WRITING 2/ TIẾNG ANH B1 Read the following extract from a magazine In many western countries there is an increasing number of couples choosing to have no children Now, write an essay to an educated reader about the pros and cons to couples having no children Include reasons and any relevant examples to support your answer In recent years, there are a lot of couples from many Western countries who refuse to give birth This social trend may have the advantages for them, but the negative effect outweights it completely Couples who decide to delay parenthood can save their living costs The cost of essential spending such as drinks, clothes and foods will be reduced Moreover, the labour market is extremely competitive and it is common that young people nowadays choose to contribute their youth to their work for their future career In addition, some people choose to have children when they are old This seems resonable as old are believed to have more experience in bringing up kids and they are also wealthy enough to take the whole responsibility to raise chldren On the other side hand, the benefits are foreseenable, the meaning of the family is anything but empty On special occasions like Chiristmas Day New Year Eve or summer holidays, it would be joyful to play with your kids and having fun with them or just having dinner together around the campfire and singing Besides, if parents choose to have kids when they are older especially when the woman are over 35 years old, the risk of it is high due to the aging health As a result, babies may suffer down syndrome or even premature death To conclude, there are many reasons why people nowadays prefer to have no kids or willing to raise kids when they are older and this trend may negative effects to the family life Nowadays, in my opinion, there are two opposing sides of why couples are increasingly choosing not to have children These two advantages and disavantages of this issue will be discussed in the essay below Firstly, a great number of young people are discovering themselves that they have more free time for self – care and for other relationships Without being busy raising a family, they can also invest time and energy meeting their own caretaking needs It’s also great to have the ability to carve out time to write letters, make phone calls, or meet with friends socially, especially if they only travel with their spouse They also save significantly on childcare costs Another advantage is about their career promotion, more employment chances and higher positions are usually available to them since they they are worry-free and always ready to work hard However, besides those benefits, it also has a bad side The first is that not having children will cause the couple’s relationshipa to crack easily and lose happiness The second is to make yourself more selfish and only know how to live for yourself, not regarding to other surrounding people
