— in 4.2, the pressure of kPa has been added and the force corresponding to each pressure has been added for reference; — in Clause , the conditioning atmosphere has been clarified; — in Clause , the requirement for recording the temperature and humidity has been added; the usable width has been clearly specified; the period o f pressing time has been changed to more flexible; — in Clause 8, items b) and e) have been added ISO 2286 consists of the following parts, under the general title Rubber– or plastics–coated fabrics — Determination of roll characteristics: — — — iv Part 1: Methods for determination of length, width and net mass Part 2: Methods for determination oftotal mass per unit area, per unit area ofcoating and mass per unit area of substrate Part 3: Method for determination of thickness © ISO 2016 – All rights reserved ISO 2286-3:2016(E) Introduction C omp are d with me ta l s , co ate d fabric s a re e as i ly compre s s e d, a nd the me as u re d th ickne s s wi l l dep end s iderably up on the me tho d and pre s s ure employe d T his is p erhap s the s i ngle mo s t i mp or ta nt reason for having a standard method for measuring the thickness of coated fabrics An effort has been made to enable the results to be comparable with measurements of the thickness of textile substrates © ISO 2016 – All rights reserved v INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ISO 2286-3:2016(E) Rubber- or plastics-coated fabrics — Determination of roll characteristics — Part 3: Method for determination of thickness WARNING — Persons using this International Standard should be familiar with normal laboratory practice This International Standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to ensure compliance with any national regulatory conditions Scope T h i s p a r t o f I S O 2 s p e c i fie s a me tho d o f rubb er- a nd plas tics - co ate d fabrics , for the de term i nation, at a s p e c i fie d pre s s u re, o f the th ickne s s i rre s p e c tive o f the typ e o f s ub s trate emp loye d I t i s appl ic able to single-face, double-face and double-texture coated fabrics, as well as materials in which an expanded layer i s i nclude d i n the co ati ng Normative reference T he fol lowi ng i nd i s p en s able c u ments , i n whole or i n p ar t, are normatively re ference d i n th i s c u ment a nd are for its appl ic ation For date d re ference s , on ly the e d ition cite d appl ie s For u ndate d re ference s , the late s t e d ition o f the re ference d c u ment (i nclud i ng any amend ments) appl ie s ISO 2231:1989, Rubber- or plastics-coated fabrics — Standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing Terms and definitions For the pu r p o s e s o f th i s c u ment, the fol lowi ng term s and defi n ition s apply 3.1 thickness distance between the face and the back of a coated fabric, measured as the vertical distance between a re ference plate on which the 3.2 usable width width o f a co ate d and fre e from fabric, fabric res ts and a p aral lel pres ser foot that is applying a pres s ure to the fabric e xclud i ng the s elve dge, wh ich i s s i s tent i n its prop er tie s , u n i form ly fi n i she d u naccep table flaws Apparatus 4.1 Dial gauge , o f the deadweight typ e, des igned to regis ter the vertical dis tance b etween the b earing surfaces of a presser foot and reference plate, and equipped with a dial graduated to give a direct readout f 4.2 to be obtained using at least one of the presser foot sizes f o the thicknes s to the neares t , mm The gauge s hall b e calib rated in s uch a way as to p ermit at leas t o ne o the p res s ures s p ecified in 4.2 Circular pressure foot , with a s mo o th, flat s ur face and a diameter o f no t les s than mm, cap ab le o f ap p lying o ne o r mo re o f the © ISO 2016 – All rights reserved fo llo wing p res s ures : ISO 2286-3:2016(E) a) b) c) d) kPa ± 0,2 kPa;
