UNIT FOUR SPECIAL EDUCATION Period 21 SPEAKING Aims : Objectives: Through teaching speaking to talk about school life. By the end of the lesson, pupils are able to talk about their school life and actively engage in an interview Development for Speaking skill and three integrated skills : Listening, Reading and Writing. Skills: Lexical items : Teaching aids : Handouts, cassette, textbook, flipcharts. PROCEDURE I/ WARM-UP : ( 5 min ) * Game : Networks ( Make a list of words relating to "School" ) School  Lead-in: Ss are asked to answer the questions about their work at school. 1. What is your timetable? 2. What are your subjects? Which do you like best? Why? 3. What about homework? 4. What do you like best about your school? II/ PRE- SPEAKING : ( 10 min ) 1. Vocabulary : upper- secondary School ( n ) lower- secondary School (n) oral test (n) break (n) final examination (n) 2. Checking vocabulary : ROR 3. Task 1 : Choose a suitable question for each situation of the following interview Feedback A/ 4 B/ 1 C/ 2 D/ 6 E/ 3 F/ 5 G/ 7 III/ WHILE- SPEAKING : ( 18 min ) Activity 1 : Practise asking and answering follow the interview. -T introduces the requirement of the task -T asks Ss to do the task in pairs. Teacher walks around the class and offers help when necessary. -Feedback Interviewer 1.Which lower-secondary school did you go to? 2.What were the subjects then? 3. What was your timetable? 4.Can you tell me about the tests and examinations at your school then? 5. What about homework? 6. What part of the school life didn’t you like? Hanh -I went to Long Bien Lower- Secondary School in Gia Lam, Ha Noi. - My subjects were Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Biology, History, Geography, English, and Information Technology. -Well, I went to school in the morning and I often had five classes. -We had different kinds of tests, you know. Oral tests, Fifteen-minute tests, Forty-five-minute tests and the final examination at the end of the semester. - It’s different with every teachers. Some liked to give a lot of homework and others didn’t. - To be honest, I liked my school a lot but if I could change one thing, it would be the breaks between the classes. They were to short. - I liked everything in my school, you know. Well of course, not the breaks as I‘ve said. I liked my teachers, my friends and different activities at school then. 7. What did you like best about your school then? Activity 2 : Activity 3: Use the questions of " Task 1 " to interview your partner. Tell the whole class what you know about your partner. III/ POST- SPEAKING : ( 8 min ) Game Sentence Transformation ( work in groups of four ) * Instruction: Student: 1 Student: 2 Student: 3 Student: 4 Student: 1 " I study at Huong Thuy High School. " He said he studied at Huong Thuy High School. " I like Maths most. " He said he liked Maths most. " I have five classes a week. " He said he had five classes a week. " I don't go to school by bus .
