Especially for freshmen in English Faculty, finding a suitable method for the English self-study process is really necessary.While the internet is having a booming era, new forms of communication are attracting more and more viewers Internet users - especially young people, start looking for a place that satisfies all the needs of information, entertainment, connectivity and social networking that are launched to meet all those needs.For students, the benefits that social networks bring have an immense role in self-studying English of students at TMU Students through social networking links to work together as a group of people with the same goal of self-learning English, with interest, online exchange, help each other improve English proficiency and English skills.Not only that, social networks also expand the scope, allowing students from different schools not only in the country but also abroad to create sites to help each other learn This is one of the channels to help them improve learning efficiency, share knowledge and materials.Nowaday, the world has hundreds of different social networks like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, Each social network has a certain success based on its compatibility with cultural, geographic factors Facebook and YouTube are social networks that are commonly used in Vietnam In addition, having some appearances of other social networks such as: Zing me, YuMe, Tamtay,etc Many young people, especially the first-year students in English Faculty who have just entered the university environment are still having difficulties and surprise during their study, the use of social networks will help very much in their English self-learning process.In addition to studying on the school under the guidance of teachers, they use social networks to provide more knowledge and exchange skills to learn English with others Not only that, networks also provides an opportunity an of taking English courses lu for students to interact with foreigners who not need to go abroad or lose the cost n va Besides convenience, social networks also lead to negative phenomena among current students One of the most remarkable phenomena is the "online addiction" phenomenon.For students, spending too much time using social networks also has many consequences such as: reduce labor productivity, poor health (vision loss, insomnia, mental fatigue, ).A large amount of information that is not original, uncensored or social networking groups with bad intentions will cause them to lose money without any effect in the learning process.Besides, the dissemination of information from social networks is quick and easy, creating an environment for the bad guys to exploit and entice,which make to reduce the students' will to study Students account for the most number of members using social networks during their self-study process.However, they are faced with multi-dimensional impacts daily, affecting both awareness and behavior in the process of using social networks.However, the problem of social network impacts on students, especially first-year students of English Faculty at Thuongmai University has not been deeply studied The problem is: How is the impact of social networks on students major in English? What social network has changed to their habits and needs during the English self-learning process? These questions need to be addressed by practical, concrete surveys and based on solid theoretical background The things mentioned above are the reasons why I choose “ The Influences of Social Networks on English Self-Study Process of Freshmen in English Faculty, Thuongmai University ” for my graduate thesis Hopefully, it will be beneficial to learners of Vietnamese, who have a passion for English 1.2.Previous Studies Considered as a new communication channel, the explosive growth of social networks attracted the attention of researchers In the world, there have been many research projects, articles on social networks and young people that have attracted many achievements, such as: Research: “Social Networks and Internet Usages by The Young Generations”(Ehrhardt,2013) This study has shown the habits of young lu people when using social networks and the internet, comparing these habits with an real life behaviors as well as the views of the younger generation on social networks in modern society n va networks At the same time, the study also emphasizes the importance of social A different study of with a multiple name “Young and Old Use Social Media for Surprisingly Different Reasons” (Ladegaard,2014) indicates the reasons that people participate in social networking How it has changed their habits and lifestyles as well as the trend of using social networks in the future Besides, there are also many discussions around the negative and positive impacts of social networks on the younger generation, such as Debate.org website with the title: “ Is Social Networking Bad for Today’s Generation?”.There have been a lot of opinions in the debate, of which 58% agree that social networks are having negative impacts on the younger generation, 42% disagree and tell the advantages that social networks bring In Vietnam, Social networks have only been introduced in recent years but it has also attracted many people's attention and interest There are many studies as well as articles written about the power of social networks in the multilateral media CHAPTER IV: RECOMMENDATION AND SUGGESTIONS 4.1.Problems and suggestions of research topics From studying the impact of social networks on freshmen of English Faculty at Thuongmai university, with the obtained results, I can draw some conclusions: It can be seen that, social network plays an important role in life and greatly influences on the English self-learning process and psychological life of students at Thuongmai University Especially in the period of globalization - modernization, the existence of social networks already making learning become more effective and is gradually becoming a close friend of students Therefore, the majority of students who randomly participate in the research use social networks and believe that social networks play an important role in their lives Through researching, social networking sites that students often use a lot are Facebook, YouTube and Zing.mp3,etc lu Behavior of using social media is expressed through external actions such as: an time, frequency of use, purpose of use on social media Research results show that n va most of the students at Thuongmai University know how to arrange time to access the network appropriately However, there are still some people who use social media too much in the day, from 4-5 hours, taking up a lot of students' time in a day Besides, some students still not have the proper learning method which leads to the use of social networks for learning purposes is not really effective Thus, in addition to helping students to exchange and connect friends in learning as well as life, the social network has a negative impact on each student The research results also showed that Thuongmai University’s students were also aware of the concept of social networks, the role of social networks expressed through sharing good content highly appreciated by the community However, in the investigation process, there are still some students who are not aware of the social network, which leads to inappropriate behavior.This is the reason for the existence of some problems when using social networks on English self-learning process.Detail as below: 34 4.1.1.The first problem 4.1.1.1.Neglect by other social networking sites With its outstanding benefits, social networks are becoming lively, rich, attractive and expressing media that can completely replace the position of many other information channels in the future.We cannot deny the entertainment function of social networks Social networks help you relax with funny songs, sayings, clips and help you temporarily forget about worry and worries from life with extremely interesting games In stressful lessons, these benefits are extremely necessary for the students.You can also chat with friends via messages, comments But if you're still bored? Social networks let you relive those moments of chatter, innocence by posting selfie photos.Moreover, the feature that every social application has is communicating, making friends, expanding relationships with friends and eliminating geographical distance What better way to talk to your idol or a famous MC? and it will take you a while to read and learn and you will forget about your main point is learning.while studying, suddenly there was a message from a friend on Facebook, you can also be willing to give up to answer their message It will easily take you to that conversation for many minutes or even hour.By the time you come back to your studies, you no longer remember what you are doing, how much you are learning This also makes you feel like you lose interest in learning, no longer feeling excited with studying.Such interrupt learning will not really bring about the expected effect Or it will take you a while to complete your self-study 4.1.1.2.Suggestions for the first problem From my own experience and through the research process, I have come up with some suggestions to minimize this negative impact of social networks:  Before learning,each student needs to define his or her main goals and tasks Need to set goals that must be achieved in one day or in a certain period of 35 time For example, in learning English, every day you make a clear plan, the first day you will practice pronunciation, the second day takes time to improve the vocabulary and the next day is to focus on one thing you are doing and not focus on too many things at the same time It is really necessary for you to turn off unnecessary applications or unrelated websites so it can't interrupt your learning Sometimes if you feel stressed during your studies, you can also relax by listening to a song or reading useful news But remember just take a break in a certain time and completely stop the learning.You should not study and entertain at the same time This will ensure that until you return to your studies you will not be interrupted and lose interest in your lesson.Especially for learning 4.1.2.1.Limitation in choosing the appropriate information channel n From the results of the interview method I presented above, there are some students who believe that because social networking is without any effect.Besides,each information and method on each website is different but not all have been updated Therefore, applying different channels and websites at the same time will lead to information that is not consistent and learning will easily become disordered, not obtain certain results 36 4.1.2.2.Suggestions for the second problem Below are some suggestions for this problem: In the process of self-learning English, you should choose for yourself a suitable learning method and reputable websites that are suitable for your level There are many good and famous websites but not all of them bring a effect results for you because it is not really suitable for your level and skills You can consult your friends and teachers about some reputable and appropriate English selflearning websites Currently, some prestigious English centers also regularly shares good methods of learning English with very useful information.You can refer to some famous English learning exist many problems The problems I have listed above are popular issues, most common problem among young people in general and students 41 at Thuongmai university in particular.In addition to the research process, along with the accumulated experience of myself during years of intensive English training in the university environment, I propose a number of specific suggestions for each the problem Hopefully, this solutions will help the freshman at Thuongmai University who still have a lot of confusion on learning English will find yourself suitable learning methods and bring high efficiency 4.2.Limitations of the study 4.2.1.Some specific limitations of the study After nearly months of studying the graduation thesis, I draw some specific limitations for my own research as follows: 4.2.1.1 Limitations on references Reference materials play a significant role in scientific research activities To ensure a complete and accurate scientific research, students need to have have a quantity that is almost inadequate (2) Although the current Internet resources are becoming diversified and plentiful, it is difficult to verify the accuracy and basics that scientific research needs In the current technological age, it is no longer difficult to search a certain problem Currently, the Internet has many different streams of information and includes false information.That is reason why I also have difficulties in the process of selecting information and data to carry out the scientific research 4.2.1.2.Limitations on lacking of knowledge and basic skills in scientific research methods Currently, in the training program of the English Faculty, students have access to scientific research methods but that is only on the theoretical basis but not yet applied much Therefore, I realized that this is one of the leading difficulties in conducting research I was still very surprised and did not know where to start and 42 how to start.It took me a period of time to learn and to be guided by the teacher in order to determine for myself the right way to study 4.2.1.3.Limitations on presentation skills Regarding the presentation problem, all people think that this is not a big problem, can be done after the content has been completed But besides scientific content, the presentation of science is a direct determinant of the persuasiveness of the topic.The presentation of the list of references, the abbreviations, appendices, abstracts,etc must follow the standards of the guiding documents so I sometimes encounter certain difficulties Technical errors while presenting topics such as font errors, drawings, charts, etc also make the topic unfulfilled Besides, because of limitations on computing ability, sometimes the presentation becomes complicated and may not be perfect 4.2.2.Suggestions for further research From the difficulties in the process of doing scientific research, the author lu would like to give some recommendations to improve the quality of scientific an research of students in English Faculty in particular and the entire students of TMU futher studies n va in general.These proposals will also make my research become more complete in Firstly, the addition of industry-related titles at the library of university should also be taken into account, so that students can find appropriate and orthodox materials and not spend too much time on data collection search Secondly, the school and teacher should create conditions for students to approach scientific research methods early, help students better understand scientific research Thereby students will have a different perspective on scientific research, instead of thinking that scientific research is a difficult thing to implement Not only that, approaching research method subject also promotes the excitement of research in students and helps students have more skills to conduct research in the most accurate way Finally, the author wishes to propose the organization of building more specialized clubs as well as scientific research teams Through clubs, students can exchange, discuss as well as share the experiences gained in the process of building 43 ideas and completing research Besides, when participating in the clubs mentioned above, students are also exchanged to share topics related to specialization as well as English learning skills, thereby having conditions to improve their knowledge With the limitations and suggestions presented above, the author hopes that Thuongmai University will understand the difficulties that students of 44 CONCLUSION Today, social networks become an indispensable part of society It has been and will bring to the human life the day many great utilities, maximizing functions.Especially for students who belong to English Faculty, it is an indispensable tool on the way to conquer their English However, social networking is also a place where many worries arise We cannot completely blame social networks because it is simply a tool, a means created to link people together all over the world Because of not understanding the right purpose of social networks, students have overused it, leading to the existence of negative effects.It all comes from behavior and awareness among individuals who use social networks Therefore, every student in English Faculty in particular and all students of TMU in general should understand the measures from themselves and the community to participate in social networking in the most positive way lu In addition, each individual should demonstrate
