VIET TRI UNIVERSITY OF INDUSTRY FACULTY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES SPEECH TRANSLATION COURSE BOOK (For students majoring in English Language) Compiled by: Nguyen Thi Nhung, M.A Dương Thi Hong Men, M.A Phu Tho, 2020 UNIT 3: ENVIRONMENT Part VIETNAMESE – ENGLISH SPEECH TRANSLATION PRACTICE 1.1 Môi trường vấn đề cấp bách Listen to the teacher reading each sentence and interpret into English Môi trường là khu vực tự nhiên xung quanh giúp người, động vật và những sinh vật sống khác lớn lên và phát triển một cách tự nhiên Môi trường là tất những yếu tố tự nhiên tồn ngoài ý chí chủ quan người và các yếu tớ nhân tạo Nó có những mới quan hệ mật thiết với nhau, ảnh hưởng đến sự tồn và phát triển người các sinh vật khác trái đất này Mơi trường là một không gian sống lý tưởng người và các loài sinh vật khác Đó là nơi cung cấp nguồn tài nguyên vô cần thiết cho hoạt động sống và sản xuất người, là nơi có thể giúp chứa đựng, trung hịa và phân hủy tất các chất phế thải người tạo cuộc sống, hoạt động sản xuất Mơi trường tự nhiên là nguồn tài nguyên thiên nhiên vô quý giá mang đến cho chúng ta sự đa dạng hoạt động sản xuất và đời sớng ngày Đó là những yếu tớ đất, nước, khơng khí, khoáng sản và những lượng ánh sáng, gió, Hoặc có thể là các sản phẩm công nghiệp, nông nghiệp, ngư nghiệp, văn hóa, du lịch, Trong c̣c sớng hàng ngày, người cần có mợt khoảng khơng gian định để phục vụ cho các hoạt động sống nhà ở, nơi nghỉ ngơi, nơi sản xuất… Như vậy, chức này địi hỏi mơi trường phải có phạm vi khơng gian vi mơ phù hợp với người Không gian này một lần nữa yêu cầu phải đáp ứng các tiêu chuẩn định các yếu tớ vật lý, hóa học, sinh học, cảnh quan và xã hội Môi trường chúng ta thay đổi cách chúng ta sống, lại, sản xuất và tiêu dùng hàng hóa phát triển Điều này bao gồm từ việc xây dựng nhà và sở hạ tầng giao thông mới đến các nhà máy xử lý chất thải và nước, và từ việc chuyển đổi công nghệ lượng và công nghiệp sang các hình thức nơng nghiệp chun sâu để đáp ứng nhu cầu xã hội Yêu cầu không gian sống người thay đổi theo trình đợ khoa học cơng nghệ Tuy nhiên, việc sử dụng không gian sống và quan hệ với giới tự nhiên, người cần chú ý đến hai tḥc tính: tính cư trú, tức là khả chịu đựng hệ sinh thái những điều kiện khó khăn và tính bền vững hệ sinh thái Các thành phần mơi trường cịn có vai trị bảo vệ c̣c sớng người và sinh vật khỏi những tác động từ bên ngoài như: tầng ozon khí qủn có nhiệm vụ hấp thụ và phản xạ ngược lại các tia cực tím từ lượng mặt trời Ơ nhiễm mơi trường là mợt vấn đề toàn cầu và gây những tác động nguy hiểm đối với người và tài nguyên thiên nhiên 10 Mục tiêu bảo vệ mơi trường là ngăn chặn sự xuống cấp môi trường tự nhiên, điều quan trọng đối với tất các sinh vật sớng Khơng khí và nước Ơ nhi ễm mơi trương mơ ̣tvấn đề tồn cầu gây nh ưng tác đợng nguy ́ng an toàn là tảng cho sứhiêc ̉mkhỏe chúng ta, và các yếu t ố tăng dân số, đốivơicon ngươivà tài nguyên thiên nhiên công nghệ và tiêu thụ quá mức có tác đợng tiêu c ực đến môi trường, khiến người và động vật gặp khơng ảnh hưởng 11 Tình trạng nhiễm môi trường ngày càng trở nên nghiêm trọng Dẫn đến nhiều hệ lụy việc biến đổi khí hậu, thời tiết cực đoan mưa axit, nước biển dâng cao hơn, sa mạc hóa, Và theo các nghiên cứu, trái đất chúng ta nóng lên ngày khiến băng hai cực tan nhanh 12 Sự nóng lên trái đất ảnh hưởng cực kỳ lớn đến môi trường sống người và sinh vật Trái Đất này Số bão diễn năm nhiều và nặng nề hơn, tầng ozon bị phá vỡ,…Bên cạnh đó, nguồn sớng bị tàn phá khiến cho nhiều loài sinh vật phải di cư, khơng kịp thích nghi với sự thay đổi đột ngột và dẫn đến tuyệt chủng 13 Không riêng các loài sinh vật, người bị đe dọa nghiêm trọng môi trường bị ô nhiễm Rất nhiều người mắc những bệnh tim, phổi, gan, phát triển kém, Vì vậy, việc chúng ta cần làm là bảo vệ mẹ thiên nhiên Gìn giữ khơng bị ảnh hưởng những tác động xấu 14 Môi trường là tổng hợp các yếu tớ vật chất tự nhiên vật lý, hóa học, sinh học tồn ngoài ý chí chủ quan người và các yếu tố nhân tạo bao gồm tổng thể quan hệ giữ người với người có quan hệ mật thiết với nhau, có ảnh hưởng đến sự tồn và phát triển người và sinh vật Môi trường là nơi cung cấp tài nguyên cần thiết cho cuộc sống và hoạt động sản xuất người Khi mơi trường bị nhiễm c̣c sớng người bị đe dọa 15 Ơ nhiễm khơng khí có thể gây hàng nghìn bệnh tật đến đường hơ hấp, Ơ nhiễm nước, thực phẩm dẫn đến hàng loạt các bệnh ung thư khả chữa trị Như vậy, nâng cao chất lượng sống, bảo vệ môi trường là điều không thể bỏ qua và vô cấp thiết đối với người, dân tợc và q́c gia Đó là trách nhiệm chung không riêng Bảo vệ môi trường là bảo vệ và các hệ sau 1.2 Bảo vệ môi trường gắn với phát triển kinh tế - xã hội Look at each of the following passage and interpret into English Trồng xanh nơi đất trống đồi trọc, nơi đầu nguồn để chớng xói mịn, sạt lở đất và trồng xanh xung quanh nơi để điều hịa khơng khí, cân hệ sinh thái Cây xanh điều hoà khơng khí, cung cấp mơi trường sớng Ở phạm vi nhỏ là ý thức bảo vệ xanh nơi công cợng, trồng quanh nhà để lấy bóng mát, trồng các loại cảnh nhà hay rau sạch… vậy giúp bạn có khơng khí lành và giải trí sau ngày làm việc căng thẳng Hãy sử dụng các nguồn lượng có thể tái tạo nào có thể lượng từ gió, ánh nắng mặt trời… Đây là các loại lượng việc sản xuất và tiêu thụ chúng khơng làm phát sinh khí thải gây hiệu ứng nhà kính nhiệt điện, và khơng ảnh hưởng mơi trường sinh thái thuỷ điện và lượng nguyên tử Sử dụng phương tiện giao thông chạy điện lượng mặt trời, … để giảm khí thải CO2 gây nhiễm khơng khí và nhiều biện pháp, việc làm nhỏ, đơn giản, dễ thực mang lại hiệu cao khác nữa … Tiến hành phân loại rác nhà, tái sử dụng những loại chai nhựa, giấy và túi nilon Ưu tiên sử dụng các sản vật sản xuất địa phương, vậy giảm sự vận chuyển là một những nguyên nhân làm tiêu hao lượng và tăng lượng thải các loại khí đợc hại Thử nghĩ xem, phải sử dụng các loại trái ướp lạnh từ cách xa hàng ngàn kilômet mang đến xung quanh ta tràn ngập các loại trái nhiệt đới thơm ngon, bổ dưỡng Luôn có ý thức bảo vệ mơi trường Các hoạt đợng mơi trường xanh, giờ Trái Đất có tác dụng nâng cao nhận thức người Nếu từ nhỏ trẻ dạy các bài học lịng u thiên nhiên và q hương trẻ có ý thức với mơi trường Part ENGLISH - VIETNAMESE SPEECH TRANSLATION PRACTICE 2.1 Importance of Environmental Protection Look at each of the following passage and interpret into Vietnamese An Environment is everything that is around us, which includes both living and nonliving things such as soil, water, animals and plants, which adapt themselves to their surroundings It is nature’s gift that helps in nourishing life on the earth The environment plays an important role in the existence of life on the planet earth The word Environment is derived from the French word “Environ” which meaning “surrounding.” An ecosystem refers to all the living and the non-living things present in the environment and it is a foundation of the Biosphere, which determines the health of the entire planet earth Ecology and Environmental science are the branches of life science, which mainly deal with the study of organisms and their interactions among organisms and their environment Our environment is what houses and helps our ecosystem grow Without protecting our environment animals, crops, and we all are in danger Environment plays an important role in healthy living and the existence of life on planet earth Earth is a home for different living species and we all are dependent on the environment for food, air, water, and other needs Therefore, it is important for every individual to save and protect our environment One of the important aspects of living a long healthy life is to protect our environment from the harmful gases, chemicals, and wastes that we use every day If our environment is not protected then there would not exist forests which include trees that provide us with the basic means to survive such as oxygen to breathe, timber, wood, oils, and many other products With the advancement of technologies and the development of industries, various water-borne and other diseases were prevented However, it adversely affects the environment by using harmful gases, chemicals, and building wastes The trade and commerce, industries, and other factories paved the way for humans to leave the agricultural field and step into the technological world 10 The air, water, and soil pollution is affecting the environment, and it is damaging rapidly Harmful greenhouse gases are causing the greenhouse effect The protective ozone layer is depleting, causing the sun’s direct ultra-violet rays to enter the Earth and cause the snow to melt and produce serious skin diseases infections among animals and humans 11 Every day we see a rise in the earth’s temperature This is because we abuse the environment instead of protecting it We, humans, have created a major amount of atmospheric Carbon Dioxide which has a major effect on climate change 12 The Environment also benefits the Economy A healthy Environment promotes more nature-based tourism 13 Pollution prevention reduces both financial costs (waste management and cleanup) and environmental costs (health problems and environmental damage) Pollution prevention protects the environment by conserving and protecting natural resources while strengthening economic growth through more efficient production in industry and less need for households, businesses and communities to handle waste 14 Cases of Asthma and Bronchitis would decrease if we protect our Environment and provide one another a healthy environment to breathe in Specific pollution prevention approaches Pollution prevention approaches can be applied to all potential and actual pollution-generating activities, including those found in the energy, agriculture, federal, consumer and industrial sectors Prevention practices are essential for preserving wetlands, groundwater sources and other critical ecosystems – areas in which we especially want to stop pollution before it begins 15 16 Buy a Water Bottle We use so much plastic from buying bottled water instead of reusing old ones when we could be carrying a more permanent solution If you forget your bottle, your uni should have a water cooler (which stocks recyclable cups, we hope) 17 Turn Off Your Phone Do you need to check your Instagram when you’re falling asleep in your 5th lecture of the day? Do you want notifications from the Student Beans app at am? - If you know you won’t be needing your phone for the foreseeable future, turn it off - You won’t be scrambling around like the world’s about to end as you hit 1%, and you’ll be saving energy 18 Recycle It can be difficult to recycle, especially if you’re living in the herd-like environment of shared living Other people might not be passionate about the planet, so you might have to take on more responsibility 19 Avoid Public Transport When Possible We get it, it rains a lot in the UK and it’s cold But if you want to protect the environment, get your raincoat and mittens out and brave the storm Plus, you’ll be burning off all those Aldi value pot noodles you devoured the night before 20 Save Water Protecting the planet means saving water – only 0.03% of the 70% of water available to us is freshwater -There are plenty of ways you can save water in your student digs, like taking shorter showers, avoiding small clothes washes, and turn all your taps off 21 Save Electricity Sources of electricity such as coal are depleting, so it’s important to be mindful of electricity use and make adaptations so we can preserve sources while we find sustainable alternatives Methods of saving electricity are quite simple: don’t use unnecessary lights, unplug used electronics and try to limit the use of your washing machine 22 Buy Sustainable Foods -As humans started to get clever, we experimented with man-made chemicals and new methods of transport Unfortunately, chemicals damage farmland and lengthy transport routes pollute the air 23 Decrease Meat & Dairy Consumption - If the world is to avoid drastic climate change, meat-eating in the west has to decrease by 90% alone - We consume a vast amount of livestock in our diets and the methane released into the atmosphere and deforestation required to house animals like cows and chickens are damaging the environment - Unsustainable dairy farming leads to the destruction of ecologically important areas such as wetlands and forests 24 Buy Reusable Bags -The plastic bag charge in the UK has had a positive effect on the environment, with plastic bag sales down 90% in the previous year and the amount of plastic bags on Britain’s seabeds dropping 30% - To see this number drop even further, you can buy reusable bags – they’re generally stronger than plastic bags anyway so they last longer 25 Pick Up Rubbish -Ugh! You must be crazy!
