report include the details of constructional plants, procedure and sequence of construction for reinforced earth walls, the method of compaction and temporary supporting the facing panel The method of controlling surface and ground water, protecting earthworks as well as monitoring the movement also are illustrated in this report Components 2.1 Concrete Leveling Pad - A 200mm deep by 350mm wide pad of unreinforced concrete that serves as a flat and level starting surface for placing panels 2.2 Precast Concrete Facing Panels - Cruciform “A” panels are used as example “A/2” denotes one row of nos of reinforcing strip (tie strips) per panel “A/2,2” denotes rows with nos of reinforcing strips each “A/2,3” denotes rows of reinforcing strip with strips on top row, strips on second row - Panels designated “3”, “4”, “5”, “6”, “7”, “8”, “10”, “B” and “D” will be special size panels placed on top course of the wall - Formwork All the formwork shall be made of steel After units have been stripped and removed from the moulds, all mould pieces will be thoroughly cleared by means of scraper / chisel or compressed air-hose The formwork steel plates are then assembled onto the final position with all fasteners fully tightened - Box-out of lifting The box-out of lifting points in the products are put into the right position by fastening bolts Detail of box-out of lifting see Appendix D A thin coat of mould release agent shall then be applied to the side surfaces of mould and the base of mould - Reinforcement The rebar cages for the precast units shall be fabricated on purpose made jigs to ensure the cover, spacing and dimensional tolerances are maintained and comply with the working drawings and relevant specification Cover spacer blocks will be attached to the rebar cage to ensure that the specified cover is achieved - Tie point The tie points are connected to the steel frame which is on the top of the mould to ensure that RE I N F OR C E D E AR T H VI ET N AM , Tr ang Th i, Hano i- Vi et na m Tel : (84) 38 26 14 16 Fax : (84) 38 26 11 18 Email : ltnha@reinforced-earth.com.vn the specified cover is achieved - (see attached drawing) Concrete Pouring Mould dimension shall be checked before pouring of concrete Concrete casting and compaction shall be done properly and compacted by use of external vibrators After compaction of the concrete, the top surface of the units shall be troweled flat with the aid of a steel trowel - Demoulding Demoulding and lifting of the precast units shall be done once concrete achieves a strength of 10 Mpa 2.3 Reinforcing Strips - The ribbed steel strips are supplied in sizes and lengths determined by the design of the structure The strips are hot dip galvanized and are designed to be bolted to the tie strips embedded in the back of the facing panels 2.4 Fasteners - Reinforcing strips are connected to facing panels with M12 Grade 10.9 bolts and nuts 2.5 Joint Materials - Rubber pad, 85mm x 100mm x 20mm thick for the horizontal joint 2.6 Selected Fill - Selected fill conforming to TAI specifications or drawings shall be used within the reinforced volume The selected fill shall be unloaded within the reinforced earth block or the place beside the RE wall to avoid the second handling RE I N F OR C E D E AR T H VI ET N AM , Tr ang Th i, Hano i- Vi et na m Tel : (84) 38 26 14 16 Fax : (84) 38 26 11 18 Email : ltnha@reinforced-earth.com.vn Equipment and Tools - 4T vibrating roller - Crowbars and pinch bars - Kobelco SK120 Excavator Backhoe (28000lb) or similar - Nylon slings or four point cable lifts for unloading panels - Small hand operated compactor - 1200mm level - Lifting hook - Box of crescent wrench 19mm - Spacer bar - Claw hammer - Hardwood wedge - Sledge hammer - Clamp - Chalk line - Bracing for first course of panels (Lumber or Timber) - Brooms or brushes - Plumb bob - Lifting clutches Figure RE I N F OR C E D E AR T H VI ET N AM , Tr ang Th i, Hano i- Vi et na m Tel : (84) 38 26 14 16 Fax : (84) 38 26 11 18 Email : ltnha@reinforced-earth.com.vn Basic Construction Procedure The Reinforced Earth construction procedure is repetitive and comprising the following: - Pour leveling pad - Erect and brace first course of panels - Spread and compact backfill up to lowest level of tie strips - Bolt reinforcing strips to panels - Backfill to top of half panels - Erect second course of panels - Repeat cycle of backfilling, connecting strips, and erecting panels to completion Details of sequence of work 5.1 Excavation Excavate to the level and alignment as stated in the contract drawings (Figure 2), except in excavations in rock and in areas of fill formed of rock fill material, formations shall be compacted to obtain a relative compaction of at least 98% to a depth of 200mm below the formation by main contractor Figure RE I N F OR C E D E AR T H VI ET N AM , Tr ang Th i, Hano i- Vi et na m Tel : (84) 38 26 14 16 Fax : (84) 38 26 11 18 Email : ltnha@reinforced-earth.com.vn 5.2 Leveling Pad Pour concrete leveling pad (Figure 3) The pad should be of concrete has compression strength at 28 days age is 21Mpa, cured for 12 hours The concrete finish must be smooth and flat and must not vary from the design elevation by more than 5mm in any 3000mm in length Perform the vertical alignment check during and after formwork erection by using a plumb bob Make any changes if necessary to assure that final verticality is within tolerances Perform the horizontal alignment checking by comparing against a reference line marked away from the pad during and after formwork erection Figure 5.3 If the drawings call for the RE wall structure to have a step-up in elevation, generally pour the higher leveling pad so that its surface is 375mm to 750mm above those of the lower pad depending on the drawings Leave a 305mm gap between the higher pad and the start of the lower pad at the step-up location (Figure 4) The void in between would be filled up by cement mortar to ensure that no selected fill would be leaked out As the RE wall is designed to have minimum embedment depth of 500mm, the void in the step-up shall be located under the toe line RE I N F OR C E D E AR T H VI ET N AM , Tr ang Th i, Hano i- Vi et na m Tel : (84) 38 26 14 16 Fax : (84) 38 26 11 18 Email : ltnha@reinforced-earth.com.vn Slope toe line in front of RE Wall Min 500mm Fill up the Void with Cement Mortar 375mm to 305mm 750mm Figure 5.4 Alignment Snap a chalk line setting out (or reference line) on the surface of the leveling pad to establish a correct alignment (control line) for the wall 5.5 Place the first “C2” (or “C3”) half panel (1) on the leveling pad (Figure 5) Align the face of the panel along the control line Use 1200mm level to set vertical alignments and horizontal levels R EI N F O RC E D E A RT H VI ET N AM , Tr ang Th i, Hano i- Vi et na m Tel : (84) 38 26 14 16 Fax : (84) 38 26 11 18 Email : ltnha@reinforced-ea rth.com.vn Figure 5.6 Place the second half panel (2) on the leveling pad Align it with the control line, and set it the correct distance from panel (1) using the spacer bars Leave the spacer bar in place Check levels 5.7 Panels must be given a slight batter, or tilt, toward the backfill in order to compensate for a subsequent outward movement, which occurs during backfill placement and compaction This movement will tend to push the panel to a true vertical position 5.8 Vertical Alignment Check during Construction, check the overall verticality of the structure using a plumb bob This should be done on panels completely backfilled Make any changes in batter necessary to assure that final verticality is within tolerances, in subsequent lifts of panels 5.9 Place the third half panel (3) aligning the panel with the control line 5.10 Remove the spacer bar and erect the first full panel (4) between the two half panels (1) and (2) (Figure 6) Centre the panel to ensure equal vertical joints Check horizontal level and prop vertical Clamp the panel to panels (1) and (2) Tighten clamps sufficiently to hold the panel in position without movement RE I N F OR C E D E AR T H VI ET N AM , Tr ang Th i, the spacer bar to ensure spacing Check levels 5.12 Remove the spacer bar and erect the second full panel (6) between the two half panels (2) and (3), using the spacer bar to ensure the correct distance between the new full panel and the previous full panel 5.13 Continue along the wall alternating between placing half panels and full panels 5.14 Use filter cloth (or Geo-textile sheet) to adhere on both vertical and horizontal joint of the precast panel and place rubber pad in between the horizontal joint of precast panel as depicted on (Figure 7) RE I N F OR C E D E AR T H VI ET N AM
