Information Technology (IT) plays a decisive role in the development of human civilization Most of our recent inventions are attributed to advancements in technology Technological innovations have positive impacts on every area of our lives This means that IT has enhanced socialization as well as improved labor productivity Technology is strongly linked to the improvement of the comprehensive education The application of IT has a strong effect on the method of teaching, making lessons understandable among students Therefore, utilizing IT in classrooms has been a strong development at school in recent years English is now considered as one of the most important subjects in high schools Therefore, the requirements for foreign language teachers are more rigorous This means that teachers should apply more new teaching methods which enhance the quality and the efficiency of delivering knowledge Providing review lessons is one of the most essential parts of the lecture process It is the fact that the preparation of review lessons is not as effective as expected due to the boring activities and the limited amount of time For some main grounds mentioned above, I find that Quizizz application can bring many outstanding benefits to the review lessons In order to encourage students to be more active and independent, I boldly choose the topic “The use of Quizizz application in English review lessons for the learning enhancement of 10th grade students” 1.2 Purposes of the study Pursuing the topic “The use of Quizizz application in English review lessons for the learning enhancement of 10 th grade students”, I personally hope that I will have a chance to find an effective method to replace the traditional teaching way by simply applying technological advances in classes Moreover, I hope that it can reduce teachers’ workload as well as attract more students’ attention 1.3 Subjects of the study - A method to effectively create review lessons by Quizizz skkn - The 10th graders at Truong Thi high school 1.4 Methods of the study - Research, analysis, systematization, and generalization of documents related to topics: Theoretical materials for the teaching combined with IT, textbooks as well as other resources to arise students’ interests - Practical investigation through the observation method and surveys - Professional solutions: Discussion and consultation with colleagues in the same departments and co-workers with high qualifications in IT - Pedagogical experimentation: Collect feedback from students on teaching hours using Quizizz Evaluation of the study results according to the knowledge, skills, and attitude of the students CONTENT 2.1 Theoretical basis “Information technology is the science and activity of using computers and other electronic equipment to store and send information.”(Cambridge Dictionary) The application of information technology is the use of information technology in the socio-economic activities, foreign relations, national defense and security, and other activities to improve productivity, quality, and effectiveness of these aspects Widely applying the advances of information technology in scientific research needs to illustrate its advantages in improving the quality of education and training from 2016 to 2020, towards 2025 2.2 Practical problems before applying the initiatives There are many difficulties making review lessons less attractive to students Firstly, the English textbooks have been used for many years, and the contents of the lessons are no longer suitable to improve the language capacity of students The amount of knowledge in some of the lessons seems overwhelming By applying only traditional teaching methods, teachers have to spend much time on preparing a lot of paperwork with a large amount of content However, due to the limited time of the review lessons, teachers may be not able to cover the total of prepared lectures Therefore, students may be required to more homework that puts massive pressure on them Secondly, there is a certain proportion of students who lack grammatical and lexical knowledge to fully understand what teachers have delivered, resulting in students’ frustration Last but not least, the content of review lessons has been skkn introduced in the previous lessons, so students are not often eager to study anymore although they cannot totally master the comprehension of the units Teachers need to find a method to effectively review a large amount of lesson knowledge, while attracting students and reducing pressure on them after their participation in a series of activities at school Besides, the method should play an important role in classifying the students’ levels Quizizz is a learning platform that offers multiple tools to make students more excited and connected By using Quizizz, teachers can create lessons, conduct formative assessments, assign homework as well as have other interactions with students in a captivating way 2.3 Other tools to solve the problems There are some tools which are applied to improve learning capacity of students, especially in review activities - Using flashcards: While using flashcards is a traditional method, it is still widely used in learning today Flashcards can stimulate visual memory It means that the students will remember what they see when studying this way, helping students learn materials more quickly However, it is easy to teach younger students through flashcards, but these can be used in a limited way for students who are studying at high schools due to the range of complex scientific vocabulary in their curriculum - Using notebooks: Teachers could remind students to write down the significant range of knowledge, then check out and give marks to students’ work Besides a few positive aspects, the approach of the usage of notebooks in review lessons contains some drawbacks It depends on the students' self-discipline, but sometimes students find it exhausting and take notes carelessly, leading to the ineffectiveness of the method - Group activities: Teachers divide all students into groups and allow them to discuss about certain topics and play games These activities can enhance the students’ enthusiasm and develop strong interaction among them However, the large number of students may be a reason which makes it tough for teachers to control the whole class and precisely evaluate individual capacities of each student 2.4 Approaches 2.4.1 The advantages of Quizizz application skkn One of the highlights of Quizizz is that it is easy to manipulate Users just need to sign up accounts and select available content in the application to create the exercises With a specific lecture, teachers can compile by themselves and allow students to access and complete assignments The questions will run on the music platform that creates comfort for students The process to complete the exercises is very simple With modern computer systems in the labs and libraries, or even personal mobile phones, teachers can allow their students to the tasks as an amusing game within the last 10-15 minutes All students can participate in the game at the same time and the teachers can evaluate the students' understanding levels more accurately so that they can provide further directions By this way, they not waste much time checking out each student’s answers which other conventional educating methods cannot provide in the review lessons Each student can follow test results and make comparisons with the answers of classmates, increasing the competitive attitude among students and emerging their motivation to study harder Finally, Quizizz application combines all the advantages of other methods mentioned in the previous section, even with the basic account Consequently, teachers can compile many kinds of lessons with different tools that makes their lectures more attractive to students 2.4.2 The use of available resources on Quizizz application Step 1: Create a personal account on Quizizz Visit https://quizizz.com/ on the Google toolbar or web browsers on the electronic devices In the website’s interface, teachers create accounts in "sign up" section: they can sign in with a Google account or Facebook account skkn After signing in, they should choose their teachers' section to take advantage of their own Step 2: Using the multiple choice questions on Quizizz - Press “English” to start learning The exercises are designed on Quizizz as a variety of games Both the questions and answers are shown to help teachers evaluate and select many different options The “filter by” section allows users to select suitable objectives while choosing "play" allows teachers to try the application before providing to students skkn Quizizz allows teachers to copy and adjust the questions that have been created by other users to match their students’ levels with “copy” and “edit” functions Teachers can opt for “new question” to create a new question They also can copy or edit available resources These functions save more time and effort for them Moreover, the teachers from the same department can work together to compose more diversity of materials skkn 2.4.3 Applying Quizizz to the preparation of review exercises 2.4.3.1 The preparation of review questions according to the topics Teachers can 12 skkn 2.5 Pedagogical experimentation 2.5.1 Experimental purposes To assess the effectiveness of the Quizizz application in reviewing the 10th grade English lessons and to evaluate the feasibility of the research, I conducted pedagogical experimentation in classes (10A5 & 10A6) at Truong Thi high school Experimental Objects Truong Thi high school Teacher Experimental class Standard class 10A6 application in the review lesson The demonstration of using Quizizz for review activities in English classes UNIT 3: PEOPLE'S BACKGROUND ( 10th grade textbook) Class: 10A6 Time: 10 minutes School: Truong Thi High School I prepared the exercises for the review lesson by using Quizizz as mentioned in section 2.4 There are some main steps to direct students to the test First, I clicked “My library” folder and chose Unit “People’s Background” 13 skkn There were two main options, “Start a live quiz” to begin a competition in the class, or “Assign homework” to give exercises to students that they could complete at home with a specific deadline I wanted students to participate in the test at the same time in the class After choosing “Start a live quiz”, I chose “Classic” mode Next, I copied passcode/link and sent to students to start doing quiz Students could use many kinds of electronic devices such as laptops and tablets to join the activities Students participating in playing Quizizz used the code to enter the game, they chose a name and then waited to start After total students joined the test, they were allowed to complete the questions and the results would be shown in the leaderboard Their rankings went higher after choosing the right answers, making them more fascinated 14 skkn Some pictures indicating activities in the classes The rate of correct answers showed clearly on the leaderboard, allowing participants to value the difficulties that they faced with so that they could think about the further solutions to overcome the obstacles in the questions They had chances to realize their mistakes to make a clear progress after doing the Quizizz test many times I also used “assign homework” function to give exercises to students with a specific deadline, or “share” function to allow students to finish tasks whenever they wanted 15 skkn During the pedagogical experiment, I selected two classes which had students with the same level of English ability 10A6 was the experimental class in which I applied Quizizz application in my lectures 10A5 was the standard class where I used the traditional teaching methods (without applying Quizizz application) 16 skkn After finishing the experimental process, I asked students to complete some surveys to evaluate the feasibility of applying Quizizz to review lessons, helping me have a comprehensive view of the students' progress 2.5.3 Experimental results After applying Quizizz application to teaching, I can see many positive results Firstly, taking part in exciting games designed on Quizizz helps students relieve stress and recover their energy Secondly, teachers can rank students based on their performances, which increases competition in their classes Therefore, they participate in the games actively and excitedly Most importantly, all students in the class are actively involved in such activities and support each other in reviewing the lessons To understand the students' psychology and the level of interest, I have asked students two quick questions: Question 1: Are you interested in playing Quizizz? Question 2: How you like to review the lessons? The results of the survey are shown in two charts below: Graph 3: The results of the survey Based on statistics in the charts, the percentage of students interested in this method is very high This information suggests that teachers should continue researching and applying Quizizz to teaching After finishing the review lessons using Quizizz application, I required students to complete a test to assess the effect of new method on their learning improvement The test result for two classes are shown in the table below: 17 skkn Classification Excellent Good Average Weak Experimental class (10A6) The number 35 of students % Standard (10A5) 100 class The number 35 of students % 100 10 20 29% 57% 14% 0% 13 14 14% 37% 40% 9% Graph 4: Experimental test result CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS 3.1 Conclusions 3.1.1 The effectiveness of the “initiatives and experience” among different subjects Advantages: The Quizizz application is simple, easy to use, and compatible with many kinds of devices Besides, features help users create different kinds of lessons After applying Quizizz to teaching, in my opinion, Quizizz has some benefits: Teachers’ side: It helps teachers compose exercises for the lesson quickly and conveniently According to the test results of students on the Quizizz application, the teacher will value the level of students’ learning ability so they can provide more appropriate directions Moreover, using this app is considered as an appropriate approach when the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic in the world is still complicated, causing the ineffectiveness of traditional teaching methods The positive impact of using this application will motivate teachers to research and apply other tools to meet the requirements and educational objectives set by the Department of Education and Training Students’ side: This application can increase students' interest in learning and reviewing English lessons through involving in educational activities In addition, students can self-evaluate their acquisition level, from which they can build a process themselves to learn more effectively 18 skkn Disadvantages: For basic accounts, users can only use some simple features Therefore, if they want to insert audio files and clips into the lessons, they need to upgrade the accounts Spending too much time using computers, tablets or other electronic devices to complete exercises may have harmful effects on students' health 3.1.2 Solutions Users should design questions based on the features of the account and combine them with some other software to make lectures more effective Teachers should prepare carefully to ensure the lesson's focus Teachers can discuss with colleagues to produce more high-quality exercises Teachers and parents should remind students to use electronic devices for a reasonable amount of time to protect their health 3.1.3 Extensive implementation The lessons designed on Quizizz can be set up in public mode, which makes them easy to access As a result, teachers in many different regions can use these resources to improve the quality of teaching 3.2 Recommendations The teachers in the same department should work together to create a series of questions for teaching at schools The board of directors may consider upgrading to premium accounts for specialized teachers to complete specific missions GENERAL SUMMARY Although I have just applied this method this year in my classes, I have studied and analyzed it for two years Choosing the best method among many ones makes me confused However, the desire to find a new 19 skkn way to help students learn more effectively has encouraged me to study carefully and apply this method to my English classes I also received various responses from students and colleagues when applying this application to teaching But the students' enjoyment and the method's effectiveness make me more confident with my work Besides my efforts, I could not complete this study without support from my masters, friends, colleagues, and beloved students I truly appreciate everyone I hope to have a chance to receive more positive feedback to increase the research's quality I hope that the idea of using Quizizz in the classroom is suitable for other teachers This means that students have a chance to approach many new teaching methods, helping them absorb knowledge more effectively Confirmation of the head of Truong Thi high school Thanh Hoa, May 28th, 2022 I certify that this is my own work without coping from other writers Author Nguyen Thi Dieu Quy PREFERENCES 1.https://quizizz.com/admin/search/grade%2010?
