Smart – Startup aims to revolutionize preventive medicine through a comprehensive cloud computing solution This innovative platform will digitize the tasks of community health workers and provide a user-friendly portal for families to monitor immunization schedules, access health education resources, and apply for early disease diagnosis through screening and registry notifications via SMS With both web and mobile applications, users can conveniently log in and access services anytime, anywhere The SMS feature will utilize bulk messaging with a branded sender name (e.g., YTDP Ha Noi) to enhance trust and reliability.

The Preventive Medicine Information Systems (SMIS) issues an ID number for newborns within 24 hours of birth, allowing for the administration of the Hepatitis B vaccine before the birth registration certificate is obtained This ID number enables parents to receive important information about healthcare programs and early disease diagnosis When implemented nationwide, SMIS creates a comprehensive national database for immunization and vaccination, facilitating the delivery of value-added services (VAS) in preventive medicine, beginning with Immunization Notification SMS.
SMIS are secure, web-based databases that utilize ID-based management to confidentially track all administered immunization doses and preventive medicine procedures by participating providers for individuals within a specific geographical region.
In the long term, this product aims to develop into a comprehensive ecosystem for Preventive Medicine, encompassing Immunization and various other fields such as Communicable Diseases (CDs), Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs), nutrition, school health, and early disease diagnosis Central to this ecosystem is a unique identification system that integrates multiple management systems, enabling value-added services (VAS) like immunization reminders, notification SMS, and alerts for communicable diseases to effectively support public health.

1.1.3 Overview about Data Warehouse System in Smart – Startup 1.1.3.1 Data Warehouse Concepts
Data warehousing involves the systematic collection and storage of subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant, and nonvolatile data in a managed database to support decision-making It consolidates data from various operations within a corporation into a central repository, known as a data warehouse, allowing analysts to extract valuable information that enhances decision-making processes.
Data aggregation and parsing are essential for extracting valuable insights from information In the realm of data warehouse design, two prominent figures are William Inmon and Ralph Kimball, each advocating different methodologies Inmon's approach emphasizes a top-down design, while Kimball favors a bottom-up strategy Many data warehouse practitioners align themselves with one of these two distinct approaches.
A Data Warehouse is a subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant, non- volatile collection of data used in support of decision making processes
―Subject Oriented‖ means that a data warehouse focuses on the high-level entities of the business and the data are organized according to subject
"Integrated" refers to the consistent storage of data, including uniform formats, naming conventions, variable measurements, encoding structures, and physical attributes For instance, while an organization might use multiple coding schemes for ethnicity, a data warehouse consolidates this into a single coding scheme.
Time-variant data warehouses offer extensive access to detailed information over extended periods, associating data with specific time points like months, quarters, or years This non-volatile data remains unchanged once entered into the warehouse, ensuring consistency and reliability for analytical purposes.

The data modeling process consists of three levels: High-level modeling, known as the Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD), which outlines entities, attributes, and relationships; Mid-level modeling, referred to as the data item set, which organizes data by department; and Low-level modeling, or the physical model, which focuses on optimizing performance.

Desk Review (secondary data)
Secondary data was gathered to explore the Business Model Canvas approach at Smart Startup and to outline the internal development team's responsibilities and tasks This data, sourced from diverse literature, articles, and news, includes previously published research, magazines, books, and other publications from both official and unofficial organizations The findings from this secondary data collection are detailed in Chapter 3.
Primary data
Primary data is collected through methods such as interviews, group discussions, and specialized surveys, making it more costly than secondary data sources However, primary data is crucial when secondary data is either unavailable or unreliable In contrast, secondary data is typically collected for purposes other than addressing a specific research problem This thesis employs both primary and secondary data collection methods to analyze the market situation and potential demand for data software in preventive healthcare services, validate the secondary data concerning the Business Model Canvas approach, and gather new insights regarding the needs of the internal development team The findings from the primary data collection are detailed in Chapter 3.
To gather primary data, qualitative interviews were conducted with selected participants This method was chosen for its effectiveness in providing in-depth insights, making it ideal for understanding the nuances of the research topic.
This study examines smart startup businesses in preventive medicine through the lens of the Business Model Canvas It emphasizes the importance of understanding participants' attitudes and opinions, particularly focusing on the needs of the internal development team By analyzing these factors, the research aims to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of startups in the preventive medicine sector.
All interviews were designed as semi-structured Semi-structured means that a list of themes and questions to be covered works as a basis for the interview, including a scope for changes
To prepare for each interview, a comprehensive interview guide was developed and pilot tested through a questionnaire This guide focused on key themes, including interviewees' perspectives on the importance of preventive medicine services, their ability to utilize these services within public health frameworks, and their willingness to collaborate with partners in the preventive medicine sector For detailed questions, please refer to Appendix B.
Interviews were conducted using the Voice Memo app on iPhone, tailored to the interview's location, and subsequently transcribed for analysis Detailed descriptions of each interview's methodology can be found in Table 2.1.
The study involved 30 interviewees from various sectors of preventive medicine, including potential clients, medical authorities, and insurance advisors These participants are key stakeholders who may collaborate with Smart Startup, particularly in the realm of preventive health insurance services Data collected from these interviews is currently being processed using Microsoft Excel 2010.

Expert Interview
To enhance the robustness of my findings from a personal field study, I conducted an expert interview with Associate Professor Dr Tran Dac Phu, the director of the Preventive Medicine Department and a leader in the field Dr Phu shared his insights on the Shared Data Warehouse System in Preventive Medicine, prompting me to compare his perspectives with my own research experience Additionally, he discussed key characteristics of Preventive Medicine in Vietnam and the current health status of the Vietnamese population, which I detailed in Chapter 3.
Focus Group
To explore the connection between the founders' initial vision and the feedback from participants, a focus group was organized This focus group utilized a structured interview guide while allowing for flexibility, which enhanced group dynamics and encouraged open discussion.
The study on smart startup businesses in preventive medicine utilized the Business Model Canvas to facilitate in-depth discussions among participants An iPhone was employed to record the sessions, allowing the interview supervisor to focus entirely on the respondents' answers and group dynamics, while deferring analysis to a later stage This approach encouraged participants to elaborate on their insights, enriching the overall data collection process.
The respondents were informed about the theme in advance, allowing them to prepare initial thoughts for the discussion The interview began with a brief overview of its purpose and a notification that the session would be recorded Following this, open-ended questions were posed to explore the respondents' perspectives on the necessity of preventive medicine services and the demand for a system that offers information on immunization and health education.
The next phrase of the interview introduced my service, and was aiming to figure out if it satisfy the need of the respondents previously had been listed
The final segment of the interview focused on Smart Startup and its range of services The participants shared their aspirations regarding software display, identified their target customers, explored additional use cases, and discussed various channels and pricing strategies.
REALITIES OF SMART- STARTUP BUSINESS IN
Preventive Medicine Industry in Vietnam
3.1.1 Current situation of preventive medicine industry in Vietnam
Prophylactic medicine, also known as preventive medicine, focuses on implementing strategies to promote health and reduce disease occurrence This field is dedicated to conducting research, protecting health, and managing health services to monitor and address individuals' health needs effectively By identifying potential health issues, preventive medicine aims to control and prevent the progression of diseases.
In recent years, Vietnam's preventive medicine sector has significantly enhanced the health indicators of its population Despite this progress, the industry still encounters numerous challenges that necessitate collaboration among various ministries, sectors, local administrations, and the public.
Current health care challenges include significant disparities in basic health indicators between urban and rural areas, with minimal improvement in recent years While the rate of malnutrition among underweight children has decreased, stunting remains high, and obesity rates in children under five are rising rapidly Additionally, the burden of communicable diseases, such as malaria and dengue fever, continues to be substantial and increasingly difficult to manage The emergence of zoonotic diseases like H5N6, H7N9, Mers-CoV, and Ebola poses further challenges for the health system This shift in disease burden, alongside the rising incidence of non-communicable diseases, contributes to increased illness and mortality rates.
The study on smart startup businesses in preventive medicine, utilizing the Business Model Canvas, highlights the dual impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) on both individuals and society While these diseases impose significant economic burdens on affected families and the healthcare system, their prevalence is rising not only in economically developed urban areas but also among rural populations Addressing this issue is crucial for enhancing public health and alleviating the strain on healthcare resources.
Vietnam is confronting numerous health risk factors, including demographic challenges such as population growth, aging, and gender imbalance; socio-economic issues like labor, income, poverty, and the effects of urbanization; environmental concerns including climate change, pollution, and inadequate sanitation; and lifestyle choices such as smoking, excessive alcohol use, poor nutrition, and low physical activity levels.
In response to the evolving dual burden of infectious and non-communicable diseases, health systems must adapt their organizational structures and functions to effectively deliver services Preventive medicine plays a crucial role in not only combating infectious diseases but also in mitigating non-communicable diseases by addressing risk factors It is essential to embrace a preventive approach in the planning and investment of health programs The national strategy for preventive medicine, approved by the Prime Minister on November 9, 2006, emphasizes the importance of active prevention and risk factor reduction, highlighting that preventive healthcare is a collective responsibility shared by governments, ministries, sectors, socio-economic organizations, and the community.

Vaccination has greatly decreased the incidence and mortality rates of various infections, leading to substantial savings in treatment costs and minimizing the financial burden on parents and caregivers The economic impact of vaccination is evident, as the cost of treatment for infections can be five times higher than the expenses associated with vaccination programs.
To effectively prevent disease, it is essential to integrate interventions targeting multiple risk factors and health conditions, fostering lifestyle changes within the community This requires collaboration among interdisciplinary agencies, organizations, unions, and both public and private sectors Key strategies include implementing epidemiological surveillance to monitor risk factors and morbidity, which aids in prioritizing and assessing intervention effectiveness Additionally, proposing supportive policies and creating conducive environments are crucial for encouraging behavior change, alongside enhancing the health system's capacity.
The study on smart startup businesses in preventive medicine emphasizes the importance of utilizing the business model canvas to enhance the coverage and effectiveness of preventive and healthcare services It advocates for the establishment of programs that improve accessibility and connectivity between individuals and available resources Additionally, the study highlights the need to strengthen grassroots healthcare networks and manage both infectious and non-communicable diseases, ensuring a comprehensive approach to primary health and aged care This initiative aims to sustain community-based preventive measures and disease management activities.
Primary health care is crucial for ensuring universal access to essential health services, emphasizing practical and scientifically validated methods with active community participation The four key principles of primary care include political commitment, community involvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the use of appropriate technology In Vietnam, the implementation of ten primary health care components over the past 40 years—such as health education, nutrition, clean water, maternal health, family planning, expanded vaccination, local pandemic prevention, injury treatment, essential medicine, and strengthening grassroots health networks—has proven effective These strategies aim to prevent both infectious and non-communicable diseases, enhance early detection and treatment, reduce disability and mortality, alleviate the burden on the health system, and ultimately improve the quality of life and longevity for individuals and communities.
3.1.2 Vietnamese people health status and the disease pattern
In recent years, public health has seen significant improvements; however, the frequency of mobility has decreased Despite this progress, certain diseases continue to exhibit high rates of morbidity and mortality.

Historically significant diseases like cholera, typhoid, and plague, known for their high transmission rates and epidemic potential, have seen a dramatic decline in prevalence, effectively eliminating the threat of epidemics associated with these illnesses.
In recent years, our country has faced several infectious diseases, including SARS and avian influenza (H5N1), which have been transmitted to humans Despite significant efforts to combat these illnesses, diseases like tuberculosis and malaria continue to pose serious challenges, leading to high rates of morbidity and mortality The situation remains particularly complex for tuberculosis, especially in cases co-infected with HIV.
Build Canvas Model for SMART STARTUP
3.2.1 Customer Segments 3.2.1.1 Immunization and preventive medicine service providers
As of February 26, 2014, Joint Circular No 09/2014 issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance reports that Vietnam has a total of 12,403 governmental preventive medicine service providers.
Smart‘s target customers are immunization and preventive health providers to use SMIS to manage all their job from planning, scheduled vaccines and vaccination implementation, statistical reports
There are more than 11.000 CHCs under Expanded Immunization Program (EPI) all over the nation and ~2,000 of non – EPI centers We aim to deploy in 17
The study explores the implementation of smart startup businesses in preventive medicine, utilizing the Business Model Canvas framework It focuses on urban centers classified as grade 1 in Vietnam, aiming to capture 20% of the market share, which translates to approximately 2,200 community health centers (CHCs) and 100 non-EPI immunization providers.
SMART STARTUP's target customers encompass EPI System managers, healthcare center employees, non-EPI immunization providers, as well as advertising and insurance companies that leverage preventive medicine databases to enhance and promote their services.
3.2.1.2 Parents of babies under 2 years old and pregnant women
In Vietnam, there are approximately 3 million parents of babies under 2 years old, including 1.5 million newborns each year, alongside 1.6 million pregnant women Our goal is to achieve a 10% registration rate among parents, translating to 300,000 subscriptions, and a 5% rate among pregnant women, equating to 80,000 subscriptions Our target demographic consists of urban residents aged 20-40 with a monthly income exceeding 5,000,000 VND, who possess at least one feature phone or smartphone The annual fee for our SMS service will start at around 50,000 VND (approximately 4,200 VND per month) for parents and 10,000 VND per pregnant woman over a 9-month period.
In the future, immunization customers will emerge as a key target segment for various areas of preventive medicine, including communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, school health, early disease diagnosis, and health education.
SMART STARTUP will quickly develop a minimum viable product (MVP) following an in-house analysis of market and medicine processes, ensuring it meets end-user requirements A pilot program will be launched within three months to enhance quality and software interface, incorporating feedback from end-users throughout the product development process Additionally, we will engage with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health (General Department of Preventive Medicine - GDPM), the National Expanded Immunization Program (NEPI), and immunization providers, particularly in urban areas.

3.2.3 Value prosition: o SMIS combine immunization information from different sources into a single record bases on a single individual ID number Every people are no longer have to worry about losing immunization book/tag, moving between provinces with different management system and take many types of vaccine trade name o SMIS remind families when an immunization is due or has been missed through many channels such as email, SMS, direct channel,… o SMIS are capable of exchanging immunization information with immunization medicine providers Data exchange between SMIS and other information systems helps ensure timely immunizations, consolidation of records, and allows immunization providers to work more efficiently o By connecting with MOH and all immunization providers to standardize all technical problems and officially upload all immunization data, communicable diseases (CDs), non – communicable diseases (NCDs), health education, early diagnosis of diseases, communicable alert data,… into the SMIS, SMART STARTUP will provide an affordable service to whom want to receive medicine SMS from medicine stations that no other competitor can replace
The SMART STARTUP initiative focuses on enhancing preventive medicine through a comprehensive business model canvas Its key value proposition lies in utilizing a single ID management system to improve full immunization coverage and provide additional preventive medicine services By implementing a complete process management strategy, SMART STARTUP aims to streamline administrative tasks, reduce reporting burdens, and lower operational costs This approach not only generates new revenue streams from immunization and preventive medicine services but also supports health center workers in delivering efficient care.
Integrating the SMIS/Portal as a subdomain of the official Medicine Stations website will enhance trust and accessibility It's essential to select a memorable web address or acronym for easy recall During the SMIS deployment, we aim to engage provincial and district smart startup preventive medicine centers to serve as educators and key supporters for Community Health Centers (CHCs) Additionally, when rolling out SMS services, collaboration with CHCs and non-EPI centers will be established on a fee-for-service basis, ensuring effective outreach and support.
