Office of Residential Student Services April 2021 Newsletter Community Connection Springtime is finally here! There are so many small habits that we can to live a more sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle With Earth Day coming up on April 22nd, let's consider how we can reduce our carbon footprint! Reduce, reuse, and recycle Cut down on what you throw away Follow the three "R's" to conserve natural resources and landfill space Volunteer Volunteer for cleanups in your community Educate When you further your own education, you can help others understand the importance and value of our natural resources Conserve water The less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually end up in the ocean Shop wisely Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag Use long-lasting light bulbs Energy-efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions Flip the light switch off when you leave the room as well! Bike more Drive less SOURCE: oceanservice.noaa.gov Office of Residential Student Services I April 2021 Newsletter Stress Management Tips for Managing and Reducing Stress Exercise: Physical activity can help improve your sleep 01 And better sleep means better stress management Exercise may also improve your mood, allowing you to feel less anxious and more positive about yourself Diet: A healthy diet can lessen the effects of stress, build 02 up your immune system, level your mood, and lower your blood pressure Breathing Exercises: Your breath is a powerful tool to 03 ease stress and make you feel less anxious Some simple breathing exercises can make a big difference if you make them part of your regular routine 04 Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy involves using extracts from plants called essential oils, by either breathing them through your nose or putting them on your skin Among many benefits, aromatherapy eases stress, anxiety, and depression boosts feelings of relaxation, and improves sleep W W W W E B M D C O M / B A L A N C E / S T R E S S M A N A G E M E N T / S T R E S S - M A N A G E M E N T Office of Residential Student Services I April 2021 Newsletter Stress Management Stress Reduction Checklist Set priorities Focus on what’s important Let the other stuff go Identify tasks that you can share or delegate, then ask for help Get organized Disorganization can make things confusing and hard to remember Set short-term goals you can reach Reward yourself for meeting them! Say no (gracefully) to taking on more obligations Focus on the positive Choose to look for the good in others and yourself Laugh! Jade Reynoso Freshman Hall Freshman Residence Hall’s Star Resident is Jade Reynoso They are a freshman majoring in Forensic Psychology Jade is originally from Old Bridge, New Jersey One of Jade's goals is for everyone to be happy! Currently, they are interested in cosmetology, as she loves to makeup and style people's hair Office of Residential Student Services I April 2021 Newsletter Resident Lisandra Zorilla Burch Hall Burch Hall's Star Resident is Lisandra Zorilla Lasandra is from Paterson, New Jersey, and is currently studying Sociology Lisandra aims to graduate in Spring of 2021! In their downtime, they love helping their community In the future, Lisandra hopes to open up their own rehab center! Tamia Brown Sozio Hall Sozio Hall’s Star Resident is Tamia Brown Tamia is a sophomore, originally from Newark, New Jersey They are majoring in Criminal Justice and have an interest in skating and painting Tamia's goals include her graduating and getting into her number one choice for law school, Seton Hall Office of Residential Student Services I April 2021 Newsletter Resident Jess Kimberlin Upper Hall Upper Residence Hall’s Star Resident is Jess Kimberline Jess is currently a junior and is a Theatre major They are from Monroe, New Jersey and besides theatre, they love Marvel, Disney, and Harry Potter! One goal that is set for Jess is to move to a big city specifically LA or NYC, to what they love! You could be next in the Spotlight!
