(1, 25 points) The Southeast Asian Games owes its origins to the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games or SEAP Games. On May 22,1958 delegates from the countries in Southeast Asian peninsula attending the 3 rd Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan had a meeting and agreed to establish a sport organization.The proposed rationale was that a regional sports event will help promote cooperation, understanding and relations among countries in the Southeast Asian region. The participating countries agreed to hold the Games biannually. The SEAP Games Federation Committee was formed. The first SEAP Games were held in Bangkok in December, 1959 comprising more than 527 athletes. Indonesia and the Philippines were formally admitted to the SEAP Games Federation in 1977. At the same year the name of SEAP Federation was changed into Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF), and the games were known as the Southeast Asian Games. Brunei was admitted at the 10 th SEA Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, and East Timor at the 22 nd SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam. In December 2003, Vietnam hosted the Games for the first time. With 158 gold medals, Vietnam gained the over-all championship for the first time. The 23 rd SEA Games was held in the Philippines in 2005, and the 2007 Southeast Asian Games were held in Thailand, which is the most protested games ever in the history of SEA Games. The SEA Games are held every two years and the next host for the 2009 SEA Games is Laos. TAPESCRIPT In 1945 leaders from 51 countries met in San Francisco, California and organised the United Nations (often called the UN). World War II had just ended. Millions of people had died and there was destruction everywhere. People hoped they could build a future of world peace through this new organisation. The United Nations has four main goals and purposes: 1. To work together for international peace and to solve international problems; 2. To develop friendly relations among nations; 3.
