Trang 9The differences in lifestyle between the old and the young are undeniable in modern society Each age brings people unique experiences, perspectives, and priorities Old people have gone through many years of life and accumulated a lot of experience They often have a profound view of life and true values On the contrary, young people often set many goals and ambitions in life However, it is impossible to divide the elderly and the young into two completely separate groups There are old people who have youthful spirit and enjoy new experiences, as well as young people who have traditional values and respect for old age Additionally, societal changes and technological advancements can influence the lifestyle choices and behaviors of both older and younger generations In short, the differences between the lifestyles of old and young people reflect the unique perspectives, experiences, and priorities of each age group This contributes to the diversity and development of society Our group's discussion below will shed more light on the differences and ways to bridge that generation gap.
Trang 10I What is the lifestyle, the older generation, the younger generation?
1 Lifestyle
Lifestyle is the way a person or group of people live and act in daily life Lifestyle can be defined by factors such as diet, physical activity, social relationships, work, entertainment and personal development In short, lifestyle is how each person organizes and lives his or her daily life It is an important aspect of life and can affect health, happiness and well-being, happiness and success of each person.
2 The young
Young people are people in their teenage years, going through the process of finding and defining themselves, building goals and dreams, and shaping their lives and careers They face many important challenges and decisions in life and have curiosity and a desire to explore the world.
Nowadays, young people's lifestyles are influenced by technology and social media They often use mobile devices and social networks to connect with friends and family, find information and entertainment Technology has also changed the way young people work and study, with many online jobs and courses being developed.
In addition, young people also tend to care about health and a healthy lifestyle They often engage in sports activities, eat healthy and take care of themselves Young people also tend to care about the environment and protecting nature.
3 The old
Elderly people are people who have passed the adult stage and are at a higher age, usually 60 years old or older They have their characteristics and challenges in life but can also continue to actively participate and enjoy life.
Because of aging, the physical health of the elderly has decreased quite a lot, so most elderly people still maintain good health by having a balanced and nutrient-rich diet and participating in activities Physical activity such as walking, yoga, swimming or participating in fitness classes for seniors can help maintain your body's health and flexibility.
II What is differences in lifestyle between the old and the young?
1 Culture and religion
Besides that the difference between the old and young in lifestyle are culture and religion Culture is the combination of spiritual and emotional features of a particular set of people The first difference is social beliefs and customs Weddings in VN were arranged mainly by parents and people were married very young However, things have changed in recent years since VN has opened the door to the world and the young have affected a lot of foreign cultures The young enjoy greater freedom of choosing the time of their marriage and their partner.
It is also common with old generations to see three to four generations of a family living together in the same house Nevertheless, the young want to live in a nuclear family because they feel that it’s more comfortable In the old opinion, LGBT is a mental illness But the young are more open- minded about LGBTQ community Second of all, music and dance are one of the factors of culture Nowadays, the young are no longer interested in ethnic musical instruments and folk music
On the contrary, the older generation is fond of Vi and Dam folk songs with Moon lute, bamboo flute, …
10
Trang 11religion in VN has historically been largely defined by a mix of Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism
According to the survey, the young are less likely than them to have a religious affiliation Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 aren’t going to church in numbers like their grandparents and great-grandparents did, and the numbers seem to decline every year The old say religion is very important to them but the young don’t think so Younger individuals often have access to a wide range of information and perspectives through the internet and social media, which can contribute to a more nuanced and individualistic approach to religion Involvement in formal religious activities—those organized through a church or place of worship—is much less common for young people today than it was a generation ago The modest generational division in saying grace or praying at meals is noteworthy given how much less often younger generations report eating meals with their families as children Attending Sunday school was also a fairly typical experience for the old, but far less so for young generation Some people think because higher education has served as a popular explanation for rising rates of disaffiliation among young adults.
2 Perception and education
Old people and young people have many differences in perception Older people have plentiful experiences, so they have a multi-dimensional mindset about life Young people are often active They like to explore, so they have simple and new thoughts, some of them are still immature.
When it comes to education most people from the present generation tend to have at least a bachelor’s degree In other words, they cannot work until they have an appropriate education In contrast, people in the older generation did not have a lot of opportunities to study In the past, only rich people would have the opportunities to study Also, people in the older generation focused more on working than studying Thus, people in the present generation have a higher education than people of the older generation.
In the present generation we have the right to education i.e.men and women both have equal right to have education In contrast, women of the older generation did not have the opportunity to study when compared with men Day by day, science and technology are increasingly advanced The explosion of internet-connected devices such as computers, tablets, smartphones help people have many means to access, search for diverse information, learn online Compared to the older generation, the technology is not really familiar because they have to ensure that their work is done completely with bare hands without any programming equipment that they can use.
3 Fashion
Fashion is a big difference between the two generations because you can realize it in their appearance.
The older generation is more traditional in terms of fashion while the younger generation likes to experiment with many styles.
The young people pay more attention to the way they dress because how they look is extremely important Fashion is a significant and obvious way to express themselves Also, they are more open to new trends and fads For example, teenagers with bold personalities are now commonly seen with super ripped jeans and super short crop tops, which were once considered unacceptable to older generations.
Of course, when people get older, especially when they have a family to support and children to take care of, fashion and keeping up with the latest trends will no longer be their priority Generally, old people are more aware of function rather than fashion.
4 Technology
Trang 12information was limited Therefore, it creates a difference in lifestyle between the old people of the past and the young people of today Perhaps, the use of "technological devices" is one of the first factors affecting this difference In the past, when they weren't popular, elderly people did not have tools to support them; they mainly communicated via mobile devices In the digital age, young people are increasingly using it in the fields of education, e-commerce, art, health, etc with high efficiency If they have "network devices and the Internet", young people can do anything they want Before 1969, there was no development of the Internet, and old people did not have to use it, they often had to write letters to contracts to exchange work in life However, they become indispensable in today's youth because they are like a key that helps young people monitor the world around them and update status and information about work, chat, entertainment, etc Today, the 4.0 technology era is still constantly developing, and the elderly are also gradually approaching technological innovations, but they need to spend more time learning There are also many new jobs in technology: video credit, AI research and development, 3D printing, biotechnology…Their main requirement is creativity Thanks to them, young people will have more job opportunities and more challenges to overcome.
5 Lifestyle
Lifestyles are changing every day for different generations In the world of older people, they like a peaceful life with simple things On that side, their world also has traditional concepts and customs about the artifacts of women and men They are often meticulous and have a limited family life, so they think more about themselves On the contrary, the world of young people always tends to be 'extroverted', dynamic, and diverse Most of them enjoy a free lifestyle, like to explore the world, and can travel to many places without spending too much money Moreover, young people seize many opportunities to create an ideal life, while the elderly have a low probability of only relying on their long-life experience.
III Why is there differences in lifestyle between the old and the young?
Life is formed, developed and influenced by subjective and objective factors of each individual, generation, community in the society Each generation of people undergoes living circumstances and living conditions in different historical periods, creating different lifestyles The older people were born in where there was no technology In the contrary, Youth who are always in contact with modern devices such as smartphones, computers, etc.…So that the old generation cannot understand the young ones and how they live.
There is always a difference in thought and perception between the young and old generations From here, generational conflict has created an invisible gap in family relationships, sometimes causing unnecessary damage.
Even in many families, young people think that the elderly are backward, prejudiced, and cannot keep up with the pace of modern life, while the old say that their children and grandchildren do not listen to their advice, living in a hurry.
The difference between the two generations is also reflected in the concept of life goals as well as the content of life that each generation cares about The elderly, with their ancient habits, are still imbued with the spirit of family bonding, and with the loving inertia, always tend to control and protect them like when they were children They always think they must teach and guide their children and grandchildren to do good things and avoid bad things according to their beliefs Besides, the younger generation believes that many experiences of their predecessors are no longer true in modern society, from which conflicts arise The older generation often pursuit sustainable values and aims to build family happiness However, young people respect their interests and desire to experience life instead of being confined to old norms.
