1 Background of the study:

In the context of a globalized economy and the explosion of information technology, the dating standards of Gen Z women in Vietnam have undergone significant changes These changes not only reflect shifts in perceptions of relationships and marriage but also have a direct impact on various economic sectors Notably, the robust development of online dating applications and social media has transformed communication methods and affected consumption patterns, entertainment, and tourism According to a 2021 report by the Ministry

of Planning and Investment of Vietnam, the consumption trends of young people, mainly Gen

Z women, are a crucial factor in shaping the future economic policies of the country For instance, a recent study shows that increased spending on dating activities, from dining out and watching movies to short trips, has significantly contributed to the revenue of the service industry However, understanding the relationship between Gen Z women's dating standards and economic factors remains limited This topic will focus on surveying and analyzing the dating standards of Gen Z women to understand their impact on consumption decisions better and, consequently, evaluate their effects on economic growth and development in Vietnam

By studying this topic, we aim to provide deeper insights into how the younger generation shapes the economic future through their choices and behaviours in romance and relationships, helping policymakers and businesses better orient their strategies for developing suitable products and services

Trang 4

2 Statement of the problem:

While previous studies have explored various aspects of economic growth, the relationship between Gen Z women's dating standards and financial performance still requires examination The shift towards higher dating standards among Gen Z women in Vietnam has sparked a discussion about its impact on various sectors, including the labour market, real estate, the service industry, and overall consumption patterns These standards, which may

relate to expectations of financial stability, educational attainment, and socioeconomic status,

can inadvertently shape this demographic's career choices, entrepreneurial intentions, and

spending behaviours This, in turn, may influence Vietnam's economic growth, which

warrants thorough investigation

3 Purpose and significance of the study:

This study examines the correlation between increased dating expectations among Gen Z women and Vietnam's economic development The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, businesses, and society on how shifting social norms impact consumer behaviour and professional trajectories, potentially influencing economic progress Through dissecting the complexities of Gen Z women's dating preferences and their potential economic repercussions, this research seeks to highlight broader market trends and assist businesses in adjusting strategies to succeed in this changing landscape

4 Research question and objectives:

4.1 Research object and research object

This study examines Gen Z women's dating standards, attitudes, and behaviours in Vietnam It focuses on surveying these women to understand their impact on the economy

Trang 5

women discuss dating, relationships, and romantic expectations The survey gathers information on factors influencing their dating decisions, such as personal values and relationship priorities The study will analyze the relationship between dating standards and consumer behaviours related to the economy

4.2 Detail goal:

Explore Gen Z women's knowledge, attitudes, and dating behaviours, focusing on how they approach relationships and the impact of dating standards on their personal decisions and

consumer habits

Identify the characteristics of dating needs and their fulfillment among different groups of Gen Z women, such as university students and working professionals Analyze the factors influencing differences in their dating knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours Additionally, examine the causes of these differences to understand better how the younger generation interacts with the economy through personal relationships The ultimate goal is to propose solutions to improve the quality of life and optimize economic development strategies that align with their consumption trends

4.3 Research content:

1 Changes in Dating Standards: Analyze changes in dating standards among Gen Z women in Vietnam, focusing on financial independence, career prioritization, and the desire for equal relationships emotionally and financially

2 Challenges in Finding Partners: Examine the challenges Gen Z women face in finding partners who meet these new dating standards

Trang 6

3 Consumer Behaviours: Explore dating-related consumer behaviours, including consumption trends, use of online dating services, and the impact on industries like

restaurants, tourism, and technology

4 Impact on Real Estate Market: Investigate the effects of new dating standards on the real estate market, including housing demand and the desire to live independently or invest in property

Throughout analyzing these four major areas, we will highlight the similarities and differences between groups of people before and after raising dating standards by comparing

the knowledge, attitudes, and consumer behaviours of Gen Z women based on gender,

educational level, age, income.,

II Literature review:

1 Overview of the field:

The document explores various aspects of how Gen Z's dating standards can impact Vietnam's economic landscape, drawing insights from the intersection of sociological and economic perspectives

Sociological Perspective: Gen Z's dating behaviour is characterized by a shift towards prioritizing authenticity and emotional connection This change affects broader social norms and expectations around dating and relationships For example, Gen Z in Vietnam prefers ethical consumption and values freedom of expression in social interactions, influencing consumer behaviour (Francis and Hoefel, 2018)

Technological Integration and Financial Consciousness: Gen Z has grown up with technology integrated into every aspect of their lives, making them proficient in using digital tools for personal and professional purposes This tech-savvy nature extends to their financial behaviour, where they exhibit solid financial consciousness They are more likely to research

and compare products online, seek value for money, and prioritize financial stability in their career choices The consumer behaviour of this generation is heavily influenced by their ethical considerations and the digital commerce environment they navigate daily

Broader Economic Trends: Vietnam's economy is shifting towards omnichannel shopping experiences and declining brand loyalty among young consumers These consumers prefer channels integrating digital and physical experiences ("phygital") and demand premium products reflecting personal and ethical values This shift requires companies to realign their business strategies to cater to a market that values sustainability, health, and local production (McKinsey, 2023)

The document highlights the significant interaction between Gen Z's elevated dating standards and broader economic trends in Vietnam These standards reflect and contribute to changing consumer behaviour, economic participation, and social norms, underscoring the importance of understanding these dynamics within sociological and economic frameworks

2 Previous studies and findings related to the topic:

In recent years, women’s dating standards have become a topic of research interest due to their precise impact on economic and social aspects Studies have focused on how dating

standards influence women's consumer behaviour, careers, and financial decisions Although

no previous research directly related to "The Impact of Elevated Dating Standards among Gen

Z Women on Vietnam's Economic Growth," several prior studies and findings can provide insights into this issue

Several studies in Vietnam, such as the analysis by Le Quang Hieu and Loan (2022) on the online shopping behaviour of Gen Z in Vietnam, indicate the significant impact of technological literacy on their economic activities, suggesting broader implications for how this generation engages in the market

Trang 8

Additionally, Bhore and Tapas's research (2023) identifies factors influencing the career decisions of Gen Z women in Data Science, highlighting the importance of a supportive work environment and equal opportunities in their career choices This directly correlates with the idea that career aspirations influenced by dating standards can affect economic outcomes

Kyssha Mah (October 25, 2019)-"Vietnam’s New Age Consumers: Generation Z." This study analyzes the emergence of a new consumer generation in Vietnam, emphasizing that Gen Z, with its significant purchasing power, will have a major impact on Vietnam's consumer market This generation prefers digital platforms and is highly concerned with

social and environmental issues, which can influence consumer and economic decisions

"Women’s Economic Empowerment"—McKinsey Global Institute This study indicates that closing the gender gap could increase annual GDP by up to 12% by 2025 Promoting gender equality in various sectors, including dating standards, will positively impact the country's economic development

Furthermore, an IMF Report highlights that Vietnamese women’s labour force participation rate is among the highest in the world, and this participation can significantly contribute to economic growth The increased presence of women in the workforce and leadership positions can promote income equality and economic efficiency

Lastly, a related study by Barhate and Dirani (2021) systematically evaluates Gen Z's career aspirations, providing insights into their expectations and the influence of external and internal factors on their career plans This aligns with the view that dating expectations can shape these aspirations and economic activities

3 Gaps in the literature and the need for the proposed study:

This research highlights the complex interaction between personal dating values and the economic behaviour of Gen Z women A clear gap is the need for research directly connecting

Trang 9

women's dating norms Gen Z women with economic outcomes in Vietnam, especially the financial impact of dating preferences While there is research on generational behaviours and expectations, such as that of Twenge (2023), there needs to be more research directly linking these changing social norms to specific dating behaviours and outcomes economy This is especially important in Vietnam's dynamic socio-economic context, where traditional and modern values interact uniquely

4, Theoretical framework and conceptual framework:

This study is based on theories of consumer behaviour and social influence to investigate the impact of Gen Z women's dating standards on Vietnam's economy Consumer behaviour

in the context of dating reflects personal choices and is influenced by cultural and social factors that can contribute to broader economic trends

Dating standards may include, but are not limited to, spending on dates, choice of venues,

and preferences for premium products and services These choices reflect individual characteristics and are shaped by social factors such as media influence, the importance of social image, and consumer expectations

According to cultural consumption and social behaviour studies, consumers, particularly younger generations like Gen Z, spend more on experiences than physical products This shift changes how businesses approach and market their products to appeal to this demographic The increasing interest in high-quality experiences during dates can drive the growth of service industries, from restaurants and entertainment to travel and fashion The dating standards of Gen Z women not only influence their personal consumption choices but can also have broader economic impacts through changes in consumption patterns Understanding this relationship is crucial for economists, policymakers, and businesses seeking to attract and effectively serve this market

Ill Methodology:

1 Research design:

For this study, a mixed-methods research design will provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of elevated dating standards on economic behaviours This approach combines quantitative methods to collect numerical data and qualitative methods to gather deeper, contextual insights
