Do you agree with the way of naming activities from 1 to 6 in the column “Steps / Activities”? Should you change anything to make its outline more logical? (You do not need to read the whole lesson plan.) UNIT 8: THE STORY OF MY VILLAGE Lesson 1: Reading I- Aim: Reading about changes in the countryside life II- Objective: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to: -understand & use vocabulary about country life in communication. -develop their reading skill by doing given tasks. -develop other skills such as speaking, writing,… III- Anticipated problems: Ss may lack vocabulary of country life. IV- Materials: Textbook, pictures, handouts, posters,… V- Procedure: Stages & timing Steps / Activities Work arrangement Warmer & pre-reading (12’) Activity 1) Comparing pictures: -T prepares two pictures: one of a big city & the other of the countryside. -T hangs the pictures on Bb & asks Ss: Where do you prefer to live? Ss may choose the life in the city so T elicits the differences between the life in the city & in the country. -T leads in: Yes, many of you think that the life in the countryside is very hard & difficult. But things have changed much. Nowadays the life in the countryside is much better thanks to well-educated farmers’ children. The reading passage today is about that. Activity 2) Pre-teaching vocabulary: - straw: (using picture) - mud (n): wet, soft soil -brick houses: houses made of bricks, which is better than a cottage (using picture) - thanks to: owing to, because of T-class T T-class While-reading (23’) Activity 3) Match (Task 1-textbook – page 83) -T asks Ss to read the passage & try to guess the meaning of some words by doing Task 1. -T divides the class into groups & gives each gr. A poster so that they can write their answers on it. After a while T hangs the posters on Bb & lets the whole class explain, comment & decide on the correct answers. -T may give further explanation & some translation if necessary. *Key: 1B; 2D; 3A; 4E; 5C Activity 4) Complete the table (Task 2-textbook – page 84) -T asks Ss to read the passage again & then complete the table in their textbook individually. -T also has the same table on a poster & hangs it on Bb. -After a while, T calls some Ss in turns go to the Bb & complete the rows of the table. -T has the others comment & give more information if they can -T wraps up. Who invented them for you to use? -T goes round to help & to make sure that all Ss are involved. -After a while T asks Ss to give their ideas about it +) Option 2 (for weaker Ss): Summarize -T asks Ss to work in groups to summary the reading passage basing on the main questions: -What was the life like in the author’s village many years ago? - What is it like now? -Is it much different? While doing her tests, the students often have different answers to the same questions.
