There have been a lot more resorts opening up recently Customers can easily access a large variety of lodging options in numerous popular tourist spots thanks to this However, it also makes some people more picky when looking for a resort that will fit them Because there are numerous aspects to take into consideration when picking the ideal resort Safety and security are two fundamental but crucial elements Additionally, visitors must feel secure not only in the space where they unwind and have fun, but also in the neighborhood Another reason is that a resort's security reputation affects how frequently tourists return to the resort Without a safety and security system, building accommodation business is not allowed to run since it is a crucial part to prevent unexpected risks and protect the people from emergency or loss

Many significant resort businesses incorporate new digital technological breakthroughs such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), in the hotel's safety and security system as one of the effective approaches Create innovative experiences and utilities that help the hotel's security control and safety These will make tourists feel safe and entice them to remain at your hotel This impossibility will also provide organizations with a competitive advantage over their rivals

PART 1: DESRIPTION OF SAFETY AND SECURITY ISSUES ON

RESORT PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT

The hospitality sector is very diverse Hospitality businesses exist in a wide variety of sizes and styles, including everything from hotels and motels to bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues However, businesses involved in the sector have a number of characteristics Security is one of the most prevalent

1.1 Unauthorized Visitors

The nature of the business makes it difficult to keep illegal people off the property It's not uncommon for hotel customers to invite friends and acquaintances back to their rooms, although it can be even tougher to keep trespassers out in pubs, restaurants, and other public spaces with less security

Unauthorized guests are a concern to hospitality security since it might be difficult

to determine what they are there for Malicious people may steal money or stock, or they may damage property Compliance with safety rules may also be challenging if

it is unknown how many persons are there

1.2 Antisocial Guest Behavior

Sometimes even legitimate visitors might be a security risk for individuals working in the hospitality sector In the restaurant business Many of these assaults will have been carried out by those who are legally permitted to be there

Along with sexual harassment of employees, major anti-social behavior problems in the hotel and hospitality sector nowadays include violence between guests, vandalism, and threatening behavior

1.3 Theft

For the majority of firms in the hospitality sector, theft is a serious problem Due to the high volume of cash transactions, businesses are at risk of theft and fraud

Employee theft in the hotel sector can be both intentional and unintentional Some workers abuse others on purpose These kinds of workers are actively looking

Trang 6

for ways to influence the system to their advantage Intentional employee theft can happen when workers purposely record erroneous timesheets, take longer or more frequent breaks than are permitted, arrive late and leave early, work on personal projects while the company is open, etc

1.4 Lifting, supporting, and moving patients and equipment

Healthcare professionals may get their most frequent injuries as a result of lifting, supporting, and transferring patients Since handling patients frequently involves bending, twisting, and reaching, this activity increases the risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders like back and shoulder sprains and strains, general back injuries, slipped discs, soft tissue injuries to the wrists, arms, shoulders, necks, and legs, chronic pain, and even hernias

PART 2: ANALYZING SAFETY AND SECURITY ISSUES ON RESORT

PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT 1.5 Strengths

Safety and security in the resort are of utmost importance and have been thoroughly developed, covering all aspects from training programs to the implementation of modern technology The security training program addresses vital topics such as safety, accident prevention, bomb handling, terrorism, and emergency response, equipping security staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle various potential situations

Focusing on protecting customers' assets by training security guards on how

to prevent harassment, theft and protect important assets This also includes monitoring the delivery area and checking products delivered and received by employees, helping to ensure integrity and reduce the risk of theft

Furthermore, the resort places significant emphasis on monitoring and controlling security in important areas, including the reception, accommodation, and electronic alarm and lock systems This ensures robust protection for all essential areas, significantly reducing the chances of unwanted incidents

The security training program also highlights the importance of communication skills for security staff when dealing with customers They receive specialized training to build positive relationships, ensuring that guests feel safe and warmly welcomed at the resort This fosters a comfortable and trustworthy environment, resulting in an enhanced customer experience

Promoting a teamwork mindset is crucial to ensuring security and safety within the resort Creating an environment where everyone shares a common responsibility in protecting guests, staff, and resort assets enhances the effectiveness

of security measures and minimizes security-related issues

To ensure swift monitoring and response to emergencies, the resort has invested in advanced technology and control systems, including electronic protection systems, alarm systems, asset management, and communication systems This enhances monitoring capabilities and ensures the safety and well-being of everyone within the resort

Trang 8

Additionally, a strong focus on enhancing training and providing specific guidance for new employees helps them quickly adapt to procedures and the work environment, effectively reducing the risk of accidents

In conclude, the resort's safety and security program is considered a crucial and reliable factor in ensuring the safety and protection of customers, staff, and resort assets The diverse training topics, emphasis on protecting assets, focused area security management, and utilization of advanced technology are all key strengths of the safety and security aspect in this resort

For instance: In resorts security guards are trained to monitor important areas such as reception, accommodation areas and main entrances Once, a customer reported that they had found a forgotten wallet in the restaurant area Security guards quickly identify the owner of the wallet and direct them to the front desk to retrieve their assets safely and securely

1.6 Weaknesses

1.6.1 Security issues in resorts:

Internal security breach, such as: fraud, embezzlement, pilferage and accidents… may result in economic losses of the resorts Guests who stay in urban hotels frequently list security as their top concern in hotel surveys, due to the rise of crime in many cities Therefore, customers will never want to enter a resort or use services if it is not sufficiently safe for them As a result, both the resort's revenue and reputation become damaged

For example, in Hoa Binh province, tourists’ belongings were stolen at An Lac Eco Farm & Hot Springs resort However, when reporting to the resort's staff for action and resolution, the answer was "not responsible"

In conclude, the event occurred as a result of the security department's weak management, which failed to implement stringent enough policies to deter staff and protect the customers

Due to the common characteristics of the resorts, they are far from the city center, have multiple layers of locks and twenty-four seven security forces This encourages crimes, such as drug use and prostitution increase When the police show up, the suspects will have time to hide their tracks and run away before getting caught Therefore, it is more challenging for police to identify, approach, collect evidence and arrest the suspects In addition, if not carefully calculated the situation, it is very easy to violate the inviolability of residents’ accommodations

Trang 9

For example, on July 7, Binh Dinh Drug Crime Investigation Police Department caught 85 young men and women organizing drug use at a resort in Phu Cat district

To ensure strict security for customers, the security department in resorts also need to coordinate with local police to quickly detect and handle violations, especially with drugs

1.6.2 Safety issues in resort:

Carelessness in the construction of resorts can lead to dangerous situations for both customers and employees Due to the fact that Vietnam is one of the countries in the world that is predicted to be the most affected by natural disasters, such as floods, storms and droughts Therefore, resort development without careful consideration in location will result in severe damage to both people and property

For example, in 2022, a 4-star hotel in Quy Nhon city was constructed on the sewer that runs from this place to the sea As a result, when the rainy season came, the water could not escape through the sewer, leading to floods and landslides

Therefore, carelessness in management and lack of research in the construction of hotels/ resorts will affect the safety of customers and employees in the future Therefore, it is necessary to have a detailed construction strategy, as well

as disaster prevention procedures

The number of accidents occur due to high staff turnover Too many staff changes not only cause loss of training time, but also create incompetence of employees This may result in accidents at work including falls, broken or lost items,…

And this can be dangerous for employees while working, as well as customers when they have a sudden accident and employees do not fully understand the hotel's safety procedures

1.7 Opportunities

Following the growing demand of clients for hotel establishments to ensure a high level of security Investing in the security of a resort increases its value, not only in the eyes of its guests but also in the eyes of investors

In the age of digital technology, adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) is essential Since its inception, it has provided numerous opportunities to various industries, including the hospitality industry In addition, a resort ensuring a high level of security surely offers peace of mind for the guest They can relax and feel

Trang 10

more at ease, and they will thus be more likely to become loyal customers and recommend the resort to others So, investing in greater security is thus a way to nurture the guests’ trust in the hotel-resort as well as fulfilling the seamless service expected in luxury resorts

For example, Vinpearl became the first hotel - resort - entertainment chain in Vietnam to apply facial recognition technology based on artificial intelligence (AI) Facial recognition application is implemented at Vinpearl Nha Trang Complex to help visitors accurately authenticate their identity in a split second when entering the hotels, resorts, VinWonders and restaurants

Facial recognition technology applied at Vinpearl has 5 advantages: recognition speed of just one second, big data algorithm system capable of recognizing millions of faces, flexible real-time security alert, almost absolute accuracy and highest-level of customer information security

As the first hotel - resort - entertainment chain to apply artificial intelligence

in management and operation, Vinpearl has assisted Vietnam tourism - hospitality industry to reach breakthrough and affirm its brand position in the international market as well as to catch up with global smart travel trend

This is one of the great opportunities that resorts with 5-star services have to take and apply Contributing to the development of the digital economy in Vietnam

1.8 Threats

Risks are negative and potential factors that can affect safety and security in resorts in Vietnam Here are some resort-specific risks:

1.8.1 Increased criminal activities

Resorts are often locations with a high number of tourists, which can attract the attention of criminals to commit theft, fraud or security breaches This criminal behavior can affect a visitor's sense of security and damage the resort's reputation

- Example: Suspicious symptoms are as follows:

 Roaming in areas that are not allowed, especially the hotel floor where the person has not registered to stay

 Frequently change many different clothes in a short time

 Continuously observing staff, security department and guests urgently, many suspicious expressions

 Unnecessarily disruptive behavior, disturbing others
