Scope Permitted deviations This European Standard specifies permitted deviations and preferred sizes of European hardwood sawn timber at a moisture content of 20 % For a specified number of pieces of hardwood sawn timber of the same target thickness and/or width, the average thickness and/or width shall not be less than the target thickness and/or width If the timber is for structural use, the permitted deviations shall be those specified in EN 336 The permitted deviations, at a moisture content of 20 %, are the following Normative references This European Standard incorporates, by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed hereafter For dated references, 13183-2 The reference moisture content is 20 % Change in size due to changes in moisture content Unless there is evidence to the contrary, it is assumed that the thickness and width of a piece of timber will increase by 0,25 % for every % of moisture content higher than 20 % up to 30 %, and will decrease by 0,25 % for every % of moisture content lower than 20 % The above values are independent BSI 08-2000 BS EN 1313-2:1999 National annex NA (informative) Reduction of sawn hardwoods by processing NA.1 General Processing of hardwoods to accurate finished sizes involves reductions in size which vary with the size, the process and the product The figures in Table NA.1 have been established in the United Kingdom as being economic, workable and not wasteful NA.2 Reductions The recommended reductions appropriate to some end uses and products appear in Table NA.1 Any finished sizes in British Standards covering particular hardwood products and components will take precedence over those in Table NA.1 For other end uses not specifically mentioned, the same figures as those for one of the end uses listed may be adopted Intermediate figures would be unlikely to achieve any greater accuracy and would tend to confuse If the timber is for structural use, the reduction limits specified in BS 5756 apply NA.3 Permitted deviations For all finished sizes after processing, permitted deviations of ±0,5 mm are recommended If the timber is for structural use, the permitted deviations specified in BS EN 336 apply Table NA.1 Ð Recommended reductions from sawn size to finished target
