TRƯỜNG THPT LỘC HƯNG UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS READING AIM: UNIT 8: Reading a passage of 250 CELEBRATIONS –300 words for general and specific infor m ation OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson students will be able to - know more about one of the traditional Vietnamese festivals - Use words and expressions related to festivals - improve reading skill through true- false sentences and comprehension questions UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS • Teaching aids: whiteboard, pictures showing activities people often during Tet holidays, computer, overhead projector etc PRE- READING ACTIVITIES WARM - UP The teacher asks students to listen to the song and then answer the following questions 1) What is the title of the song? 2) When and why people often sing it? 3) What is it about? − Students answer Suggested Answers 1) HAPPY NEW YEAR 2) On the last days of the old year and at the beginning of the new year To welcome to the new year 3) the feelings about the old year and the new year       −         T: − The teacher presents new vocabulary − The teacher asks students to look at the picture on page 12 and answer the questions about it − Students answer them   The teacher asks students to look at the picture on page 90 and then work in pairs to answer question 1.What time of the year is it? Tet, The Vietnamese lunar New year The teacher asks students to look at the picture again and says: “Look at the picture again This is a Vietnamese family on new year’s day There are six people: the grandparents, the parents and the two children What are they doing?” The grand mother is giving her grand children lucky money inside red envelopes What else you see in the picture?
