Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period 112 : Preparation date : 27 /3/2011 Unit14 : Lesson : Space Conquest ( Reading) I. Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to skim for general ideas. - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to scan for specific details. II. Lexical items : -conduct -envisage -frontier -sponsor -ferry - explore III. Structures : -Moon buses may transport guests on low gravity excursion IV. Teaching aids: - textbook - picture / drawings - chalk - handouts V. Techniques : - Skill – based ( reading, speaking) VI. Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. Warm- up & lead- in (7’) Game: Cut – up Pictures -Divide the class into three groups ,A,B , C -Give each group the pieces of 3 pictures cut up and shuffled. (Yuri Gagarin, Neil Armstrong, and an astronaut). (appendix) -tell the groups to put the pieces together to have complete pictures and then write the names in the photocopies space provided. -When they have finished, stick their pictures on the board. -The first group to finish and get all correct scores 5 points. With a correct name, the group wins another 5 points. -the group with more points wins the game. -Check SS’ understanding of instructions and have them start the game. -Declare the winner. -From the pictures, elicit from SS the topic of the next unit: ‘These pictures represent the topic of the Period : Unit :14 Space Conquest ( Chalk and board. next unit. Ask SS to give explanations for false sentences -check with the whole Task a: Chalk + book + small board class. Activity 2: Questions and answers (task b, p. 193 ) -Tell SS to read the text again and find the answers to the questions. - Ask Ss to work with a partner, ask and answer the questions. -Call on pairs to ask and answer them and check with the whole class. 4. Post- reading (15’) Discussion -Arrange SS to work in small groups of 4 or 5 - Ask them discuss the following questions: . a. If affordable, would you like to take a space trip? Why? Why not? textbooks - go around monitor and give help if necessary. - call on SS to report about their groups’ and invite to give comments. b. Where would you go? c. How long would you stay there? d. What would you to there? 5. Homework (2’) Sentence Building - Tell SS to make meaningful sentence using the cues given. 1.
