INFORMATION OF THE DISSERTATION Title: Trade credit: A case study on shrimp farmers in the Mekong Delta Major: Finance - Banking Full name of Doctoral student: Truong Diem Kieu Major code: 62340201 Course: 2015 (2) Supervisor: Assoc Dr Le Khuong Ninh University: Can Tho University Astract of the dissertation content The thesis “Trade credit: A case study on shrimp farmers in the Mekong Delta” consisted of contents, such as (1) Assessing the actual use of trade credit by shrimp farming households in the Mekong Delta; (2) Estimating factors affecting the amount of credit purchases of shrimp farmers in the Mekong Delta; (3) Evaluation of the effect of trade credit on the technical efficiency of shrimp farming households in the Mekong Delta; (4) Propose solutions and policy implications to help increase funding from trade credit, rationalize the use of trade credit to improve the technical efficiency of shrimp farming households in the Mekong Delta New findings of dissertation This study contributes to clarifying the theoretical base of trade credit in a systematic way A comprehensive empirical test of theories of trade credit The results of the estimation of factors affecting the amount of credit money show that there were 11 factors that influenced the amount of credit money purchased of shrimp farmers, included time of acquaintance, familiarity, age, education level, farming experience, land area owned, savings ability, cost, access to bank credit, late payment history and trade credit interest rates In which, familiarity, late payment history and trade credit interest rates are new factors discovered in this study In addition, the results of estimating the effect of trade credit on the technical efficiency of farmers showed that the amount of credit money has a positive effect on the technical efficiency of shrimp farming households These results showed a certain contribution to the field of rural finance 3 Study on application/applicability in practical production, problems need to be addressed: This study focused on trade credit, a relatively new source of funding in the rural credit market The analytical results of trade credit use by shrimp farmers provide empirical evidence on the prevalence of trade credit in shrimp farming activities in the Mekong Delta Moreover, the results of estimation the effect of trade credit on the technical efficiency of shrimp farmers in the Mekong Delta are a scientific base with practical values to help scientists and policy administrator refer to the planning to improve the technical efficiency of shrimp farming households through rational use of trade credit Which contribute to promote the sustainable development of shrimp farming in the Mekong Delta The issue addressed in further study is to with a larger sample size and in more crops On that base, the study can compare the effect of trade credit on technical efficiency among households with different farming operations or in different localities, as well as evaluating whether technical efficiency poses a reverse effect on the trade credit needed by shrimp farmers in the long term Supervisor Doctoral student PGS.TS Le Khuong Ninh Truong Diem Kieu Verified by Dean of School of Graduate
