Incorporate the features of an Allen-Bradley
pro-grammable controller without installing new I/O
The I/O Saver Rail Interface module lets you control field devices that
are connected to a Reliance AutoMate® I/O with an Allen-Bradley
programmable controller The I/O Saver module resides as an adapter
on the Allen-Bradley Remote I/O link You can convert your Rail I/O
system into an Allen-Bradley remote I/O link by simply replacing the
AutoMate Remote I/O Heads with I/O Saver modules There is no need
to replace I/O modules and field wiring
Benefits
• Easy-to-use I/O conversion process
• Integration of Reliance Electric and
• Allen-Bradley control systems
• Significant cost savings over new
• I/O systems
Helps save I/O wiring costs and system start-up
time
Because the I/O Saver module is designed like a Remote I/O Head,
you can replace existing Remote I/O Heads with the I/O Saver module
The I/O Saver has the same form factor as existing Remote I/O Heads
and has four ports that can be used to connect to any of the following
AutoMate I/O:
• Digital Rails
• Analog Rails
• Local Head modules
• LED modules
• Thumbwheel switch modules
By connecting four Local Head modules to the I/O Saver module, the
I/O Saver module can control a maximum of 16 rails Using AutoMate
I/O already wired to existing field devices saves you the cost of buying,
wiring, and troubleshooting a new I/O system
Integrates AutoMax™ DCS control systems with PLC control systems residing on your plant’s floor
The I/O Saver module serves as a “bridge” between the Reliance Electric AutoMate Rail I/O system and the Allen-Bradley PLC control system, integrating the two product lines into one seamless control system To a programmable controller, the I/O Saver module appears
as up to 2 and 1/4 remote I/O racks that can be numbered from 0-37 (octal) As an I/O adapter, the I/O Saver reads the input data from the AutoMate Rail I/O and transfers this data to the programmable controller when scanned When the I/O Saver module receives output data from the programmable controller, it passes this data to the AutoMate Rail I/O

How the I/O Saver Module Fits into a
Control System
These following figures illustrate how the I/O Saver module fits into
an Allen-Bradley remote I/O control system Notice that you can also
connect the I/O Saver module to an AutoMax rack containing an
AutoMax Allen-Bradley Remote I/O Scanner Module
Feature Summary
On-board power supply - The I/O Saver module has its own power
supply and provides connections to 120V or 240V AC input power
Ready Relay Contacts - A set of Ready Relay contacts installed in the
I/O Saver module can be used as an additional E-stop circuit to remove
power from the outputs in case of an emergency The contacts close
when the module is operating properly and open when a hardware
problem or remote I/O fault or power loss is detected
Auto-detected remote communication rate - The I/O Saver module can
communicate on the A-B Remote I/O link at 57.6, 115.2, or 230.4 kbps
When the module first powers up, it automatically detects and matches
the communication rate being used by the programmable controller
Can communicate up to 17 words of data – When configuring the I/O
Saver module, you must define whether you are connecting just Rail I/
O, just Local Head modules, or a mixture of both The I/O Saver module
allocates:
• five words of data for just Rail I/O (one word for Rail status and four
words for I/O data)
• 17 words of data for Local Heads or a mixture of Rails and Local
Heads (one word for rail status and 16 for I/O data)
Status word for system monitoring - A status word lets you monitor
the status of the Rail I/O One bit is allocated for each rail, which you
can use to detect whether a rail is present
LED indicators for troubleshooting - Use the six LED indicators to
monitor and troubleshoot the module, communication, and remote I/O
and Rail faults
Connects to a variety of I/O scanners - Allen-Bradley
PLC-5®, PLC-2 ® , PLC-5/250™, or SLC 500™ programmable
controllers
• AutoMax PC3000 (M/N 57C560 or M/N 57C570)
• Reliance Electric AutoMax Allen-Bradley Remote I/O
