DIFFERENTIAL – REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL DF–11 INSTALLATION INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER (a) Install a new rear differential drive pinion bearing spacer INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING (a) Using a brass bar and a hammer, install a new oil storage ring (b) Using SST and a hammer, install the front bearing outer race (c) Install the front bearing SST 09316-60011 (09316-00011, 09316-00021) INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER (w/ Differential Lock) INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL (a) Using SST and a hammer, install a new oil seal SST 09554-30011 Oil seal drive in depth: -0.5 to 0.5 mm (-0.0197 to 0.0197 in.) If the backlash is not within the specification, adjust or repair the side bearing preload as necessary INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION PRELOAD (a) Using a torque wrench, measure the preload of the backlash between the drive pinion and ring gear Torque: 0.49 to 0.78 N*m (5 to kgf*cm, 4.3 to 6.9 in.*lbf) If necessary, disassemble and inspect the differential assembly INSPECT TOTAL PRELOAD (a) Using a torque wrench, measure the preload with the teeth of the drive pinion and ring gear in contact Total preload (at starting): Drive pinion preload plus 0.22 to 0.88 N*m (2.2 to 8.8 kgf*cm, 2.0 to 7.8 in.*lbf) If necessary, disassemble and inspect the differential REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL VACUUM ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (a) Remove the bolts (b) Using a hammer handle, remove the actuator assembly SST DF note its thickness • Tag the bearing outer races to show the location for reassembly (a) Using SST and a press, remove the outer race and plate washer from the bearing retainer SST 09950-60020 plastic hammer, tap on the ring gear to separate it from the differential case assembly 21 REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE BEARING (a) Using SST, remove the differential case bearings from the differential case assembly SST 09950-60010 (09951-00390), 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04010, 09955-04061, 09957-04010, 09958-04011) HINT: Fix the claws of SST into the notch in the differential case assembly DF DF–24 DIFFERENTIAL – FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) RA00997 22 DISASSEMBLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE (a) Using a pin punch and a hammer, remove the straight pin (b) Remove these parts from the differential case assembly (1) Differential side gears (2) Differential side gear thrust washers (3) Differential pinion shaft (4) Differential pinion gears (5) Differential pinion gear thrust washers 23 INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL GEAR KIT (a) Check that there is no damage to the pinion gear and side gear If the pinion gear and/or side gear is damaged, replace the differential gear kit 24 INSPECT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE (a) Check that the differential case assembly is not damaged If the differential case assembly is damaged, replace it 25 REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING (a) Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the bearings DF SA00353 26 REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL CLUTCH HUB (a) Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap AND CLUTCH SLEEVE FORK CLEARANCE (a) Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the sleeve fork and clutch sleeve Maximum clearance: 0.35 mm (0.0138 in.) C096928 C096931 AXLE – FRONT AXLE HUB (for 2WD) AH–9 (b) Attach the bolts onto the hub bolt in the position shown in the illustration, and screw them into the flange, then fix them in a vice (c) Using a socket wrench (36 mm), remove the lock nut (d) Remove the spacer C096929 REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE (a) Remove the bolts and shift the dust cover towards the hub side (outside) (b) Using SST, remove the steering knuckle SST 09710-30021 (09710-03131), 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04031, 09957-04010, 09958-04011) (c) Remove the dust cover from the axle hub REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB OIL SEAL (a) Using a screwdriver, pry out the oil seal from the steering knuckle REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB INNER BEARING (a) Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring (b) Using INNER BEARING (a) Using SST and a press, press a new bearing into the steering knuckle SST 09527-17011, 09608-10010 (b) Using snap ring pliers, install a new snap ring AH AH–10 AXLE – FRONT AXLE HUB (for 2WD) INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB OIL SEAL (a) Using SST and a plastic-faced hammer, tap in a new oil seal SST 09223-15020, 09527-17011 (b) Coat MP grease to the oil seal lip INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE (a) Install the dust cover onto the steering knuckle with the bolts Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf) (b) Using SST and a press, press in the axle hub to the steering knuckle SST 09710-30050 INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT (a) Attach the bolts onto the hub bolt in the position shown in the illustration, and screw them into the flange, then fix them in a vice (b) Install the spacer (c) Using a socket wrench (36 mm), install a new lock nut onto the axle hub Torque: 199 N*m (2,029 kgf*cm, 147 ft.*lbf) (d) Using a chisel and hammer, stake the lock nut INSTALL KNUCKLE GREASE RETAINER CAP (a)
