Pompeii The ancient Roman town of Pompeii sat at the foot of the giant volcano Vesuvius in southern Italy The

town and the volcano had lived peacefully side by side for years Pompeii’s citizens lived a good life Their

theaters, shops, and temples were filled with activity All this ended on August 24th

in the year 79 A.D

At about noon on August 24th

other nearby towns Soon, the roofs of Pompeii were covered with a layer of volcanic material that was

In the 1800s, students in England’s colleges and universities became obsessed with the game once
