Group 4: An Thanh Secondary School & Thoi Thanh Secondary School TEACHING PLAN UNIT 9: FESTIVAL AROUND THE WORLD Lesson 4: COMMUNICATION Timing: period (45 minutes) I Objectives Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, it can: - help Ss use everyday English expressing disappointment and talking about fesstival’s symbols and meaning - develop their listening skills about festival symbol(s) and meaning Competence Students can use everyday English expressing disappointment and talk about festival’s symbol(s) and meaning Attitude Students can build their confidence to use every day English II Teaching aids (& materials) Student book TA 7, ppt file, pictures ,cd… III Procedure Activity 1: Warm-up (5 minutes) Goal Input Outcome The activity aims at: - arousing students’ interests in the topic - activating students background knowledge about the topic ‘Board race’ Change into “Yes/ No questions” Lan can swim I go to school everyday My mother cooked meal last night I was busy yesterday Nam will be free tomorrow Expected answers: Can Lan swim? Do you go to school everyday? Did your mother cook meal last night? Were you busy yesterday? Will Nam be free tommorow? Procedure Now I’d like you to work in groups of 6, and then come to the board and change the sentences into Y/N questions Activity 2: Expressing disappointment (10 minutes) Goal Input The activity aims at introducing how to express disappointment and help Ss practice making a similar conversation for each situation below Outcome Procedure Expected answer : sts make well - Ask Ss to listen and read the consversation Pay attention to the highlighted sentences After that, work in group of and make a similar conversation for each situation - Present the conversation to the class - Call on some groups to practice in front of the class Check and correct if needed Activity : Festival symbols : Listen to Mark talking about festival symbols ( 10 minutes) Goal Input The activity aims at helping ss listen to Mark talking about festival symbols Outcome Suggested answer:… Procedure -Ask Ss to listen to Mark talk about festival symbols and fill in the blanks - Run through -Have Ss work in pairs Ask them to compair the answers with each other -Check Ss’ answers Activity : Match each festival with each symbol and meaning (10 minutes) Goal Input The activity aims at helping ss recognize each festival through its description and symbol Outcome Expected answers: C -b A-a D - d B-a -Have Ss work in pairs Ask them match each festival with its symbol and Procedur meaning e -Check Ss’ answers as a class -Give some more interesting facts about festival’s symbols Activity 5: Choose a festival and talk about its symbol(s) and meaning (7 minutes) Goal The activity aims at helping Ss improve their speaking skill Input Work in groups Choose a festival and talk about its symbol(s) and meaning Outcome Procedure Expected answer: Ss present well -Ask ss to work in groups of and choose a festival and talk about its symbol(s) and meaning -Give example -Check Ss’ answers as a class -Give feedback Wrap-up: (3 minutes) -Have Ss say what they have learnt in the lesson - Prepare Skills
