INITIATIVE TOPIC: APPLYING SOME APPLICATIONS TO IMPROVE PRONUNCIATION FOR 10TH GRADE STUDENTS Subject: English School year: 2022-2023 NGHE AN DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING PHAN DANG LUU HIGH SCHOOL o0o - INITIATIVE TOPIC: APPLYING SOME APPLICATIONS TO IMPROVE PRONUNCIATION FOR 10TH GRADE STUDENTS Subject: English Full name: Hoàng Thị Hà Group: English Phone number: 0979119665 Email: haht.pdl@nghean.edu.vn School: Phan Dang Luu high school School year: 2022-2023 TABLE OF CONTENTS I INTRODUCTION I.1 Reasons for choosing the topic I.2 Research purposes: I.3 Research subjects: I.4 Scope of research II MAIN CONTENT II.1 Theoretical basis of the problem II.2 The state of the matter II.3 Measures taken to solve the problem II.3.1 Elsa-speak II.3.2 American English pronunciation II.3.3 Say It: English Pronunciation II.3.4 Pronuncian- English pronunciation II.3.5 English Pronunciation Tutor III RESULTS IV CONCLUSIONS V LIST OF REFERENCES PAGES I– INTRODUCTION I.1 Reasons for choosing the topic We live in a society that is constantly evolving information technology, science and technology, that development is making people more and more civilized Joining that flow Ministry of Education and Training always encourages the classroom teachers to apply the development of the company technology in all area of teaching to bring Vietnamese education to the next level new high- a civilized and modern education During Covid-19, most student have to study online, so each student has a computer or smartphone, most of which are phones, so downloading applications is quite convenient Pronunciation is one of the basic and decisive skills for those who start learning English Pronunciation is the guide, the perfect link to develop other skills such as Speaking, Listening and Reading and Gramma However, Pronunciation is also the most important and difficult problem that non-native English speakers face when learning English Improper pronunciation can lead to negative impressions, misunderstandings and ineffective communication Therefore, as an English teacher, I want to explore some common difficulties that Vietnamese students face when they learn to pronounce English so that I can teach effectively and help them communicate more confidently I think these four major features can cause problems for them Firstly, the complexity of tense and lax vowels in English creates confusion for Vietnamese learners Secondly, a variety of dialect differences and consonant positions can confuse Consonant clusters also lead Vietnamese speakers to make mistakes when they speak English Thirdly, the stress in the English language varies widely Where the Vietnamese language is syllable timed, the English language is stress-timed Finally, the intonation is also a challenge for Vietnamese learners -Most teachers try to find suitable teaching methods to make students interested in lessons However, teachers have not been able to practice many parts of pronunciation and reading for students because there is not much time in a period and the number of students is too large in a class In addition, teaching at all grades is mainly focused on grammar and exercises, because learners focus too much on grammar and writing and neglect listening and speaking skills If students mispronounce certain words, the teachers not pay attention to correct them, leading to the formation of difficult habits to correct I myself, as a secondary school English teacher, have over a number of years of working, I clearly understand the characteristics of the subject method I am in charge of I always research and explore to improve the quality of teaching and learning English From these concerns, I began to research through books, newspapers, the Internet, through friends and some seasoned experience colleagues for information and learning methods that helped me resolve these preoccupation Since then, I have boldly put my pen to research the topic: “APPLYING SOME APPLICATIONS / SOFTWARE PROGRAMMES TO IMPROVE PRONUNCIATION FOR 10TH GRADE STUDENTS” I.2 Research purposes: Using software and regularly practicing skills in English is available, economical but effective solution Most of the voices in the software are native speakers, so the accent and tone are very clear and accurate Our teachers and students only need to read along, practise through the exercises to gradually improve their level and capacity These pieces of software mainly focus on three skills: listening, speaking and reading, if we are weak in a part, we should practice that part more During the learning process, if I don't hear well or can't keep up, I will ask the computer to it over and over again without spending much effort and money This software will help students self-study and practice to reach the top on their path Most textbooks not have phonics training, little listening and not much time for speaking With these software, students are free to choose a fast or slow tone, difficult or easy songs and with vivid visual images that will help them enjoy and focus more on their English learning I.3 Research subjects: - Subjects of the study are students of grade 10 I.4 Scope of research: Time: Start studying from September 2022 Complete in May 2023 II – RESEARCH CONTENT II.1 Theoretical basis: Starting from the "student-centered" point of view, teaching and learning methods have undergone fundamental changes The teacher is not the only person who holds knowledge and imparts knowledge, but only a guide, facilitator, mentor, tester, and pave the way for learners to be more self-directed Learners are no longer passive recipients of knowledge, but are the center of the teaching process, actively creating in the learning process in order to achieve high results in learning and know how to apply it to real life The Resolution of the Second Central Committee, term VIII (December 1996) affirms that "It is necessary to renew the methods of education and training, overcome the one-way transmission, and train the learners to become creative thinking habits Step by step applying advanced methods and modern means to the process teaching, ensuring conditions and time for self-study and self-research for students" From the points of view in the application of software for teaching English is absolutely necessary, helping teachers and students more convenient and more effective in teaching and learning English II.2 Measures taken to solve the problems: Learning pronunciation is always one of the most difficult and overlooked English skills for English learners To help learners feel more interested in learning pronunciation, there have been a lot of software that teaches English pronunciation In this article, we will list suitable English pronunciation learning software on the phone In the process of developing the measures, I used the following software during my teaching and also taught the students how to use them – The utility that the software brings is the software used free to download through websites: easy to use, easy to read and pronounce If you use these software, they will help you develop your skills, standards for stress and intonation In addition, the software also helps promote the active self-study, self-improvement and self-improvement of their knowledge by selftraining through the software However, the software is available online and free to download but very few people know and apply this problem, and to use the software we need a desktop computer or a laptop - this is also the biggest difficulty of teachers and students in today's increasingly difficult economic conditions After the teacher chooses international standard English pronunciation learning software, the teacher introduces some apps / software and selects about three standard and easy ones to ask students to learn Teachers can ask their students to download at least three apps because each app has the same sounds to practice but has different exercises so students have more opportunities to practice that sound The teacher introduces the name of apps, how to download them, how to study and learn what is in the apps II.3 APPLICABLE SOFTWARE Support Names of software international phonetic symbol table Record your voice while practicing Download capacity -
