.(Nếu bạn gặp Peter cược họp bảo anh gửi lại cho sách) If you are free now, have a cup of coffee with me.(Nếu bạn rảnh uống cà-fê với tôi) Đổi từ if sang unless: IF UNLESS Khẳng định Khẳng định (động từ mệnh đề đổi sang phủ định) Phủ định Khẳng định (mệnh đề không thay đổi) Ex: If it had more rain, my crop would grow faster → Unless it had more rain, my crop wouldn’t grow faster.(Nếu trời không mưa nhiều mùa vụ không tăng trưởng nhanh hơn) If she doesn’t work harder, she will fail the exam → Unless she works harder, she will fail the exam.(Nếu cô không chăm cô hỏng kiểm tra) Dạng câu: Mệnh lệnh + or + Clause - If you don’t + V1, Clause - If you aren’t + …, Clause Ex: Go away or I will call the police → If you don’t go away, I will call the police.(tự dịch) Be careful or you will cut yourself → If you aren’t careful, you will cut yourself.(tự dịch) Dạng câu: Do you mind if I… Would you mind if I… To be = were(Không dùng was) Do you mind/Would you mind + V-ing Do you mind if I + Vinf Would you mind if I + Vpast simple Ex1: A: Would you mind sitting in the front seat of the taxi? B: No problem Ex2: A: Would you mind if I took a photo? B: Not at all Ex3: A: Do you mind if I sit down? B: Please Cấu trúc: As if/As though S1 + Vpresent simple + As if/As though + S2 + Vpast simple S1 + Vpast simple + As if/As though + S2 + Vpast perfect Ex1: The old lady dresses as if it were winter even in the summer He acts as though he were rich He talks as if he knew everything in the world Ex2: Jeff looked as though he had seen a ghost She talked about the contest as if she had won the grand prize
