applicable to college only) CAROL H BARNES VOLNER SCHOLARSHIP What: Carol H Barnes Volner Scholarship Who: Graduating senior continuing his/her education at a college or university Criteria: Plans to pursue a career in education Good academic achievement-GPA of 2.75 or higher Financial need may be considered Demonstrated a strong work ethic Demonstrated an interest in community service Amount of Award: $500 (renewable) Restrictions: Scholarship funds are to be used to help defray costs of tuition supplies, living, or other college-related experiences Renewable at the start of each school year Citizen Scholar Scholarship Who: Graduating senior who is (or whose parent or guardian is) a member of Clark Energy Cooperative, and who will attend college or vocational school Criteria: Minimum 2.50 GPA 45% Essay – 30% school and/or community involvement, and 25% GPA Application Deadline: March 27 by 4:00PM Notification: Student will be recognized on Seniors Night but scholarship money will be sent directly to college upon notification by award winner Award: $1000 one-time award *This is a separate application and is available in guidance office or online at www.clarkenergy.com under “My Community” COMMUNITY TRUST BANK’S SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY CONTEST What: A scholarship winner will be chosen from each participating high school The scholarship will be payable to the college or technical school of your choice Who: All graduating seniors are eligible to enter this essay contest Rules: Essay Topic: What My Community Means to Me Essay must be the original work of the entrant Must be at least two pages in length, and no more than three pages Essay must be typed double-spaced or neatly handwritten Must be on ½ x 11 inch paper The official entry form must be attached Immediate family members of Community Trust Bank employees are not eligible Essays will be judged 75% on content, and 25% on grammar, spelling, and punctuation Amount of Award: $500 award Number of Awards: One Application Deadline: Must be turned in to guidance office by April 17th Awards Presentation: Student will be recognized on Senior Honors’ Night but scholarship money will be sent directly to college upon proof of enrollment DR RICHARD HENRY DDS SCHOLARSHIP What: Dr Richard Henry DDS Scholarship Sponsored by Dr Richard Henry 10 MONTGOMERY COUNTY FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP (CONTINUED) The applicant must have an overall scholarship standing of at least a “C+” (2.50 GPA) for the four years of high school The applicant must have exhibited leadership skills in school and community Applications must be received by the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Office no later than March 27th of the current year The applicant must enroll in an accredited college or university or a postsecondary vocational training program no later than the fall term immediately following high school graduation, or the scholarship will be forfeited (In case of hardship, the recipient may appeal to the scholarship committee for an extension.) $500 will be mailed directly to the recipient upon receipt of proof of enrollment A copy of paid tuition statement from the college, university, or vocational school must be received by the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Treasurer, who may then issue the check The scholarship money will be equally divided between college semesters, or other similar school divisions Recipients must maintain a “C” (2.00 GPA) average in college, or satisfactory performance in vocational training Unacceptable performance or dropping out of school, except for serious illness or injury, will cause the scholarship to be forfeited 10 Recipients will be eligible to apply for annual contributions of this scholarship as long as they meet eligibility requirements (not to exceed two consecutive years, or $2000) An application for continuance can be obtained from the Montgomery County Farm Scholarship chairperson no later than June 30th of each year 11 After completion of one year following: School of Human Environmental Sciences Dietetics Human Nutrition Family Sciences Retailing and Tourism Management Hospitality Management and Tourism Agriculture/Natural Resources 4-H Youth Development FFA B) Recipient should have strong academic standing C) Recipient should exhibit strong leadership qualities D) Recipient should have a financial need for the scholarship • NOMINATED BY: Family & Consumer Science Teacher, Vo-AG Teacher, or Guidance Counselor • SELECTED BY: The County Officers of the Montgomery County Homemakers Association • AMOUNT OF AWARD: $500.00 (to be given $250 Notification Letter from the Montgomery County Homemakers Association will be presented to the Recipient at the Annual Montgomery County High School Seniors Honors Night by a Homemaker Representative It is the recipient’s responsibility to notify the Montgomery 27 County Extension Office at 859-498-8741 at the beginning of each semester to receive their ½ Scholarships ($250); verifying satisfactory grades and plans of continuing into the second semester The county homemaker treasurer will then be notified to mail the scholarship check to the recipient’s college MT STERLING KIWANIS SCHOLARSHIP What: Mt Sterling Kiwanis Scholarship Award Who: To either a graduating senior or a graduate of Montgomery County High School who will enroll in college Criteria: Either a graduating senior, or graduate of Montgomery County High School who is currently enrolled in a college or university Recipient must be a person of upstanding quality that has done well in High School Student must demonstrate financial need Nominated by: Mt Sterling Kiwanis club and the Montgomery County High School Key Club Amount of Award: $2000 scholarship (renewable up to one additional year) Number of Awards: Three Nomination Deadline: April 17th Selection Date: Before Senior Honors Night 28 Notification: Scholarship money will be awarded upon proof of enrollment and mailed to the Association Scholarship This scholarship was established by the MCMA to promote the pursuit of a college education among low-income families The scholarship is to benefit first year part time and/or full time college students through the aided purchase of textbooks and supplies The MCMA believes a quality education serves to strengthen Christian faith and character Who: One graduating senior Criteria: Applicants must be nominated by a pastor serving in Montgomery County MCMA Scholarships are designed for an individual who plans to attend his or her first year of college Applicants will be judged on scholastics, community service, church involvement, and financial need Preference will be given to applicants who have been unable to receive other scholarships To receive the spring semester’s stipend, the recipient must maintain a 2.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale Selected by: A sub-committee of the MCMA will select the yearly recipient Amount of Award: MCMA Scholarships will pay up to achievements Positive attitudes Financial need will be considered Nominated by: Student application to the guidance office Selected by: Rotary Club Scholarship Committee 31 Amount of Award: Two – one time $500 scholarship paid by the treasurer upon notification from the committee chairperson Recipient will be a guest at one Rotary Club meeting and share career goals Number of Awards: Two high a club representative on Senior Honors Night in May NATALIE CALVERT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP What: Natalie Calvert Memorial Scholarship Who: A graduating Montgomery Co High School senior who has experienced the loss of a parent to suicide, drug overdose or incarceration Criteria: Plans to pursue a college degree Demonstrate a need for financial assistance Good Academic Achievement-GPA of 2.75 or higher Must complete an application and write an essay demonstrating the struggle they have experienced with the loss of a parent and hardships and how they hope to better themselves 32 Selection Committee: Members of the family and school representative Nominated by: Self; through the Community Scholarship Application Amount of Award: To be determined (non-renewable) Award may be used for the tuition, books, supplies, as determined by the recipient SHEILA HUFF BAKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP WHAT: Sheila Huff Baker Memorial Scholarship WHO: Graduating senior pursuing a post-secondary education or technical career degree CRITERIA: Recipient must have earned a minimum of 3.00 GPA Recipient must attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student or a technical career school Recipient must have demonstrated a positive attitude toward school, learning and personal growth and accomplishment Recipient must have attended Montgomery County High School for four years of high school Recipient must submit a one page essay on how this scholarship will help in attainment of his/her educational goals Recipient will be judged on scholastics, community service, church involvement, and financial need Suggested judging guidelines include the following:  10% - ACT or SAT composite scores (sponsors may request copy of student transcript) 33     15% Cumulative GPA 15% Strength of applicant’s curriculum 20% Community, church and county extension involvement 40% Financial need SPONSORED BY: The Sheila Huff Baker Memorial Scholarship RESTRICTIONS: Scholarship is
