Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: -Reorder the events chronologically - Write a narrative to show what happened in the past. B. Language focus: 1. Vocabulary: canoe, paddle, lean over, overturn, drop 2. Grammar: The simple past tense C. Teaching aids: Posters, pictures D. Procedure: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm-up: - Show some pictures about Da Lat and ask Ss: (?) Where can you see these picture? (?) Have you ever been to Da Lat? (?) Is it beautiful? (?) If you go on a trip to Da Lat, will you retell your friends about your trip? - Says: Today we are going to learn to write a narrative to show what happened in the past. II. Pre-writing 1. Vocabulary: - Teach some vocabulary *. Canoe (n) (picture) *. Paddle (n) (picture) (v) (action) *. Drop (v) (action) *. Lean over (v) *. Turnover (v)  Check vocab. ROR 2. Set the scene: “Last week , the Browns paddled around Xuan Huong Lake in a canoe and something happened to them.” 3. Read the first part of the story - Asks Ss to read the first part of the story and answer the question:  What happened when the browns paddled out to the middle of the lake?  Do you want to know what happened next? 4. Reorder the sentences to complete the story. - Asks Ss to put the sentences in the correct chronological order. - Check the answer - Look at the pitures and answer the questions:  In Da Lat  Yes/ No  Yes, it is.  Yes, of course - Observe the teacher’s techniques and guess the meaning. -> ca- n«, xuång -> m¸i chÌo -> chÌo -> lµm r¬i, rít -> nghiªng ngêi qua -> lËt óp - Listen to the situation - Read the passage and answer : -> Dark clouds appeared and it began to rain. -> Yes - Work in pairs to rearrange the sentences to complete the story - Give their answer - Give feedback - Asks a student to read the complete story. - Asks Ss: (?) Which tense is used in the story? (?) How the events are arranged? -> When you want to write a narrative you must remember to put the events in the chronological order to show what happened first and what happened next. III. While-writing 1. Set the scene: Use an alarm clock and ask: (?) What is this? (?) Have you ever come to class late because of it? - Says: And Uyen , too. She had a day to remember last week. 2. Picture reorder - Asks Ss to put the events in the correct chronological order - Check in public and give feedback 3. Write -it ’up - Asks Ss to work in group of three to complete the story. - Check Ss’ writing by collecting three posters from three groups to give feedback 4. Comprehension questions: - Asks Ss some questions to check Ss’ understanding. (?) Why did Uyen come to class late? (?) What was the weather like as she was leaving home? (?) Did she finish her exam? IV. Post- writing - Asks Ss to work in pairs or groups to retell a story that happened to them last summer vacation - Gets Ss to talk freely in front of the class. - Give feedback V. Consolidation - Sum up the lesson VI. Homework -> c-a-g-d-f-b-e - The simple past tense - In the chronological order - It is an alarm clock - Yes, I have. - Work in pairs to put the pictures to show what happned first and what happened next. - Give their answer -> d-b-e-h-a-f-c-g - Look at the pictures and use the given cues to write the story on a poster - Answer -> Because her alarm clock didn’t go off. -> It started to rain heavily -> Yes, she did. - Work in pairs or in groups : Each of them tell her/his friend a story - Write the story which have been told in the lesson .
