LESSON PLAN 7 NAME OF THE LESSON: UNIT 13: THE WORLD CUP READING NEW TIENG ANH 10 (ADVANCED) CLASS: 10/8 TEACHER IN CHARGE: TRAN THI ANH DUONG NGUYEN THI LIEN SUPERVISOR: MS. DINH THI CAM LAI TIME ALLOTTED: 90 MINUTES I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Talk about the history of the world cup and express their understanding the World Cup by using their background knowledge and related such as: FIFA, soccer tournament, fans, host - Better their reading skill through True, False statement and Answering Questions exercises. II. SKILLS: - Reading - speaking III. TEACHING AIDS: - Textbook, handouts - Posters IV. ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: - Ss may have lack of background knowledge about the soccer tournament in Vietnam 1 V. PROCEDURE: Stages and timing STEPS Work Arrangement Warm-up ( 10mins) Game: Matching - T asks Ss to play game "Matching". - T explains the rules of the game. T distributes the handout. In group of 5 or 6 Ss will match name of some countries with the year they became champion. After 2 minutes, the group has more correct answers will be the winner. - T checks instruction by asking some questions. - HANDOUT: 1. Italy a. 1998 2. West Germany b. 1950 3. Uruguay c. 1986 4. Brazil d. 1966 5. England e. 1962 6. Argentina f. 1974 7. France g. 1938 ANSWER KEYS: 1. g 2. f 3. b 4. e 5. d 2 6. c 7. a • Lead-in: 1. Where was the 2006 World Cup held? 2. Which team became the champion? - T calls some Ss to answer the question. - To help you have more information about World Cup, let's start our lesson to day. Before you read (35 mins) Group discussion: (10mins) - T asks Ss to look at the pictures in the textbook. - T asks Ss to sit in group of 4 and describe what they see in the picture, name the players, and answer the questions in the textbook. - T can give some suggested questions to help Ss to able to ask and answer about Pele easily. - Suggested questions: 1. What is his nationality? 2. When was he born? 3. Which national soccer did he play for? 4. What is he considered? 5. Can you tell me some awards he 3 gained? - T asks Ss to work in groups to ask and answer the questions about soccer and the World Cup. - T should encourage Ss to use their background knowledge during the discussion. Other questions about the topic are welcomed. - When Ss work in group, T goes around and gives help if necessary. - After Ss finished, T calls on some Ss to go to the board and give the short talk about the soccer and the World Cup. - T gives feedback and produces the correct answer. 1.
