Academic Year 2014-2015 Number HIGH SCHOOL Maths, Computing and Arts Specialist School www.farlingaye.suffolk.sch.uk mail@farlingaye.suffolk.sch.uk 12th September 2014 EXAMINATION RESULTS SPECIAL 2014 Farlingaye High School Foundation AGM (with wine, nibbles and useful workshops for parents!) 7.00pm Thursday 18th September 2014 EXAM RESULT SPECIAL FORUM I AM absolutely delighted to report that we had yet another excellent summer with some of our best ever results at both GCSE and A level We were “83% of grades were also delighted with the success of our at A* to C - our students at AS level and the Year 10 GCSE second best ever and Statistics The national papers once again listed us as a highly performing school and much higher than the national average.” we were the highest listed school in the county Our A level results were fantastic and confirmed our position as one of the most consistently top performing schools in the county 31% of grades were at grade A*/A and 83% of the grades were A* to C - our second best ever and much higher than the national average 66 students achieved at least 2A grades and a quarter achieved an A* Our average total point score per student at 995 and average score per subject at 229 are extremely high and significantly above national averages There were many superb individual performances Particular credit goes to Lawrence Beaumont, Emily Ley and Sam Moody who all achieved at least three A* grades As well as those gaining very high grades, we were equally pleased with the excellent performances from less able students who, whilst maybe not getting A and A* grades, exceeded their target grades and achieved the excellent individual results needed to secure Higher Education places Many students this year were offered places by their first choice institution Huge congratulations are due to all students for doing so well A list of results and Higher Education destinations for all our Sixth Form students is shown on pages 4-8 The celebration of success was repeated a week later with the arrival of superb GCSE results Again, these were the second best we’ve achieved I know that all parents of Year 11 students would agree that a great deal of effort had been put in by both the students and staff in preparing for “The celebration the examinations An excellent 69% achieved of success was 5A* - C including English and Maths In a year repeated a week when other schools dropped significantly we were thrilled that our figure was just 0.5% later with the arrival of superb below last year’s, our best results GCSE results.” EXAM RESULT SPECIAL FORUM We were particularly thrilled with performances at the top end, with 28% of grades at A/A* We were very pleased that the Maths results were the best in the county It was equally pleasing to see many less able students, who had worked incredibly hard, to secure the grades needed for post-16 courses “There were many superb individual performances, with a quarter achieving 5A/A* grades and a fantastic 13% achieving 10A/A8 grades” The Year 12s taking AS exams appear to have done well and successfully handled the enormous pressure put on them to spend yet another summer taking exams, especially as they had not been able to take modules in January We don’t put the results of these in this Forum as many of the students will take them on to A2 and many retake papers Congratulations as well to Year 10 - many of whom did very well in their Statistics GCSE At the school we work incredibly hard to support our exam students and it’s great to see all their hard work pay off This year we ran monitoring and mentoring schemes in both Year 12 and Year 13, as well as one-year focused achievement groups 260 students participated in the six study residentials that we ran In addition, we held revision days, coursework evenings, special classes and exam revision clubs for Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 Many of these were held in the holidays, at weekends and until late in the evening and I’m really grateful to all the staff for giving up so much time to help our students There were breakfast sessions on the morning of exams and also a lot of one -to-one teaching, cajoling and encouraging in all four exam year groups! I’d also like to thank all our parents for all you to support and encourage all our students We wish all our students well with their studies as they progress to their next level Sue Hargadon Headteacher EXAM RESULT SPECIAL FORUM A Level Results An excellent year with a pass rate of 99.6% 63% of grades were at A*/A and B level (excluding AS) We were delighted that 31% of our grades were A/A* 66% of students achieved at least two A grades We had an excellent average point score of 995 Our average exam point score per entry was very high at 228 as was the average total score of 995 Special congratulations to Lawrence Beaumont, Emily Ley and Sam Moody who all achieved three A* The Telegraph and The Times placed us especially highly in their top schools based on A*-B grades Following the request of some students, we have just listed those who have got at least ABB - though I think all students should be very proud of their achievements!
