issues within various business disciplines.
Students can access local work
experience opportunities and get involved
in projects relevant to their business
discipline with organisations located in the
Greater Western Sydney region.
REcOGNITION
Our courses are developed in consultation
with leading industry practitioners and an
external advisory board to ensure you have
the skills you need to be competitive in
today’s workplace. For example, industry
feedback on the need for graduates to
be able to solve problems using a holistic
business perspective rather than a narrow
discipline approach has been utilised
in the design of the UWS Business and
Commerce degree.
A business program that gives students
a practical approach to learning while
improving skills and performance – that
is the vision of the academic community
at UWS.
‘We want our students to get involved
with businesses – to use their knowledge
to address real business issues. So we
developed units where students get to do
just that,’ says Dr Sara Denize, the Deputy
Dean, UWS School of Business.
We expect our graduates will finish their
degrees being ‘business-ready’ with not
only the practical knowledge and skills, but
also the experience of what it is like to work
within their discipline addressing real-world
problems and developing solutions.
Learn from academics with a high
international profile who are experts in their
fields, and gain accreditation from leading
Australian industry organisations. Take
advantage of international work experience
opportunities, and get involved in our
active research program.

academically throughout Year 12, and to
strive to achieve an ATAR in the 90s,’ she
says.
‘I was drawn to the Advanced Business
Leadership component of my Business
degree at UWS as it was an innovative
and unique program that I believed
would enhance my leadership skills in the
business environment.

Some of the wonderful opportunities
I have had include being sponsored
to attend the University Scholars
Leadership Symposium in Thailand in
August 2011.’
For new students, Laura says, ‘Think
about the career path that best suits your
individual strengths, and what personally
interests you.’
‘Don’t base your decision on what other
people think or other factors, such as
earning capacity, because you will never

It was the unique business degree
offered by UWS that convinced
Edward Popa to study at the
University.
‘The many opportunities, including
international travel funded by
the University, were particularly
attractive,’ he says. ‘The range of
scholarships made available was also
another big plus to coming to UWS.
Also, not spending hours on a train to
the city leaves me more time to study
and relax.
‘On top of an Academic Excellence
Scholarship, my membership in the
Future Leaders Aspire Program has
exposed me to a group of talented
people, many of whom I am now
close friends with. In future, the Aspire
program will provide the opportunity
for internships and employment within
the university.
‘UWS is a great place to learn and
grow. You will be rewarded for
your efforts in the HSC with the
knowledge that your ATAR is not
the sole determiner of what kind of
professional you will become. There
are countless pathways to university
and entry as a school leaver is just
one of them. Explore all your options
before deciding on a course.’
‘The range of scholarships
made available was also
another big plus to coming
to UWS.’
