extent to which hazards are covered is indicated in the scope of this standard These hazards are specific to slurry tankers The hazards that are common to all agricultural machines (self-propelled, mounted, semi-mounted and trailed) will be dealt with in a standard currently in preparation (prEN 1553) The requirements of the European Directive on pressure equipment will be dealt with by the revision of this standard Scope This standard specifies specific safety requirements and their verification for the design and construction of all semi-mounted, trailed and self-propelled slurry tankers, including their spreading or injecting devices, intended for spreading or injecting slurry which are operated by either pneumatic or mechanical power NOTE Braking requirements are not included in this standard These will be studied during its revision depending on the development of European regulations In addition, it specifies the type of information on safe working practices to be provided by the manufacturer The list of significant hazards dealt with in this standard is given in Annex A Annex A also indicates the hazards which have not been dealt with Environmental aspects distributing slurry 3.2 mechanically powered slurry tanker Machine for which the energy required for filling the tank and for spreading is directly provided by a pump 3.3 pneumatically powered slurry tanker Machine for which the energy required for filling the tank and for spreading is provided by an air compressor that creates respectively either vacuum or pressure in the tank 3.4 floating position Position in which the slurry injecting devices enter into the ground under the effect of their own weight 3.5 position with weight transfer Position in which the slurry injecting devices enter into the ground under the effect of their own weight plus a vertical downward force 3.6 filling arm Articulated device intended to support the pipe used for the filling of the tank Safety requirements and/or measures 4.1 General Machines shall comply as appropriate with EN 292 for hazards which are not dealt with and especially with Annex A of EN 292-2:1991/A1:1995 when EN 292 does not give precise requirements Unless otherwise specified in this standard, the machine shall comply with the requirements of prEN 1553:1998 and with tables 1, 3, and of EN 294:1992 NOTE 4.2 The dynamic stability of the slurry tanker will be dealt with by the revision of the standard Requirements for all types of slurry tankers 4.2.1 4.2.1.1 Manual controls Manual control of the distributing operation It shall be possible to start and stop the distributing operation from the driving position of the tractor or selfpropelled machine BS EN 707:1999+A1:2009 EN 707:1999+A1:2009 (E) 4.2.1.2 Manual control for the compressor or the pump Preferably, it shall be possible to actuate the manual control for the compressor or the pump from the driving position of the tractor or self-propelled machine Otherwise one manual control, accessible from the ground, shall be located on each side of the tank at a minimum horizontal distance of 550 mm from the central axis of PTO drive shaft, measured perpendicular to this axis (see example in figure 1) The functions linked to the different positions of the manual control shall be clearly identified BS EN 707:1999+A1:2009 EN 707:1999+A1:2009 EN 707:1999+A1:2009 (E) 4.2.2 4.2.2.1 Tank Openings The tank shall have sufficiently sized and placed opening(s) to allow effective cleaning of all of the tank interior or to eliminate any clogging without the necessity for personnel to enter the tank Openings in the upper part of the tank greater than 400 mm in diameter, or if they are rectangular of more than 400 mm x 300 mm, shall be provided with a grating which can only be removed by the use of tools The apertures in the grating shall not exceed these dimensions 4.2.2.2 Covers for openings Covers on the upper part of the tank shall be designed, or fitted with a device, to prevent their unintentional closing Where a cover is hydraulically controlled, it shall be possible to actuate the manual control from the driving position of the tractor or self-propelled machine and the hydraulic hose coupling which connects to the tractor shall be clearly identified 4.2.2.3 Partitions Tanks having a capacity equal to or greater than 000 l shall be equipped with anti-surge partition(s) according to table The partition(s) shall be perpendicular to the direction of movement of the machine and each of them shall functional test and positional measurements 6.1 Information for use Instruction handbook Comprehensive instructions and information on all aspects of maintenance and the safe use of the machine shall be provided in the instruction handbook It shall comply with 5.5 of EN 292-2:1991 In particular, the following points shall be emphasized: a) that there are toxic and inflammable gases produced in the tank and it is dangerous to handle a naked flame near the equipment and the instructions on how to avoid such hazards; b) that the safety equipment (particularly the safety valve) is not to be improperly adjusted or made ineffective; c) the procedures to be followed in order to remove any stones or any other foreign matter from inside the tank without entering into it; d) that it is forbidden to enter the tank without breathing equipment or taking some other equivalent precaution; e) that the engine of the tractor or of the machine shall be stopped before any intervention on the slurry tanker; f) the need to use a PTO drive shaft equipped with a guard in good condition; g) the need to ensure, before moving the slurry tanker that the braking system, if any, is connected and that it functions correctly; h) the relevant characteristics of the original tyres (load, speed, dimensions and inflation pressure) ; the track width in relation to the slope; i) the maximum design travel speed and the need to adjust the speed in relation to the load particularly when turning and on slopes; j) the need to empty the spreading or injecting booms of their contents before transport, maintenance or storage; k) the procedures to be followed to eliminate toxic or inflammable gases from the tank before any welding or maintenance work is done; l) the functions and the operating instructions for all the manual controls; m) the risks of using the slurry tanker for transporting or for spreading products other than slurry, water, sewage sludge and especially those which may damage the pump or the tank or overload it (lime, liquid fertilizers ); n) the need to keep the tanker clean enough to ensure all marking information remains legible; o) the risk of unintentional contact with overhead power lines for machines for which the height of the filling arm and/or the height of the boom can exceed m 12 BS EN 707:1999+A1:2009 EN 707:1999+A1:2009 (E) In addition, the instruction handbook for pneumatic powered slurry tankers shall emphasize: p) that covers and openings in the tank have to be correctly shut, and the tightening torque in Nm specified; q) the frequency and procedures for checks related to pressurising the tank: visual check of welds, pressure gauge and safety valve; r) the risk related to the storage of the tank when it is under pressure or not empty, particularly with regard to the risk of pressurisation caused by fermentation of the contents; s) that repairs are only carried out by a qualified repairer; t) that external work on the tank shall only be carried out when there is no internal pressure in the tank 6.2 Marking The marking shall comply with 5.4 of EN 292-2:1991 All machines shall be marked legibly and indelibly with at least the following information: !the business name and full address of the manufacturer and, where applicable, his authorised representative;" year of construction; !the designation of the machinery;" designation of series or type; serial number, if any; nominal rotation frequency and direction of rotation of the power input connection (marked by an arrow), when applicable; allowable pressure; capacity of the tank The spreading or injecting booms shall have their mass legibly and indelibly marked Compressors shall be marked legibly and indelibly with the following information: serial number; flow rate; year of construction; allowable pressure, rotation frequency and direction of compressor rotation (marked by an arrow) In addition the following shall be affixed on the machine: a warning indicating the possible presence of toxic gases in the tank; pictograms corresponding to explosion and to poison hazards; a warning that mentions that it is forbidden to climb onto the slurry tanker while it is operating; 13 BS EN 707:1999+A1:2009 EN 707:1999+A1:2009 (E) 14 for machines for which the height of the filling arm and/or the height of the boom can exceed m, a warning placed at the driving position of self-propelled machines or at the front of the tank for other machines shall draw the attention to the risk of unintentional contact with overhead power lines BS EN 707:1999+A1:2009 EN 707:1999+A1:2009 (E) Annex A (normative) List of hazards Table A.1 gives the list of hazards based on EN 292-1:1991 and EN 292-2:1991 and annex A of EN 2922:1991/A1:1995 Table A.2 gives the list of hazards due to the mobility of the machine The meaning of the different statements given in the last column (solutions given by this standard) of these tables are: "not relevant": the hazard is not significant for the machine "dealt with": the hazard is significant The measures given in the indicated clauses provide guidance for dealing with the hazard in accordance with the principles of safety integration of EN 292; that means: elimination or reduction of the risk by design, as far as possible; protection measures; information on the residual risks "partly dealt with": the hazard is significant for several parts of the machine The measures given in the indicated clauses deal with this hazard for some of these parts In the other parts where the hazard is significant, other measures, not included in this standard, will have to be applied in order to deal with this hazard "not dealt with": the hazard is significant for the machine but has not been taken into account
