He was holding an ice-cream in one hand, and a rubber doll in the other hand 4. The man was eating the ice-cream, squeezing the doll and it was squeaking. 5. The man was screaming while walking to the square. 6. Nobody knew why he was doing the strange things. - T asks Ss to repeat the sentences. - T asks Ss (on the left hand) to read the first sentence, Ss on the left hand read the second, and take turn. Nguyen Nhat Anh. - T reads 2 sentences: This is a short story. Nguyen Nhat Anh wrote this short story. - T asks Ss to combine 2 sentences. Listen and repeat. Work in groups and make sentences. Expected answer : This is a short story which/that Nguyen Nhat Anh wrote. - T asks: What is the role of which/that in this sentence? Expected answer : object - T says: we can omit which/that in this sentence. This is a short story Nguyen Nhat Anh wrote. T gives EXAMPLE 2: - T gives a sentence: The comic book “Conan”, which I like most, is very interesting. - T asks: Can I omit “which” in this sentence? Expected answer : No -T explains: because of comas. T gives EXAMPLE 3: The song was interesting. We listened to it last night. The song to which we listened last night was interesting. - Can we omit “which” in this sentence? Why? - Expected answer: No - T explains: because of preposition. T gives some NOTES: - Relative pronouns “whom, which, that” can be omitted when they are OBJECTS in the sentences. - But we can’t omit : “whom , which” after a comas and a preposition III.
