Applied Physics Department, FAS, HCMUT Matlab Projects – Physics Project 4: Determining the electrostatic interacting forces between charged particles in free space Content Electrostatic interacting force of n charged particles acting on charged particle q0 is determined by the superposition principle as follows   F  Fi i  In which, Fi is the electrostatic force of particle i acting on particle q0 This force is determined by Coulomb's law:  qq  Fi k i er r With , k 9.10 Nm / C ; r - the distance between the i-th point charge and the point charge q0 This project requires students to use Matlab to calculate the F x and Fy components of the electrostatic force between point charges in the Oxy plane Requirements 1) Students should have basic programming knowledge of MATLAB 2) Learn about symbolic calculation and graphical interpretation in MATLAB Tasks Write Matlab program to: 1) Enter the number of charged particles 2) Enter the coordinates and charge of each point charge in the Oxy plane 3) Use symbolic calculations to calculate the Fx and Fy components of the electrostatic force due to the remaining charged particles on each charged particle Note: Students can use other non-symbolic approaches Submitting report has to contain text explaining the content of the program and the entire code verified to run properly in Matlab References: A L Garcia and C Penland, MATLAB Projects for Scientists and Engineers, Prentice Hall, Upper Saddle River, NJ, 1996 http://www.algarcia.org/fishbane/fishbane.html Or https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/2268-projects-for-scientists-andengineers 1/1
