Before you answer a task 1 question, you should remember these important testtips

- Take only 20 minutes

- Analyze the data in the chart and plan your answer (at least 3 minutes)

- Write a minimum of 150 words If you write less, your band score will godown

- Write in clear paragraphs

- Write an introduction and an overview of the chart (about 30 words each)

- Write a brief summary of your answer (20 -30 words - optional)

- Describe the general trend and compare some key details about the chart

- Do not express your opinion (it is not required – in fact, this will usually losemarks)

- Do not infer anything into the data that is not already there (you will losemarks)

- Do not make predictions about future trends which are not shown in the data ortry to explain why a trend has gone up or down (even if it is obvious) You areonly expected to describe and compare the data in the chart – not to explain why

- It is essential that you make comparisons and contrasts in your answer (or youwill get a low band score) A good task 1 answer will describe relationships in
