Week: UNIT 6: OUR TET HOLIDAY P: Period: LESSON 7: LOOKING BACK + PROJECT T: I Objectives: Knowledge: Aims: To help Ss review the vocabulary about Tet, the use of should/ shouldn’t, the use of some and any to talk about Tet Competence: Ss will be able to: - use vocabularies, phrases and grammar should/shouldn’t – some/any to talk about Tet - apply what they have learnt (vocabulary and grammar) into practice through a project (say their wishes) Character qualities: Ss are proud of the traditional Tet of Vietnamese people and preserve the traditional activities at Tet, learn how to behave well at other people’s homes II Teaching aids: Grade textbook, Unit 6, Looking back & Project, Handouts, a peach blossom tree (a simple wishing tree) sachmem.vn III Procedure Warm up: Network - To revise the vocabulary related to the topic and lead in the next part of the lesson Eat Banh chung Dress beautifully THINGS AND ACTIVITIES AT TET Pre- stage: -To help students revise the vocabulary about things and activities at Tet, the use of should/ shouldn’t, some / any a Vocabulary: * Match the verbs on the left with the nouns on the right (Exercise 1/ P 66) - Ask Ss to read the list of the words and the matching individually - Call on some Ss to read aloud their answers before checking them as a class Key: d c e a b f * Complete the sentnces with the words/ phrases in the box (Exercise 2/ P 66) Gap Fill: - Have Ss this activity individually - Allow them to swap answers - Have ss write the answers on the board - Check their answers as a class Key: lucky money cleaning Banh chung peach Gathering b Grammar: * T helps Ss revise the use of should / shouldn’t - Tasks Ss: What activities should /shouldn’t you at Tet? - Ss answer: I should I shouldn’t * T helps Ss revise the use of some and any - T shows pictures and asks Ss to fill in the blanks with some or any - Ss answer: - There are -There are not (some eggs) ( any eggs) (some rice) - Ss answer: - There is - There is not ( any rice) During- stage: -To help Ss pracice should / shouldn’t, some and any in context a Write full sentences using the cues given, and should / shouldn’t (Exercise 3/ P 66) - T gives Ss the situation of visiting someone’s home, a popular activity for children at Tet - T asks: What he/she should at Tet What he/she shouldn’t at Tet - Have Ss read the phrases first - Allow them some time to write the sentences - Call on some Ss to say the sentences aloud and see if others agree - Check their answers as a class - Ask if Ss can suggest any other behaviour with should / shouldn’t Suggested answers: He / She should ask for permisson before entering a room He / She shouldn’t run about the home He / She shouldn’t take things from a shelf He / She shouldn’t make a lot of noise He / She should ask for some water if he / she feels thirsty b Read the passage and fill in the blanks with some or any (Exercise 4/ P 66) - Ask Ss to look for clues in each sentence to decide which word to use to fill in the blank - Allow Ss to swap their answers - Check their answers as a class Key: some some any any some any Post- stage: - To allow students to apply what they have learnt (vocabulary and grammar) into practice speaking skills through a project a Speaking: - When’s Tet holiday? - What should people to celebrate Tet? - What should people at Tet? - What you at Tet? b Project: To this project, T should prepare a simple wishing tree It can be made from carton or it can be a dry branch T should also prepare small pieces of paper of the same size and colour for Ss to write their wishes in - Teacher sets the context that Tet is coming, and asks Ss what they wish to do/to have in the new year, - Teacher asks students to get a small piece of paper (Paper in different colours can give the tree a bright atmosphere.) - Teacher reminds students not to write their names on the paper - Teacher draws students’ attention to some wishes on the trees as examples - Teacher allows students 3-5 minutes to write their wishes, reminding them to use “I want… ” - Teacher let students come up and hang their wishes on the tree - When everybody is ready, call on some students to come and pick a random piece of paper, and read the wish aloud The class can guess whose wish it is - In the end, ask students to make a list of wishes they are most interested in so that they can share with their family when they return home Homework: - Learn vocabulary and review all what they have learnt in this unit - Be ready for Feedback:
